Chapter 20 THE ATTACK

One night as Kate wanted to go to sleep because she was feeling dizzy, then she had some knocks on the gate and she wondered who that could be at such an odd hour. When she opened the gate for the visitors who claimed they were from Prince. She was hit with the ass of a gun on her side face and fell to the ground. She tried to regain consciousness and fight back but there was little she could do to stop the alert Intruders.

Worst still, they were good at kung Fu as they beat the hell out of her after a series of lashes from her. She tried to dodge their bullets by knocking off their guns skillfully. There were four of them and they didn't come there to kill but to rob only.

One of the guys who was irritated by her beatings almost shot her, but he was stopped by their boss and they finally sprayed tear gas in her eyes which made her oblivious of her surroundings and led to her subconsciousness.

She was badly beaten after all as they approached the house. Richard was aware of everything as his hands shivered to call the cops. He was also attacked and they carted away with lots of valuables. However, Kate left them with serious injuries that couldn't be hidden and they admired her strengths.

They were just lucky because she was dizzy and wasn't fully aware of everything happening. Richard managed to get up from their few punches for being cooperative. He promised to let Prince take it from his salary because he was the one that persuaded Kate to get drunk as they were busy playing.

From that day, Prince started seeing him as a pervert but he didn't have time to look for any new worker at the moment, besides, he loved his dishes so he didn't fire him. Prince considered his reason and forgave him, warning him that such nonsense should never repeat itself again or he would pay severely. Richard swallowed his spit at Prince's threat.

But as you know it, Prince hardly stays at home, so he left again and the bond between the couples become gigantic. However, Kate was still furious about Richard's insistence of her getting drunk that led to the successful armed robbery. She felt her ego was beaten and she couldn't deal with it so she went to Richard to express her anger.

"What if I was killed that night and you survived? I'm sure you'll never forgive yourself because I damn know you didn't send those robbers." Kate shoved him afterwards.

"I could've been fired too, you know. My job was at stake there because of your selfishness." Kate continued in rage as she threw punches that really knocked Richard to the ground.

Richard was no good martial artist so he couldn't win her even if he wanted to. As she was injuring him, some call came through on his phone. That distracted them and Kate realized she had lost her temper. She felt so sorry instantly and quickly apologized after Richard answered the caller.

"It's fine. I understand you're just angry." Richard slightly brushed her hands off him as he went to his room to fend for his wounds.

Kate was very remorseful. She cried afterwards. Richard on the other hand was heartbroken because all the thoughts he had for her was destroyed by her with those punches.

"So if it wasn't for that call, she could've killed me. I must avoid her forever. My only regret is that I told her all my secrets. She could use it against me. I'm dead." Richard thought, looking at the mirror to see all the bruises she gave him.

"Ahhh, that side hurts. Look at how she destroyed my cuteness. What a beast in human form. I wonder who will marry her. Man-beater. This relationship is officially over even if she begs me a thousand times. Men, I can't be in a relationship with a beast." He felt a strong headache during that soliloquy and a stronger headache when she knocked at his door.

"Richard, please... I'm so sorry. I promise to make it up to you. Please forgive me. I didn't mean to hurt you. Please try to understand." Kate said it in the sweetest convincing feminine voice she could.

Her plea almost penetrated his heart but he turned on his music player and increased it to the loudest. She increased her bangings at the door but he still paid her deaf ears. The next day, when they met, their relationship waxed cold and it was very formal.

Deep within them, they wanted to reconnect but they both knew it was hard to forgive and forget what happened. So at that point in time, Richard spent most of the time on phone calls with his relatives, friends and most especially, Mary.
