Chapter 5 - The Burn Mark
LUNA ASTERBELLE’s POV
It may sound weird for others to hear, but I really seem to be hopeless even though I know that I had a wolf living inside my body. The only problem that I can’t comprehend now is the fact that I also contain the blood of a vampire. A creature that I never wanted to become no matter what the circumstances were. Everything was still processing inside my mind and I refuse to believe that this is how things would end up.
“I have to figure a way out of this mess. I’m sure that my parents don’t really mean that neither of them wanted to see me in their territories any longer,” I mumbled to myself, in an attempt to lift myself up and motivate my spirits even though I am completely running out of reasons why I should still remain positive with all of the hate that I have been receiving. “They probably regret throwing me out of their packhouse,” I added before I heaved out a deep, long, and exhausting sigh.
As I was trying to come up with a plan on how I should explain what happened earlier on what was supposed to be my first ever transformation as a werewolf, I didn’t notice that my feet were walking on its own, heading back to where I rightfully belong.
“Mr. Asterbelle? Mrs. Asterbelle?” I called out to my parents, unsure whether they could hear me outside. “I’m back home… I’m sorry for what occurred at my party venue, I’ll make it up to both of you.” Continuous useless words came out of my mouth, knowing that it wouldn’t even have any sort of effect on the brains of my parents.
In less than a few minutes, someone from the house marched in front of me. “Lady Luna. Your Highness is waiting for you upstairs. Please head over to your room once you’re done changing your clothes,” the butler informed me while he was holding onto his own hands in front of his chest.
As I walked past him, I caught a glimpse of how quick his shoulders were moving. It made me wonder if he ran all the way from the mansion, down to the gates of our territory just to tell me that.
“Mr. Asterbelle? I’m here.”
“Come in, the door’s unlocked,” he replied.
“I heard that there’s something that you would like to discuss with me,” I formally said as I sat on the vacant seat.
Mr. Asterbelle nodded his head once before facing me. He placed both of his hands on the opposite sides of the chair, trapping me within his reach. “Who did you get intimate with? Be honest with me while I’m still being nice to you,” he said in such a serious manner. Even his eyes that used to be sparkling with love before have now gone cold like the winter season that’s approaching.
I have high respect for both of them and I know that they’re the same even though I am fully aware that I am not their biological daughter. “I’m sorry, Mr. Asterbelle, but I think that you’re crossing the line of my privacy,” I muttered. Although it was faint, I heard how his teeth were crashing upon one another, hinting that he didn’t like how I responded. “I haven’t been in touch with any man and be it the other way around. You know pretty well how much I hate anyone who touches even a little grasp of my skin,” I added to try and convince the hell out of my father.
His cold stare slowly turned back to normal as he stepped back. “We only adopted you years ago, which is why I can’t also be so sure that there’s really no one among the kids in the orphanage who hasn’t laid a finger on you yet,” Mr. Asterbelle reasoned out why he was being like that. “I’m just worried for my lovely Luna, it would be quite difficult for you since there’s no one among our pack who contains the blood of a vampire just as much as you do. You’re going to be the only one who would end up suffering and not me, and absolutely not your mother.” He rolled his eyes and he stopped when he noticed that there’s something on the ceiling.
With a single snap of his finger, a camera fell out from the ceiling. “S-someone’s spying on us? Could it be the opposite pack?” I asked, gasping for several breaths. “D-don’t tell me that you were the one who purposely placed one there?” I panicked, knowing that he would be able to fabricate the content of the captured video.
Mr. Asterbelle’s silence made me even more curious.
“Speaking of which, I suddenly remembered that there’s this mark on your forearm…” I initiated the conversation after an hour of silence between us. “You told me that it was only due to an accident, but I don’t believe that kind of lie. It just seems to be impossible no matter how hard I try to think about it.”
“Luna, how many times are we supposed to remind you that you shouldn’t pry any deeper than what you already know?”
I scoffed. “You’re trying to captivate the truth about that mark, aren’t you?” I slightly winced my eyes with a brow raised.
Without any sign or any warning, he suddenly came rushing towards where I was seated and landed a blow on my face. There wasn’t any clue that he hesitated, he must have been wanting to hit me for a long time.
Of course, anyone would come to think that way if their precious secret was about to get exposed. “Could it be…”
I no longer continued what I wanted to say and just kept it to myself. I made sure that he wouldn’t be able to use his mind link with me so that he wouldn’t know what I really had to ask him.
“This burn mark stored a lot of painful memories that I refuse to remember. If you would keep on asking me about the same thing over and over again. It would be much better for the both of us if you would just keep your mouth shut, Luna.” Mr. Asterbelle placed his hand on his forearm and slowly caressed it. “If it wasn’t for this mark, you wouldn’t be alive anymore, Luna.”
