Chapter 12 Genesis
Fernanda bid farewell to the people she was talking to and made her way to the gentlemen. Matt was puzzled by Alejandro's anxiousness as she drew closer. Alejandro raised a shaky hand to Fernanda but her gloved hands only touched the tip of his fingers.
She and Alejandro exchanged pleasantries in Spanish while Matt maintained his silence. Alejandro pointed at him and Fernanda nodded her head. Matt assumed that Alejandro was introducing him to her. His assumptions were proven true when he heard Alejandro say his name. The next thing that Matt saw was Fernanda walking away.
"We are going with her to her house." Alejandro quickly said to Matt and they followed her.
Fernanda's house was a block away from the church. She slowly unlocked the door and the men followed her in. She gestured to the sofas and they sat down quietly. The house was humble and simplistic in its decor. The kitchen and the sitting room occupied the same room. A curtain hid a doorway so neither of the men saw what was beyond it.
The curtains suddenly flashed open and a girl was revealed. She appeared to be around the ages of 10 and 12. She greeted them in Portuguese and went outside. Fernanda put her bible on the coffee table and leaned back in her seat with her eyes on Alejandro. For the next few minutes, the both of them conversed in Spanish.
Matt cleared his throat, "If it's not too much trouble, could you please use English." he voiced out his concern.
Fernanda raised her eyebrows at him and slightly nodded her head. "Tell me why you have come to me." she said in a thick Spanish accent.
"My girlfriend, Ruth, is in trouble and I need all the help I can get to save her. She has been kidnapped by a demon who wishes to marry her during the next Lunar Eclipse that is to happen in a month." he said.
"It's happening in two weeks." Fernanda corrected and Matt looked at her shocked.
"Wh-.."
"Yes, the next Lunar eclipse is in two weeks." she bluntly emphasized. "Mr. Daka, tell me, how can you seek help from He who you do not believe in?"
"I believe that God exists. I am just not a fan of him." Matt quickly answered to Alejandro's surprise.
Fernanda laughed softly, "Your faith is in the wrong place so how can you hope to save her?" she asked him again.
Matt got up agitated. "If you can't help us that's fine. I'll find someone else who can and I'll pay them if I have to." his sharp words threatened.
Fernanda crossed her legs and shook her head unamused, "You think the Holy Spirit is for sale? You cannot put a price on the Holy Spirit. He was given to us freely, and we are to freely share his power with others." she calmly told Matt who was still scowling at her.
"Are you out of your mind? You can't talk to her like that." Alejandro rebuked him.
"She is wasting our time." Matt argued back without remorse.
"Please, forgive him." Alejandro pleaded with his hand on his chest.
Fernanda shook her finger at Matt. "With your attitude, I tell you that no one will be willing to help you. When one is seeking help from others, it is best that he humbles himself."
"I am running out of time." Matt painfully said. "She... she, she is – I need help. What do you want?" he asked her.
"Taking your seat again would be great." Fernanda said and he sat back down. "So, you have a problem with an incubus." she beckoned.
"What is an incubus?" Matt asked, confused.
"It is a male demon that has sexual relations with people in their sleep. It also goes as far as claiming women and marrying them." she explained.
"Spirits can marry living women?" Alejandro asked, surprised.
Fernanda slowly nodded her head. "Oh yes they can. Genesis 6: 1 -2..."
'When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose.'
"You see, these rebellious angels lusted for Earth's women. They came down to Earth and found bodies for themselves. In other words, they possessed human bodies. With their newly acquired bodies, they married these women and slept with them."
"What?" Matt gasped.
"During the flood in Noah's time, the angels abandoned their fleshy bodies and went back to heaven but God punished them. Revelations 12:9 states,
And the great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of the old who is called the Devil and Satan who deceives the whole world; he was thrown down and his angels were thrown down with him
So you see, those angels who fell from heaven became the demons of today. To this day, they still marry people. They come in many ways. They come through sexual sin. Once they sleep with you in your dreams, they begin to wreak havoc in your life. In some ways, they come through a covenant which of course is Ruth's case."
"But why her?" Matt stressed.
"The demon has every right to claim her due to the covenant he made with her ancestor. Just as God takes his covenants seriously, so does the devil and his demons. To make matters worse, this deal was struck with Asmodues. The most evil demon there is. He will do everything he can to hold onto her."
"Is there hope?" Matt leaned forward, his eyes studying Fernanda's relaxed face.
"Yes, it is illegal for spirits to marry that's why you say, 'Until death do us part' in your vows. In as much as Asmodues has claims over Ruth, in God's eyes, his claims are nothing."
Matt felt somewhat relieved with Fernanda's words. Fernanda turned to Alejandro and conversed with him in Spanish again. This time around, Matt did not care.
His mind was frantically racing due to what he was told. He was so lost in thought that he didn't feel Alejandro get up and tap his shoulder. Alejandro looked at Fernanda flustered and tapped Matt again.
"Wh-huh?" Matt asked him, confused.
"It's time to go." Alejandro answered and led him out before he could say anything.
"Has she agreed to come?" Matt asked.
"Yes, she will meet us at dawn tomorrow." Alejandro replied as they rushed out.
