Chapter 15 She's Only Happy in the Sun
Siam’s POV
I lied beside Anna staring at her as she sleep, her breathing was calm and she stirred several times throughout the night groaning and whining a couple of times. Making me wonder what she was dreaming about.
The events of last night made me look at the other bed, Serenity was peacefully sleeping beside mom who had an arm draped over Serenity.
Something sparkled in her hand and noticed that it was her necklace. I looked back at Anna, would it be too much to ask for her to heal her?
But seeing her all weakened after healing Uncle Luke made me think twice. Then again, that wasn’t because of the healing, it was because she went back to the past. I thought about it the whole night, she still had some of her powers, but not the ones that her wolf can give her. Like speed, mind link or ability to heal herself.
I looked over my shoulder and checked the clock on the side table. 4 am, I thought. I sighed and ran my hand over my face, I really need to get some sleep.
Then the door opened and I sat up, letting go of Anna’s hand. A second later my dad stood by the door, as if checking on us, then his eyes landed on me, I frowned.
“You ok?”
“Yeah, just checking in.” he said.
“How’s Uncle?” I asked.
“He’s good, been ranting about getting out of bed, good thing Liam has his ways with him, beta or not.” He chuckled.
I nodded and leaned back down the headboard.
“Siam, listen…” he walked up to me but I never look up at him. “I’m sorry. I know what I did was wrong, keeping Serenity from Eric, tying you up in this responsibility-“
“I have nothing against protecting Serenity.” I cut him off.
“Well, I’m sorry that because of that you can’t be with your mate.”
I glanced at Anna who was lying still in bed, a strand of hair over her face. I fought not to brush it off.
“I know it’s hard to be away from my mate, and I can just imagine finding her and cannot be with her.” he said.
“She understands.” I said, “She understands the situation more than she should actually. I won’t be surprise if she refuses to be with me until she herself knows Serenity is safe.”
“But son,” he says, “you are now the alpha and king, you can’t rule without a Luna. Our people will question your ability; they will ask if you truly are ready when you couldn’t even mate.”
I looked up at him, angry. “I have my mate where I want her and where she wants to be, I am in no hurry, and so is she. We’re not going to mate just because I’m now the king, I am mating her cause I love her.”
“I know that son, but you have to understand that you need her with you now more than ever.” There was a strain on his voice, obviously trying to keep his patience. “How can you be responsible of our kind if you can’t even take care of your own business?”
“Just stop it dad.” I snapped, “I am not just gonna throw her in this mess, I need to know that she is ready, that she understands and accepts this.”
“And if she doesn’t?”
I frowned, never really thinking that Anna will ever deny me to be with her. “She won’t leave me.”
“How sure are you?”
I glared at him again, “Sure as my next breath.”
I held his glare with mine, but I knew he would back down, father or not. Then I felt Anna stir beside me and she rolled into her side.
“Siam…” she whispered.
“Anna,” I leaned forward, “sorry…” then I looked up at my so called dad, Serenity may have forgiven him easily, but I doubt that I can anytime soon. “If you are staying here to rest you’ll have to shut up. We don’t want to wake them up.”
He shook his head and walked toward mother. “I just want to check in on you guys.” He kisses my mom and Serenity on the forehead. Then he walked back to the door, he reached for the handle but stopped for a second and turned to me.
“A mate isn’t just to bring you heir, Siam. She’s your strength, the reason that you don’t give up and you wake up every morning. She lights your darkest moment, and say what others are scared to tell you. She is the one who completes you, without her beside you, you will crumble into a heap, believe me.”
With that said, he stepped out of the room. Leaving me staring at the air where he was standing a few seconds ago.
I looked back at Anna, staring at her. The only reason that our bond hasn’t faltered was because we were constantly together. Both our wolves have pleaded and cried, but they knew the situation, my wolf knew I was protecting our mate, and he knows that they are near and they love us back, that was enough to calm him. But even then, everything was painful.
I glanced at Serenity, I can just imagine the pain she is right now without Eric. But it will end tonight, if we drove through and ran throughout the day we’ll be with Eric and his pack by night fall. Then Anna and I can work out what we need to work out.
I sighed and ran my hand through my hair.
“Lost in thoughts again?”
I looked down and saw Anna staring at me.
I smiled and gave her a kiss on the forehead, “Something like that.” She smiled and snuggled closer. “How are you feeling?”
“A bit stiff, but better I guess.” She says, I put an arm around her and pulled her closer. Its moments like this that I try to forget my troubles, to give Anna the attention that I was supposed to give her.
“You shouldn’t be so mad with your dad.” She said, breaking the silence.
I shrugged, “You heard that?” She gave me a sheepish smile, making me chuckle. “I can’t really help it, you saw what happened to Serenity, and now we’re all in trouble.”
“Well, you can’t say we didn’t expect this.” She said resting her head underneath my chin as I rest my head over hers. “It is Serenity we are talking about here.” I laughed, finally relaxing now that I know she is ok. “Siam?”
“Yeah?”
“I know I said to forgive him, but…” she paused and looked up at me again, “you know I’m not leaving you, right? I can wait forever Siam, I can wait until you are ready and-“
“I am ready Anna.” I smiled at her, “I just need to be sure that it is safe enough to show you off.”
She shook her head and rested her head back to our comfortable position. “Serenity is right, players like you are somewhat arrogant and a jerk.”
I stifled a laugh, “I guess you won’t let me change that thought as she is suppose to be wise?”
“Right you are.” She mumbled.
I chuckled and sighed, “I’m actually thinking of telling her already.”
She sat up and winced, but held up a hand when I tried to reach for her, “What?”
“Well, she’ll be with Eric tomorrow, and I was thinking she should know about us while you two can still gossip about it.” I teased.
“No!” she whispered shout, “We’ve been through this, her safety comes first.”
“And we’ve been this far.” I reasoned out, almost pleading. “What happened yesterday, I can’t have you so far away Anna. I was there and you were still hurt-”
“It was out of our control Siam.” She snaps again.
We stared at each other, well she was more of glaring, so I just sighed and nodded, “Whatever you want.”
“Siam…”
I gave her a smile telling her that it was ok, but I knew better, she wouldn’t believe me as easy as that, so I pulled her back to me, “Go rest, love. We’ll be leaving in a few hours.”
“I will if you will.” She said.
I grinned and kissed the top of her head again, “I’ll try, as much as I trust the guards outside, there’s no one who can protect you girls more than I could.”
She chuckled, “Arrogant.”
I laughed and put my arms around her, “Sleep Anna.”
She then rested her head under my chin and fell asleep instantly. I sighed and pulled her closer.
“You have a lot to explain to your sister.”
I glanced at the other bed and saw my mom sitting up. “What is it with you girls and acting asleep?”
She chuckled and glanced at Anna, “I knew there was a reason for her arrival.”
I smiled and stared at Anna. “And I’m happy to be part of that arrival.”
“I must have done something good for the fates to bless my children such good mates.”
“You raised good kids, is that reason enough?” I raised a brow.
“Yeah, arrogant.” She says making me laugh.
“You were supposed to agree.” I said faking hurt, “Some mother you are.”
“I know I raised good kids,” she said, “no need to rub it in.”
I chuckled, “So much for me being arrogant.”
She laughs and checked on Serenity with a smile. Then she kissed her on the forehead and stood up.
“Where are you going?” I asked, checking on the time.
“I always wake up this early to check on you guys.” She admitted, “Never grew out of it.”
“I guess it was a good thing I never took girls home.” I joked.
“Thank the good gods for that.” She rolled her eyes up as if sending prayers to the Gods, but kept an amuse smile on her face. “Anna should be kicking your ass for that remark.”
“Nah,” I said looking back at Anna, “She knows I’m done with that crap.”
“Good, or else your sister will be finding more reason to kick your ass.”
I stifled a laugh and glanced at Serenity, who was still deep in sleep. She was always a deep sleeper, the world would have ended outside and she’d still be asleep.
Then mom walked toward me and kissed me on the forehead as well, I smiled at her in response.
She glanced at Anna and back at me, giving me a look. “She is right, you know, about your father.” I looked away not wanting to talk about this with her, I know I wouldn’t be able to argue with her, at least with Anna she knows when to stop, mom would just keep pushing it. “He’s stubborn; you and your sister got that from him. But he is sorry and is trying his best to make things right.”
“I’ll be more civilized with him,” I said, “but I can’t forgive him just yet.”
She smiled and nodded, “I respect that.” She sighed, “I only started talking to him again yesterday myself.”
I chuckled, “Hypocrite.”
She slap my arm lightly, “You do not talk like that to ladies, your mate or your mother.”
I rolled my eyes, “Yes, mother.”
“Sleep, son,” she walked toward me, “you can trust the guards. I always did and we’ve reached this far, haven’t we?”
I glanced down at the floor where Jake and Aaron were asleep on two mattresses we had asked for earlier.
“Yeah, so safe.” I said with sarcasm.
She chuckled, “Just get some rest, love. Even an Alpha King needs his beauty sleep you know.”
I rolled my eyes as she left.
The room was again quiet and I looked around. It was the peace that has been missing among us for a week. I smiled and pulled Anna closer.
A few hours of sleep won’t be bad. I thought. So I gave in to sleep and cherished the peace that we regained.
“You have got to be kidding me!” I jostled awake and looked around. Serenity was standing at the foot of the bed, her arms crossed. “Seriously?!”
“Serenity what the hell?” I groaned, weary of sleep. “What time is it?”
“What time is it?!” she snapped again, “It’s time you tell me what the hell is going on!”
Then I felt someone stir beside me, I turned and saw Anna stirring awake, my arms still around her and her arms over mine. Heck, she was almost on top of me.
“Shit…” I whispered and dropped my head back to my pillow, closing my eyes, thinking of a way to tell her.
“Shit is right!” she snapped, “What the hell Siam?!”
“Serenity shut up…” Aaron groaned behind her.
“I will shut up when someone explains what my brother is doing with my best friend in one bed all snuggled and lovey- dovey!”
“Serenity, I can explain.” Anna says, sitting up.
“You better!” she snaps, “I know I told you to try to get along but this is taking it way too far!” she then waves her arm toward Anna, “Anna, this is Siam, my player of a brother that you have solely sworn never would tap, and Siam…” she paused as if not knowing what to say, “Siam this is Anna, my best friend and long lost sister who you promised me not to touch ever, drunk or not.”
“Serenity you are blowing this out of proportion.” Jake groans.
“So can you just calm down and let other people sleep?” Aaron rolled over and hid his head underneath his pillow.
I looked back at Serenity and my heart broke instantly.
“How could you do this Siam?” she asked, tears forming in her eyes. “You promised…”
“Serenity-“
“You know Anna is the only friend I have who didn’t stick with me to get to any of you guys.” She said. “She actually cares and irritated the hell out of me to prove it!”
“Serenity, calm down, I’m not going anywhere-“
“Until when would that be Anna?” she asked, disappointment resurfacing again. “Until you tapped that and tell the girls back home the Alpha King Experience?”
This time Aaron and Jake snickered.
“That’s a good one.” Jake says.
“Shush up!” Serenity shouted at them.
“What the hell-” Liam burst into the door and saw Anna and me in bed and Serenity going crazy.
Quite frankly, I was lost for words. I knew that I was supposed to be angry by now for talking to Anna like that and shouting at me, her Alpha. But then, I understood what she was feeling. We were the only few she trusts and kept one of the most important things for us from her.
“So the cat’s out the bag?” Liam asked.
“What?” Serenity turned to him, confused.
I rolled my eyes. Way to go Liam. I snapped through our mind link.
“What’s out of the bag?” Serenity snapped again when no one answered.
I sighed and sat up, “Serenity…” I started, “Anna is my mate.”
“What?” she snapped her head back at us.
“She’s my mate.”
“What?” she says again.
“She’s my-“
“I heard the first time and the second time!” she snapped. “What I mean is how? When did you know?”
“When I turned eighteen.” I mumbled, but I knew she heard.
“A week after I shifted.” Anna says as well, “He told me.”
“But you aren’t… you haven’t…” she scrunched her face and shook her head of the thought. Making me chuckle, I knew what was on her mind and I guess Anna did as well cause she turned crimson red in an instant, while the boys chuckled.
“It isn’t funny!” Serenity snapped and we all shut up, she turned back at me, “How could you make your mate wait Siam?” she snapped, “Are those girls that important to you?!”
“What?!” I sat up and turned to Anna, “No, no they aren’t.” I shook my head then turned to Serenity, “No they’re not Serenity, that isn’t it.”
“Then what the hell is it?”
I frowned and looked away, “I just have other priorities right now…”
She doesn’t respond to that. When I looked up at her, I knew she knew why. Then she turned to Anna and shook her head. With that she rushed to the table and grabbed something and dashed out of the room.
“Serenity!” I called out.
“She took the car keys.” Liam ran out after her.
“Shit.” We all struggled out of bed and ran after her. When I reached outside she was already in the car and drove off, Liam barely making it inside the car before she could.
“Shit!” I snapped and ran my hand through my hair. I turned to the guards, “Well? Follow them!”
Then my parents ran out of the other room. “What happened?” Dad asked. “Liam said it was probably just one of your spats or something.”
I looked at him, not knowing what to say, until my mom stepped up.
“She found out?” she asked and I gave a weak nod. She gave a weak smile, “It’s alright. Liam’s with her, she’ll be fine. I told you she wouldn’t take this easily, especially why.”
Then she turned to Anna and smiled at her, this time a genuine on. She walked up to her and hugged her.
“Welcome to the family, love.” She whispered.
“Thank you.” Anna says in almost a whisper.
I watched as the car Serenity was in grew smaller. Then I felt a hand on my shoulder.
“Just give her time to think.” I heard my mom say, “She’s probably over the fact that you hid it from her.”
“I know.” I said. “But I can’t have her blaming herself for something she didn’t do.”
I stood at the glass window overlooking the parking lot of the motel we were in. Liam had sent word that she was just blowing off steam, crying it out of her system, was his exact words.
I sighed and shook my head.
“Siam?”
I turned and look at Anna who was standing behind me, worried. I smiled and reached for her.
“It’s ok, Liam says they’re safe.” I said.
“But she’s mad…” she says, tears were filling her eyes.
“She’s probably at herself.” I said. “She’s smart, she knows what the other priorities I have.”
“But still…” she says, “the only time that I’ve seen her that upset and is when Eric left. That means she’s really hurting now.”
“Let’s just give her time to understand.” I said. “I mean, she’s been in a lot, she woke up with me being the new Alpha, finding out that we’re seeing Eric, the attack and then this…” I shrugged, “She must be having some mix feelings of sort.”
“I just wish she found out in some other way and not like that.” She said, walking up to me resting her head on my chest.
“So did I, love.” I said putting my arms around her. “At least she knows now.”
“I guess…” she says.
I sighed again, “I just wish she comes back soon so we can leave.”
“Why not ask Liam where they are?” she looked up at me.
I rolled my eyes, “Serenity made him promise not to tell.”
She chuckled and shook her head, “So whipped.”
I laughed, “Yeah, she got him trained good.”
Hey, I heard that. Liam responded.
Where are you?
Still here, she hasn’t spoken.
I frowned, and checked the time, it has been two hours.
You think you can persuade her to come back?
I’m not sure man… she’s pretty upset.
I sighed. At least try Liam, tell her the earlier she come home the earlier we’ll be arriving at Eric’s.
I’ll try.
Thanks man.
No problem. He says and then silence.
“You think she’ll be fine when she comes back?” Anna asked. I knew she heard the conversation, she can tap into my mind link after all.
“I hope so.”
“I think she will be.” Anna says, this time with confidence, “You know how she is, she’s happier knowing we are fine. She just has to understand that it isn’t her fault.”
I smiled and remembered my father’s words. He may have had gotten something right after all.
“I think you’re right.” I said and giving her a kiss.
