Chapter 13 Chasing Pavements
Siam's POV
At that moment, I would have asked nothing more than to hear her say that she loves me too, but I wouldn’t want to pressure her. I wasn’t in the position to do so.
But I didn’t need to hear it, Anna showed me she did.
How she would often run to my side with Serenity and calm me down. All the while giving the impression that it was Serenity who was doing all of it. She refused to come near me without Serenity.
Which was probably a good idea since I have stopped hooking up with other girls, there was only her. Without Serenity I would probably take her somewhere and do things that I never thought I’d think of doing with her.
Yes, I have indeed stopped seeing girls, as I promised Anna. But I couldn’t tell the girls not to flock over me without giving them a reason why. Telling them that I’m waiting and preserving myself- not that there is anything to preserve- to my mate isn’t actually the most manly reason was it?
And as much as I want to tell Serenity that I have mated and that I am no longer whoring around, as Serenity so lovely put it, for more than a year already, Anna asked me not to tell her. Saying that she’ll probably announced it to everyone in the pack and the school to get the girls’ paws and hands off me- no pun intended.
She said that Serenity will not let her be the reason of why we can’t get together now. That she is sure Serenity would use her alpha and deity tone on us to get what she wanted.
And I knew she was right, my baby sister was a brat like that.
“Hey…” I looked up and saw Anna walk toward me, carrying a tray with her.
“Hey…” I smiled at her and reached out to help her with the tray.
“Thanks.” She whispered, “I didn’t know what you wanted, so I just made you your favourite sandwich. Easy to make, and easy to eat.”
I stifled a laugh, “Thank you love…” I whispered and gave her a quick kiss as I snake my free arm around her waist.
What? We need to have a little intimate moments.
“Hey, the group vote for a no smooching policy.” I hear Liam say by the doorway.
“You and what group votes for this?” I asked, Anna chuckles.
“Me, and everyone who you are keeping this from.” He warned. “Oh, and Serenity.”
I rolled my eyes as Anna laughed and leaned on me. “We really should find you your mate, Liam. I swear you are growing old by the minute and I’m pretty sure that Serenity would vote for that too.”
“What? And settle down and disappoint the ladies?” he asked as if disgusted, “No thanks.”
Anna shook her head and wrapped her arms around my waist.
Of course, I knew better. If there was anyone who would probably thought of mating it was Liam. He had been fascinated of the idea of having only one girl with him. In fact, if it wasn’t for his needs, he’d probably still be a virgin up to now.
“Besides, since prince-y here had turned over a new leaf, and had refused to accept any offers from girls with the help of his sister and responsibility, the boys and I had to work double shift.”
“Urgh,” Anna whined, “Please spare me the details, Liam.”
We both laughed and I kissed her again on the temple.
“Hey, hey… parental guidance…” I groaned sensing Jake and Aaron join us.
Of course we had to tell them as well, to make them understand why Anna was suddenly hands off to everyone. And seeing that they are as protective of me and Serenity being their alpha, they became equally protective of Anna, their future luna.
“Seriously,” Jake says, “you’ll cause another shock if Serenity caught you.”
“Then she’ll definitely go into coma.” Aaron added.
We all laughed as I let Anna slip out of me and sit on the sofa as I settled beside her.
“Shut up.” I said. “You boys are just jealous as you have no ladies in your arms.”
“Yeah, yeah…” Jake says, “Well I can always pick up Serenity and sing her a lullaby.”
“Try and I’ll kick your ass out of here.” I said.
“Ditto.” Anna and Liam says in unison.
I picked up my sandwich and handed one to Anna. While the boys settled at the side of the bed sitting on the carpet, their plates set on their lap.
“How is she doing?” Aaron asked.
I sighed and looked back at Serenity who was still asleep.
“Well, I guess she’s looking better now.” I said. “The wound is still healing, but the bleeding stopped or at least lessened.”
“You sure that this human medicine still works on her?” Jake asks.
“Well, if she still doesn’t have her wolf, then it would work on her human body.” Anna says.
“This is crazy, guys.” Jake shook his head. “I mean, I know this is the famous daughter of the moon, but still. Losing your wolf? It’s never heard of.”
“I wish it wasn’t true.” Anna says, “But if you saw the magic behind it, the vision and memories… you felt the energy in that room, when she asked Siam to save Eric… that was no childish magic.”
I felt her shudder and went cold in an instant. So I put an arm around her and pulled her closer, calming her.
“So Johansen has her wolf?” Jake asked.
“Yup.” I said with a pop.
“So how are we gonna do this?” Aaron sets down the plate on the floor and clapping his hand off of crumbs.
“What do you mean?” Anna asked.
“Well, we’ll be taking the wolf from him, aren’t we?” Aaron asked. “Will we be killing him in the process-“
“Are you stupid?!”Anna snapped. “Listen to me, I swear if any of you lay a finger on Eric, I will make sure you do not make it out of there alive.”
“Wow, protective much?” Jake teases, “I’m assuming Siam knows this little crush of yours Anna?”
Anna turned to me with wide eyes making me laugh.
“Calm down love, they’re just teasing.” I said.
“You haven’t told them?”
I shook my head, “I wanted to be in private when I do.”
“Tell us what?” Aaron asks.
“Eric is Serenity’s mate.”
“What?” they asked in unison.
“Eric is Sernity’-“
“We heard doofus!” Aaron snapped. Liam turned to him with a look. “Sorry…”
I grinned at my wingman seeing how crazy they seem. Liam as everyone knows was me second as Jake is my third and Aaron my fourth. The only ones I trust with Anna and Serenity.
“Why did King Silver ask him to leave if he was the one he has been waiting for?” Jake asked.
I felt anger run through me remembering why. “Just because he didn’t approve.” I said. “Eric isn’t a pureblood.”
“But the prophecy-“
“We could have missed something.” Liam says. “I mean, we never really gave Eric the chance to explain himself did we?”
“The fact of him saving Serenity alone should have been enough to at least make him explain.” Aaron adds.
“You know how stubborn dad is.” I set my sandwich back on the plate, losing my appetite all together.
“So now we’re taking her to him so they can mate and it’ll be all’s well that’s ends well.” Jake says. “Everything will be fine after this, highness.”
“I hope so.” I said.
By nightfall we stopped over a town and a hotel, I stayed at the RV to watch over Serenity. I refused to have her move to a room, in case of emergency that we have to leave fast.
I sat beside her in bed reading a book when I heard the door open. I sat up and took in the scent of whoever arrived. I frowned the same moment he stepped into the room.
“What do you want?” I ask, sitting back and glued my eyes on the book.
“I brought you dinner.” My father gestures to the mini kitchen outside the room.
“Thank you.” I said, non- chalant.
“So how is she doing?”
“Serenity’s doing better.” I said, still not taking my eyes away from the book, which I was no longer reading.
“That’s good.” He said as he stood at the other side of the bed.
Then the room fell quiet until he sighed, defeated. “Look son,” he starts, “I know you are still mad-“
“I think pissed off is a much better term dad.” I said. “It has more ring to it, don’t you think?”
He shrugged, “Ok, so you are still pissed off, but I hope you understand that I was just acting by my better judgment. I would not deliberately hurt you or your sister-“
“That’s just it dad,” I sat up and glared at him, “you did. And look where we are now. Look at Serenity.”
“And you think I don’t feel bad about this?” he snapped, “I know this is my fault-“
“Good.” I said. “Then maybe you would learn that not because you are king means you are always right. That not because you know things that others don’t mean you know everything.” I stood up now, tossing the book on the side. “Maybe now, you understand that you are a father before you are king.”
This little rant of mine caught him by surprise, which was no surprise to me.
“That… I...”
“You wanted to force her to shift so she can heal herself? After you forced her mate to stay away from her, for good?” I snapped. “You of all people know how hard it is to be away from mom when responsibility calls you to leave us and yet you inflict the same pain to Serenity.”
“Siam, I wouldn’t have done it if I didn’t have a choice.” He argued. “Eric was far from the best candidate as your sister’s mate. He isn’t pureblood or even alpha by blood. He was adopted-“
“Then maybe the fates has some weird plans that’s why he chose him as Serenity’s mate.” I said. “And as far as the purity of blood goes, Eric is the only candidate for Serenity for me. He had the decency to talk to her and got to know her, he didn’t see her as the deity that she is, she saw her as Serenity Grey, a female she wolf who is searching for her mate.”
He stood there defeated. And I hated him more. I walked up to him and pushed a finger on his chest.
“Do you know how hard it is to be so near to your mate and yet never get the chance to hold her or even as much as tell her you love her?!” I asked, “Do you dad?!”
He stared at me now, studying my face. I knew pain and anger was what my eyes would reflect and so I turned away from him.
“Siam…”
“Just leave.” I said.
“Have you found-“
“Leave!” I shouted again, this time it was my alpha tone that shook the RV. “You can’t stand there and look at me as if you understand, cause you don’t!” he stared at me as if in disbelief. “I gave my whole life to Serenity and I will never ever regret that. But I would want a small part of it for my mate. And I can’t do that if my attention is still on Serenity and her safety. I can never give up my responsibility to her, nor will I hurt my mate by giving her the impression that she isn’t my priority. Cause quite frankly she is!” I took a deep breath, “She is my priority and I fear that if I tighten our bond I will put her in danger and lose her.”
“That will not happen-“
“How would you know?!” I shouted again, this time flipping over the coffee table. “How would you know?! Or maybe you would not approve and force her away too, just like what you do to every wolf that do not pass your standard!”
Then I walked up to him again and grabbed a handful of his shirt, “I swear to all that is good, if you even lay a finger or speak ill of her you will not only lose an heir but also a son.”
“Siam…”
I looked by the door and saw the others standing and watching us. Anna and mother stood by the door, Liam and his father stood behind them Jake and Aaron were glaring at the guards, watching every move in case they came to my father’s aid.
“Siam, let him go.” Anna says. I glared at him for the last time and pushed her toward them. Mother caught him and looked back at me, worried. Anna and Liam rushed to my side as Jake and Aaron stood between us.
“It would be better if you leave, highness.” Liam says.
“Siam…” mother says.
“I’ll be fine mother.” I looked away, “Just go.”
I hear them shuffle out of the RV and I let Anna calm me down.
“Son,” I stiffened again, but Anna held unto me, stopping me from facing my father, “she must be some girl for you to speak so highly of her.”
I stared at Anna, but I knew he couldn’t see.
“She is.” I said.
“Then I am in no position to question that.” He said. “Not anymore.”
With that said he left.
“Did he just do what I think he did?” Jake asks.
I stood there not wanting to think of the same conclusion. “What?”
“He just handed you the crown Siam.” Liam said.
The event of last night was far from forgotten, and early that morning everyone was informed of the handing down. I was again sitting beside Serenity, holding her hand and staring at her face.
I didn’t wait for the sun to rise, I wanted to be back on the road as we still had half the day to at least catch up with Eric’s convoy.
“Siam?” I looked up and saw Anna standing by the door, worried.
I sighed and looked back at Serenity and pushed back her hair for nth time that morning. “I’m fine Anna.”
“No you aren’t.” she said as she walk toward me and knelt in front of me. I stared at her and she stared back. “Tell me.”
“I just can’t do this anymore.” I said. “I can’t keep hurting and making you wait.”
“Siam we’ve talked about this-“
“I know.” I whined and set Serenity’s hand down over her chest. “But I can’t take it anymore. I hate this, I hate hiding, I want to tell everyone-“
“And we will.” She says, “Soon. We’ll be at California, Serenity will be with Eric and we can go tell everyone.”
I sighed and grinned at her, “I’m sounding like a brat right now, aren’t I?”
She made a face and tipped her head sideward, “Yeah…” I laughed and shook my head. “But I think it’s cute.”
I raised a brow, “Cute?”
“Yes, cute.” She repeated.
“A cute alpha.” I said, “I don’t think that one is ever heard of.”
She rolled her eyes, “Well, I can’t classify a tantrum like that as hot.” She pointed out, “It was sweet though.”
I smiled and pulled her to my lap, “I think I’ll go for sweet.”
She smiled, “I knew you would.”
I laughed and pulled her close to me, closing the gap between us, as my lips met hers. It was moments like this that I find peace and solitude in my life, and there were very few of these moments as Anna is very careful of our make out sessions. Which often happens when we go for runs or in between classes.
Somehow, Serenity wanting to get away from Anna has its perks.
Then as if breaking that peace, I hear a groan, but not from Anna, then a stir, which definitely did not come from me. I pulled away from Anna and turned to Serenity.
“Eric…” she whispered, “Eric…”
“Serenity?” I called for her, Anna stood behind me as I reached for Serenity’s hand. “Serenity, can you hear me?”
She turned her head toward me, “Siam?”
I felt relief finally run through me, “Serenity!” I dove into her and wrapped her in my arms.
“Siam… can’t… breath…” she whispered.
“Oh, sorry…” I loosen my hug a bit and reached kiss her on the forehead. “How are you feeling? Are you hungry? Do you want anything?”
“Water…” she said in a raspy voice.
“I’ll get it.” Anna rushed out to the door.
“God, I’m so glad you’ve finally woken up.” I said.
She stared at me with a frown, “How long have I been out?” she asked.
“A day and a half.” I said.
She propped herself up, leaning on her elbows as she looked around with half opened eyes, “We’re in the RV.”
“Yeah.”
“Where are we going?” she frowned.
I smiled at her, “We’re going to California.”
“What? Why?”
This time I reached for her face and brushed my thumb on her cheek. “We’re going to see Eric.”
