Chapter 15

Carl rang the doorbell, he heard some footsteps heading towards the door and he stepped back a little bit, the door opened to reveal the same man that was in the photo, "yes, how may I help you?" he said. "Good Afternoon, Mr. Johns, I am detective Carl Miller and I'm here to ask you a few questions about the Will that you were in charge of administering after the death of Lilly and Logan Kramer."

Robert wore the expression of worry and guilt on his face, he didn't look like the type of guy to even help defend himself, "Listen, gentlemen, I really didn't want anything to do with that matter, this case happened a long time ago," he said. Carl told him that if he decided to not talk about the case, he was going to have to be arrested and taken for questioning at the police station. Robert ran his fingers through his hands and decided to let them in.

"You got kids?" James asked, "Well, I have a daughter and a son, they went on holiday to visit their mother," Robert replied. "Oh, divorced?" Carl asked, "Affirmative." Giovanni pulled out his phone and held it in his hands. He thought that it would be wise to take a video of the man as he spoke. "So, Mr. Robert, want to tell us how you came to the conclusion that May Tanner was the rightful owner of the fortune that the Kramers left?" Carl started.

Robert looked down, he stared at the walls for a while, "I had a feeling that one day, someone would realise that it didn't make sense. When I was given the Will, it had clearly stated that Ingrid Kramer was supposed to inherit everything. But of course, she was only young, so she needed a guardian, and I went looking for May Tanner," he looked away from the gentle men, Carl motioned for him to not be afraid to go on.

"You see, when I went to visit May, she sat me down and saw an opportunity to be a guardian and at the same time, an owner of the fortune. She gave me an offer, that she would give me twenty percent of the money in the will if only I made one that was in her favour," he said.

James asked Robert if he had agreed to the offer, "Not quite, I had no interest in it at all, I'm not fully financially stable but I still didn't see the need of that much money, ridiculous right? he replied, "I left the house, but before I could open the door, May mentioned my children, she said she knew what school they went to and where exactly they're mother lived, I was afraid that she was going to hurt my family. I couldn't imagine what she was going to do to them." At this point, Robert was dropping tears. Giovanni handed the man a box of tissues.

"So she blackmailed you, how expected," James said as he jolted down some notes. "Don't worry, Robert. We are going to make sure that this woman doesn't harm you or your family," Carl said. He got up and looked at Giovanni and James, "this is all the evidence we need, Giovanni, forward that video to me and James and I will carry on from here."

James shook Mr. Robert’s hand and thanked him for his co-operation. "That was faster than I expected," Giovanni said, "Well, after many years, a man at his age would be exhausted about such topics, but he set the ball rolling. Now, to complete the last step," Carl said.

*Doorbell rings*

"Yes? Who is it?" Kate said when she opened the door, "Hello, young lady, is your mother home?" Carl asked as he held up his badge. Kate yelled for her mother to come down stairs. Aunt May came running down the stairs in a fancy dress, it looked like she was leaving for a date, "You're not my boyfriend," she pointed at Carl. “May Tanner, you are under arrest for the use of bribery, extortion and property grabbing," he walked towards her and put her in handcuffs.

Kate had her hands over her mouth, May struggled as Carl took her out of the house, "Unhand me, you filth! I am innocent!" she yelled. Carl looked her dead in the eye, "I was afraid that you would hurt my family, turns out you put another man on your chain, and now he will testify against you in court," he said, "You have the right to remain silent."

Carl put her in the police car and drove off with his partner. Kate didn't know what to do, she was now left all alone in that big house. She had to think of something.

When Carl and his partner got to the police station, James was there too. Carl took May into the interrogation room where he asked her a few questions. He told her that if only he had thought of it earlier, he would have definitely had her arrested. He asked her why she convinced him so much to believe that the fire incident was purely accidental, and why she forced him to stop searching. May was panicking now, she was about to lose everything but she didn't want to go down alone.

"I paid two hunch men to set the house ablaze, they helped me!" she confessed. James and Carl's partner were outside and paying heed to everything she said. “If she continues to confess like this in court, all she has to do is plead guilty and I won't have that much work to do," James said. Carl walked out of the room and called his partner, he gave them the names of the two hunch men, Miles and Matthew, and that they should be arrested immediately.

His partner called another officer to go with him and they went out to get them. After May had confessed to everything, Carl called one of the police officers to take May to her cell. James shook hands with Carl and then went outside.

"She confessed, her trial is not so long from now, I'll keep giving you updates," James said to Giovanni. Giovanni gave James a long hug and thanked him so much for his help. "Hey, you helped bring criminals to the light too, now don't forget what's important," James said, "go get your girl."

Giovanni nodded and got into the car, he was so excited, he couldn't wait. He dialled Ingrid's phone number but she did not pick up. He was already on the move, he dialled her number again, he really wanted to see her and he wanted to let her know, but she still did not answer. "Maybe she's still asleep, I guess I'll call her at 8pm," he thought.

Ingrid's alarm went off at 5PM, she hesitated to get out of bed, she knew what the night had installed for her. She finally slipped out of the blankets and sat in front of her mirror, she began to recite the lyrics of a song that she once heard by one of her favourite artists;

" Why'd you have to sell me to those mean old men? They cut me up in places I don't even understand, it's normalcy to me but how will my boyfriend understand....I'm 22, sleeping with a million men."

She sighed just as she came to the last sentence. She went to the bathroom to take her shower and prepare for her job that night. She wore red leggings and red bottom heels. She wore a laced bra and a red thong that had fur around the area that settled around her waist. She wore the same make up again around her face to hide the bruises and concealed the ones on her neck. When she was done, she grabbed her coat and started heading out.

As she walked down the stairs to grab herself something to eat before leaving, she heard noises in the kitchen. She hid to get a clear view of who it was, "Well, I need some help to earn me some money, because I don't think that my mother is coming back," the voice said, "I really need your help, baby." Ingrid emerged from the corners, "Baby? Clover! You've been dating my cousin this whole time?" she yelled.

Clover pushed Kate out of Ingrid's sight, "And what business is this of yours?" Ingrid was worried about Kate, even if she gave her every reason to hate her. "Wait, Ingrid? You left home to become a whore stripper? Ha! Typical," Kate said. Ingrid watched as Kate glared at her. Clover stepped in between them and said, "Ginger, you better respect your bosses, because Kate and I are going to be dealing with this club as a partnership."

Ingrid didn't like the sound of her being a whore employee under her evil cousin, she blinked twice, "She will find new recruits for my growing club and you will continue to boost, and she will be getting the 50 percent profit," Clover said. Ingrid moved a little forward and asked about the profit that he had offered to give her once they had raised enough money, "oh, unfortunately, you will not be getting that, you will be getting paid like any other regular employee, because the 50 percent profit, my dear Ginger, is mine," Clover chuckled.

Ingrid wanted to burn them, she wanted to see them getting eaten by hungry dogs. She watched as they laughed together. Kate waved her hands and asked Ingrid to get ready. "Kate, where is Aunt May? And why are you here?!" she yelled.

Kate waved her hair and told Ingrid that she didn't owe her any explanation, but if she wanted to know so badly, "Mother was arrested this morning for some crimes I don't remember, and since I can't be on my own, I chose to be come a COO of the club that my sugar bunny owns," Kate said and began kissing Clover.

Ingrid stared in disgust, she couldn't understand why Clover just took a whole different turn, was he changing? Or did he become more of who he was? She went between them and tried to push Clover away, instead, he choked her and lifted her off the floor. He tossed her on the floor and Kate kicked her in her belly.
