Chapter 75 - The Doctor
LUNA ASTERBELLE'S POV
The numbness, both internally and externally, made me motionless. My mind couldn't thoroughly process what went wrong and what was going on. Jerome clearly had a plan to escape from the Blood Moon Pack together with Mrs. Asterbelle, so he surely knew that she was still sane a few moments ago.
"Why is this happening to me?" My tears streamed down my cheeks as I could no longer keep this sadness to myself. "Why? What did I do to deserve this hellish life?"
All the emotions I've repressed for so long exploded, and all of a sudden, my horn illuminated a crimson light. It was directed to a single window where I saw Yve, which made me wonder what she meant to say with those continuous wave patterns.
Jerome carried me; my waist was enveloped by his entire left arm, and his hand reached my back. I was literally floating, and he did the same with my mother, even though she kept on resisting. "Let's retreat for the day and go back soon after we're healed. I wasn't expecting that Brian was well-prepared for us."
We escaped through the window, which was destroyed by my horn's light. "This man insisted that I should gain your attention. I'm sorry if I made you uncomfortable with the way I called you," she muttered while pointing behind her back where I saw Dr. Joseph.
"Joseph? What are you doing here?" I asked him out of pure curiosity. Jerome then brought me down to the ground to let me approach the doctor at once.
What if Joseph was sent here by Brian to pretend like we're allies when in fact, he'd just spy on us to silently help Brian's pack?
Although all of my doubts were erased when I saw how Joseph's eyes didn't even seem like he had any ulterior motives at all. "Hey there. I'm here to help you recover from Mr. Asterbelle's dagger," Joseph replied as he glanced at everyone else I was accompanied by. "You can also ask me to treat the rest of your allies," he added.
Joseph's aura was bright yellow, which only indicated how sincere he was.
I let myself rest, but Jerome didn't allow me to; he carried me the same way he did earlier. "We're heading back to the Crimson Moon Pack," he said.
My forehead wrinkled in disapproval. "I doubt that you'd carelessly let me return to the Holmes' residence; I believe that you have your reasons."
I gave up the thought of trying to argue with his decision. Jerome was the type of person who wouldn't change his mind once he'd already made his choice.
"I don't see Jazpher anywhere…" I mumbled before he could even start to walk away.
Yve raised her hand. "Jazpher is in our mansion. He went back to—"
"Mrs. Asterbelle, are you okay?" Jerome cut Yve's sentence when my mother lost consciousness—she stopped resisting. "Let's fall back to our basement first and have Joseph here treat your mother," he hurriedly announced.
After a rough ten minutes, we arrived at the underground organization. I immediately laid down on the couch, beside Yve, while Mrs. Asterbelle got to be placed on a fluffy bed.
Jerome couldn't relax; he kept on going back and forth from the corner of the room and to the bed, which kind of made me frustrated, so I asked, "Can't you stay still for a minute?"
On the other hand, Joseph ordered me to lean on my back as he proceeded with the process of how he planned to heal me, as well as Jerome, so I bid him my gratitude.
"The rest of you can have a decent conversation first. I have to take my time in resurrecting Miss Asterbelle's mother, and I can't be disturbed," Joseph informed us as he tried to bring Jerome away from the bed. "I'll save the Luna of the Blood Moon Pack no matter what; don't worry too much," he reassured the king.
Jerome seemed like he still had second thoughts, but he could no longer argue with the doctor's decision. He sighed as he turned around to walk over to us and sit on the opposite couch.
"Call Yuki over here; we need to start our next plan. It's actually our last shot, so if we still fail this one, then it's going to be game over for our side," Jerome said with such a serious tone.
I placed one of my hands in front of my chest. "Me? I have no means of contacting that brat," I uttered, still annoyed by how she treated the two of us like trash just because we were part of the mafia.
Jerome rolled his eyes at me as he glanced to the left side, where I didn't notice that Jazpher was speaking on the phone.
Jazpher then lent Jerome his phone. "Yuki, we're initiating our plan. I didn't want to, but we're left with no other choice. Come here in a few minutes; if you don't, we'll fetch you," he said to the person on the other line before he ended the call, not bothering to wait for her to respond.
"Weren't we supposed to make use of Yve if our first plan to dive in their pack house fails?" I inquired, remembering the discussion we had previously.
I suddenly felt the cold breeze splashing through my skin as I felt that Yve looked at me.
"We swore not to use Yve unless we've seriously run out of any other tactics. We still have the Holmes' siblings," Jerome clarified.
"And what if your plan to manipulate Holmes also ends up pointless?"
"Stop trying to attract bad spirits, Luna!" Yve shouted out of the blue, which made me glance at her. "S-sorry," she apologized at the same time that she bowed her head, her fingers fidgeting.
"You're not mad at me anymore?" I asked.
If only I could see in the mirror what my widened eyes look like right now, I'm sure that I could see them sparkling.
Yve breathed heavily as she shook her head twice. "I should be thankful to you for considering turning me back into a human," she shortly replied.
The moment that I saw a tear falling from her eyes, I immediately hugged her. "You've done nothing wrong, except for that one time when I begged you to trust me and let me stay in your place, but you insisted that I should give you my blood," I muttered, moving away from our physical contact. "You even compared me to Jerome back then and called me a monster," I added.
"Sorry." Yve was only able to ask for my forgiveness.
Though I totally understand Yve, she probably didn't want to be mistreated like me, if ever she chose to take my side.
"Her finger just moved!" Dr. Joseph cheerfully notified us, leading the three of us to get inside the same area as him.
I sat on the available stool beside Mrs. Asterbelle's bed as I grabbed her hand, holding it firmly to feel its warmth. "Mom, wake up, please?" I begged her.
And just like what Joseph mentioned a while ago, I felt mom's fingers attempting to intertwine with mine. "L-Luna…" she called me as soon as she opened her eyes.
I consecutively nodded my head. "Yes, mom. It's me, Luna. What happened?" I inquired, even though I kind of felt guilty that I didn't give her a few moments to at least recover her strength.
Mrs. Asterbelle told us everything that Brian did to her before and while we were inside their pack.
As I suspected, Brian did take her soul away during the whole time that I let him out of my sight, which Jerome wasn't able to notice since he was already searching for me when he felt the rage of my wolf.
"The Alpha was expecting your return, Luna. Even now, I'm sure he's eagerly waiting for us to go back there. I doubt that he didn't feel the reawakening of my wolf as well as my soul," Mrs. Asterbelle said, glancing at the doctor. "I don't know how I can repay you for bringing me back to life—thank you."
