Chapter 89 - The Slaughter
LUNA ASTERBELLE'S POV
Brian brought me out of the pack house, somewhere within the woods, where I tend to get lost when I am still a kid. He probably assumed that there would be no one guarding this place since we already went to the mansion with my vigorous allies.
The only one left here outside who was capable was Zen, along with their pack warriors, though I can't detect their specific hideout.
"I should have buried you alive. No, I never should have considered listening to that stupid man to adopt you." Brian began to reminisce about the past that he could no longer change without mentioning who he was referring to. "Too bad for you, though; you'll die without stepping foot in that wonderful world where you could've made a bounty of fresh humans."
A world filled with humans? Those only exist in fairytales; there's no such thing as mortals. Not even the moon goddess knows about them. Grimstone was the only place that actually existed.
If humans were real, then do they also know about us?
I haven't talked about it with Jerome before since it never crossed my mind.
"I'm not a fool to get played by your words anymore, Brian," I replied, even though I couldn't stop thinking about that possibility.
Roaming my eyes around the forest, I automatically recognized the exact location that we were in. So I took the initiative to mind-link with Jerome to inform him where I was, and he told me not to agitate Brian any further until he arrived.
The only advantage I have against him is the glowing stone, and nothing else. He could easily read my moves through my aura, and he could also release flames, just like me.
If people didn't know about my adoption, they would surely think that I was their biological daughter because of how I had the rare ability of the Asterbelles.
"Have you heard about your mate's secret?" Brian asked while continuously leaping here and there. "He lived in the human world for years during his disappearance from school."
My eyebrows furrowed when my heart got filled with doubts about Jerome. If he really was my mate, he should have told me about that sooner, especially when it was a great factor in how we weren't together for years.
"Don't trust him, Luna. You're going to fall for his hypnotism tricks if you do," Jerome said, and I didn't even notice that we were still in the midst of our mind-link; likewise, he heard my inner thoughts loud and clear. "I was out of the country because of some matters regarding the Dark Shadow Clan. You know how there was a controversy about mafias living below the mansion that was supposed to only be occupied by vampires," he clarified.
The old me would have thought that Jerome was lying for the sake of protecting himself. But now, I could tell that he was telling the truth.
I sank into the serenity of the woods as I let out a sigh of relief. I shifted to my wolf when I finally got the resolve to end this before everything turned disastrous.
The way I unconsciously growl and shriek from the pain of my bones cracking were sounds that gave music to my ears.
"I'm not going down alone, Brian. We're both going to the underworld," I grunted.
Lightning struck the skies as we began the chasing game for the nth time. Every time Brian lands his claws on me, I repay him double the amount. I can't comprehend what's holding him back from killing me, knowing that he's the strongest among all of us.
"Luna, watch out!"
My feet got covered in soil as I forced myself to stop in my tracks when I heard a man from the west side yell out.
A speeding arrow almost landed on Brian's arm. Judging from its edge, which had the Crimson Moon Pack's logo, I knew that it was shot by Zen.
"I guess it didn't work out pretty well inside that you had to bring your duel out here," Zen mumbled soon after he went there from the top of the hill. "Your wolf is as gorgeous as you," he complimented me while pulling something out of his bag.
It was the same tube that Nero used to take my blood. Zen went in front of me, holding my mouth with such gentleness to carefully slip the thick liquid inside.
"That's an improved version of your hybrid blood. Our doctor had some excess from the experiment he conducted, so he told me to give it to you," Zen explained.
Even if the butler doesn't give a proper explanation about it, I know it was made to gradually increase my strength beyond the limits that I can imagine, since Astra's muscles grew bigger.
I couldn't express my gratitude to Zen when Brian got to my spot and snarled at me, exposing those sharpened teeth. "Whatever you do, you won't stand a chance to defeat an alpha." A growl resonated from the extensive part of his gullet.
"Don't jinx it, Brian." Without any further delay, I thrashed him across his head to his broadened shoulders with all of my claws spread and yearning to slash his head off.
I sensed Jerome's presence getting near, so I tried to buy a little bit more of Brian's time. I pushed him towards the pile of trees that got smashed one after another until he got below my entire body.
I made sure that he wouldn't be able to flee from his position until Jerome arrived with a branch of a tree in his hand that he used to pierce Brian's chest.
Jerome pushed it down with all his might until Brian's blood splashed through our bodies. It was such a disturbing sight to watch, and I thought that it would end with just that, but Jerome didn't want to stop.
My mate literally devoured Brian, pulling each and every single internal organ from the insides of his belly. He only spared Brian's heart, which was still pumping and remained in his hand.
"Alpha Brian is dead."
