Chapter 36

The whole palace became busier because of searching for Jules who has not been found until now. Damon also got busier. He made the palace guards focus on our surroundings. Every village was also more prepared because of the impending danger that Jules was carrying.

Britney's coming to the palace was also temporarily stopped because Damon was careful about those who came in and out of the palace. So now the only ones in the palace are the guards, elders, councils, and others who have duties in the palace.

While Anna and a guard stayed by my side while I tried to distract myself through reading. I am now here in the library and in front of me is the mountain of books that Anna gave me to read. I was bored earlier, and I couldn't do anything. That's why I thought of reading books even though I knew I would only get more bored with this.

I looked at Anna who was also reading a book and the guard who was with us remained standing behind the door. I hardly saw him move there. Maybe he is used to standing like that.

My eyes returned to the book I was reading and remembered what had happened. Jules is the mastermind of the death of Alpha Devon and Neticia. Now that it's clear, Damon won't let it go and I know he'll do his best to catch Jules. But one question kept gnawing at my mind.

If Jules killed Alpha Devon, then who killed Damon's parents? Who hurts Anna? They once accused the Rema Kingdom, but it was proven that they had nothing to do with what happened. If so, who? And one more thing…Jules says there's a traitor in the palace, someone close to Damon.

Who it is?

Even if I try to think, I can't because I don't want to think badly of the people close to Damon. I don't want my brain to get tainted when it comes to them. And I know Damon felt the same way. He may be struggling more now. His actions will be more sparing because of the thought that the traitor might have the people around him.

When lunch came, I ordered Anna to get my food so that I could eat lunch at the library. While I was sitting alone in the library, I couldn't help but look at it. Then, I remembered that book I saw before. A book that Alpha Devon is the author of. I stood up and tried to find that book.

That book was mysterious. Its design is also different from other books in the library. I tried to think about where I put it. Where did I put that book? I remembered that I just put it in a corner because Damon suddenly entered that time.

I took down the books that were blocking a corner. The books are so heavy, so I sweat a bit. But while looking for a book I noticed something strange on a shelf. I frowned when I saw that something was engraved on it.

“DTS8910?” I was confused by what I read. Those strange letters and numbers are engraved on the wall of the shelf. With the engraving of those letters and numbers here on this shelf, it looks like it was speeded up and really sharp things were used to carve there. What does this mean? Or maybe I'm just an overthinker who also thinks there's a hidden meaning to it?

"Luna?" I stiffened when I heard Anna's voice. I quickly covered the books I took down with a cloth so that it wouldn't be obvious that I rummaged through the books, so I went out to see Anna.

"What are you doing there, Luna?" she asked, confused. I just smiled at her and came closer. "Nothing. Let's go somewhere? I'm getting bored here," I convinced her and walked past her. She nodded and followed me. I know what I'm doing is wrong. I don't trust Anna but it's better this way. I have to be careful. This time I have no one to trust but Damon.

Anna accompanied me to the kitchen because I thought of learning to cook. The cooks there immediately helped me, but my mind couldn't help but fly. Those numbers and letters are like a code. A code of what? And who did it? What does it want to convey?

And one more thing, I can't find the book I'm looking for. I need to find it. I need to see it. I don't know why but something is urging me to find that book. I feel like something is in there.

We cooked well and in the end Damon and I had dinner quietly that night. Damon's silence at my side is usual. If you look at it, it doesn't seem like a problem, but I already know Damon. I know he is deep in thought.

After we finished dinner, Damon informed me that he was going to get something from his office, so I would go to our room first. I also ordered Anna to rest. I took a half shower and changed into my comfortable nighties. This is it. This is the time to go to the library and find that book that no one knows about. I just have to make sure that I can get back to the room before Damon so that he doesn't notice.

I carefully opened the bedroom door and saw only one guard guarding our room. Perhaps one left temporarily.

"Excuse me?" I called the guard. He quickly faced me and bowed out of respect for me.

"Is there anything you need, Luna?" he asked. I smiled.

"The water in our fridge here is out of stock. Can you… get me some, please?” I asked. I saw the guard's hesitation but, in the end, he nodded.

"Yes, Luna." He said and left. I watched him walk away before I snuck out. I was checking each corridor before I went out and walked. I will be responsible if I get caught here. Especially if Damon caught me!

I swallowed hard when I saw groups of guards in a corridor. I hid in a corner and almost prayed to all the saints for Damon not to catch me! Shit! This is so wrong!

"We should guard the entrance. It was ordered by the Alpha,” one of them said before they walked toward the first floor. I took a deep breath and made sure they were all gone before coming out of hiding. I was in front of a door when I suddenly saw Damon with Stone walking in my direction!

I was so nervous and afraid that I didn't think anymore and entered a door. I don't know what room this is, but I don't want to make Damon see me! I'm sure he'll have a lot of questions when he sees me here!

I quickly closed the door and locked it. I put my ear to the door to listen to what the two might be talking about.

"I am sure they will move as far as they want now. They won't rush because they know I'm looking for them,” I heard Damon say.

"You're right Alpha and our men are trying their best to find them," Stone said.

"But...we cannot let our guards down, Stone. Jules…creates his own pack…the rogues,” Damon said. I swallowed hard. Then...Jules is really dangerous right now. He will do everything just to get what he wants and that's revenge.

"But what if... Jules does what he threatened you with? He threatened you…that he will kill…the Luna,” I was stunned by what Stone said. Jules...threatened...Damon that he will kill me?

"I won't let him..." Damon sounded serious. I bit my lower lip.

"He wanted revenge. He wants you to feel the same feelings he had when Neticia was killed," Stone added.

"You know the truth about Neticia...Stone. The more Jules wanted darkness the more I want to hide the truth from him…” Damon said meaningfully. My lips twitched at what I heard. Truth? What truth? What does he mean by that?

"I know, Alpha..." Stone agreed. It seems like Stone knows the truth Damon was talking about.

I never heard their voices again. I was stunned for a few moments, trying to process what Damon and Stone said. What truth is Damon telling? What is it? Why...he doesn't tell me?

I took a deep breath and slowly realized that I was inside a room. I quickly looked inside to find out what kind of room I had entered and just like that my jaw dropped when I saw a large portrait of a woman on a clean white wall.

Curly brown hair, fair skin, a beautiful woman with a joyful smile. My lips parted as I approached it and as I finally got closer the name engraved at the bottom of the portrait became clearer.

With a trembling voice, I read it. "N-Neticia..."
