Chapter 18 Sent her friend to jail
Olivia sat in her chair as she took small sips of the fine wine Luciano ordered. Her eyes moved around the bar, watching as the waitresses moved around serving customers. Her heart was heavy as her eyes fell on the girl she was more than happy to see. She chose this particular bar when Luciano suggested going out with him, and since Pedro agreed to this. She came to the same place Sydney was working.
“So many family members?” I heard Luciano say, and when I moved my attention back to him. I had no words to say to him. He was a fool, just like before. Looking at him, I felt sorry for what was going to happen to his family in the following months. He was supposed to be wary by now. I was only holding myself back knowing his family would suffer painfully…they'd beg for mercy, and I was certain to make sure they died a miserable death. Starting from his mother. She pretended to like me when in reality she hated me.
“My family doesn't live in this country,” I said, smiling at him, and he nodded as he looked around. I wondered how he was feeling after a year. I was certain to make sure Luciano lost everything. It seemed that Garcia loved power and being in control. This deal with Pedro would bring ruins to their doorstep and turn them into beggars. Antonia would suffer and crawl and beg like a street dog when she loses that mighty crown of a queen she wore, Luciano was about to say something when his phone started ringing.
“Ahh…let me answer this… please excuse me,” he said, showing me his phone, but I couldn't care less as I nodded and took my glass. I hoped Pedro finally showed himself. It was enough that he was torturing me with this when I just wanted to rip Luciano apart.
“How dare you!” Suddenly, I heard yelling. I looked to the left and saw two men shouting at a waitress, and it was Sydney.
“You little bitch, do you know how much this costs!” the old-looking man in a blue suit needed to pull Sydney by her hair. I saw as she was dragged down like some ragged doll. She was defenseless as she stood there. The rules as an employee. The customers were always right.
“Lick the floor!'' another one yelled and people got their attention. The rules again. Rich people could do whatever they liked and no one would say anything. The owner wasn't going to say anything either. My blood boiled at the sight of how they were treating her. I couldn't stand it, even if Pedro asked me to stay away from her. I had to cut all ties with everyone I once knew, and we were dear to me and Sydney was that person.
“You little…” The man was about to hit her when I held his hand in midair. Everyone, we're surprised as they looked at me standing there. The man didn't seem to know who held his hand and when he looked up. He wasn't so happy to see a woman, “and who are you… another slut?” he asked sarcastically and tried to get out of my grip. I looked down and saw how Sydney was covering her face with her hands.
“For a man, you shouldn't try to bully a defined woman,” I said more calmly and gripped his hand so tight that his face started turning red from the pain he was going through
“And who do you think you are!” The man attempted to slap me when someone else held his hand, and it was Zane.
“Mind what you do, old man…” Zane said calmly and nodded at me. I let go of the man and rushed to hold Sydney. She was shaking. I didn't waste time as I helped her get up and took her away from there. The only things I held when I left were crashing tables and agonizing screams of men being beaten. I knew Zane would teach those men a lesson.
“Here, drink this,” I said, giving her a bottle of water I took from the car. She was hesitant to take it as she lowered her head even more. I saw so many scars on her neck. Some looked like burns, and nail scars, and my heart ached. What exactly had been happening to her. She wasn't like before. Her eyes were lifeless.
“What…what did you do…now I lost my job…” Sydney mumbled as she shoved the bottle from her face, and it slipped out of my hand. I didn't understand her outburst. I just helped her.
“I…”
“It…it was the only job I could find…to earn enough money… for a lawyer…” she burst out into tears. I tried to calm her down, but she pushed me away. “It's almost a lot for…for her…for her justice” she kept saying and ran off. I stayed there, rooted in place. I didn't know what to do or if to run after her. Was she?
“F…for a lawyer”regaining my wits, my eyes shifted to where Sydney ran off to. What did she mean by saving money for a lawyer?
“You disobeyed me”I was startled when a familiar voice spoke and upon turning around I found Pedro leaning against the car and as usual dressed in all black.
“She's my friend… I couldn't handle it” he said I wasn't supposed to talk to her but seeing her being treated in such a way I couldn't handle it.
“She's naive and reckless…six months in jail did nothing to stop her stubbornness,” Pedro said nonchalantly, and hearing his words I was bothered. What did he mean by jail?
“Jail?”
“Your precious love and his family sent her to jail because she called them out as murderers…” Pedro said, and I was surprised, did those rascals do this to Sydney “it took time for me to bail her out…it seems I'm bound to get you, girls, out of trouble” he added with a lazy yawn. By now I was seeing red. They dared this to Sydney. I was certain that Antonia used her power to ruin Sydney's life.
“What else?” I didn't want to hear more, but I couldn't help it. My poor friend was devastated,
“She got blacklisted from certain institutes of learning…and well, here she is serving horny men,”Pedro said with a chuckle. Did he think this was funny? My friend was ruined and the Garcia family was responsible. Apart from her already horrible family. Sydney had to endure so much which she didn't deserve.
“They will pay… I want all of them to cry blood now…do something I don't care if they die because they deserve it”I couldn't care less even if they died or burned alive. I couldn't stand anything that had to do with them.
“Take it easy…it's best to use their weakness against them…if we rush… I'm afraid mistakes can happen,” Pedro remarked, looking at me as if I were insane. I didn't want Sydney to suffer anymore. She thought I was dead, but I was not. Her friend was alive.
