22.Overwhelming!
Aubrianne Ivanov
'Welcome to Boris Heights.' The sign had said.
After a short juncture, I glance at Daniel as he comes off the main road making a left; he now looks lost in his thoughts, so I just turn back to look out the window.
Daniel drove down to the end of the street, turned right, made a left, and drove straight to the end. The beautiful green with brown highlights, forested area, and a mini park is at the very end.
This street has houses on both sides, but they are spaced out, with plenty of yard space at the front and sides, maybe the back too.
He pulled up in front of a house on the right. High white walls and little decorative concrete blocks in intricate patterns are placed in the middle, strategically spaced along the entire wall, and painted black.
I saw that it had a glossy finish, and a large black gate was also painted in the same black glossy, shiny color.
"We're here," Daniel declared, pressing a button from a key chain, and the gate sprung to life, extending from the middle and retrieving inwards, revealing a beautiful flat. Guess what color?
All white, and there were glass walls that ran from floor to ceiling, a porch in the middle, and stairs with just about four to five steps. Daniel pulls into the driveway and curves right towards the garage.
So beautiful, I whisper. Trim grass littered the lawn and the pathway, but there were concrete tracks for the tires. Such a remarkable landscape.
Daniel parked just outside the garage, looked at me, and said, "Ok, let's get you settled in then."
With my spirits slightly lifted, I was curious and eager to see the inside. You know curiosity always wins.
Smiling a smile that reached my ear, I answered Daniel with a "yes, let's." Then I got out of the SUV, grabbed my handbag, then reached across for our dinner while he grabbed some of my luggage.
"Follow me. I would like to take you through your new home from the front entrance," he said while gesturing to the porch, hands full of luggage.
"Ok," I said and followed him.
When we got to the door, the porch was lovely, with chairs that looked so comfortable and a small table with a vase of flowers. Daniel pulls out a key, unlocking two deadbolts and a door knob with those keyholes. He opens it and pushes the door open wide enough.
He gestures to me, "after you."
I step in, and there is a wall facing me, a vast mirror hanging on said wall encased in a gorgeous molding pattern, with a mid-height table that leans on the wall just below the mirror, which had a fruit bowl on it full of what looked like fresh fruits. I saw apples, pears, grapes, oranges, and a bunch of bananas.
"Oh, sweet," I commented.
To my left, a corridor, and to my right, he directs me into the living area, a significant arched doorway without a door. Two steps down, and I am in the living room. The right is the glass that runs from the floor to ceiling, and then it stops at the point where the dining area starts.
There is a concrete structured molding standing in the center from floor to ceiling, then more glass, and another molding that bends a corner, then more glass. It was an open-plan home.
A beautiful couch set, a medium-sized coffee table with magazines packed neatly, and it has a platter with coffee cups and a mug on it. To the left is a wall with a sixty-inch TV above a fireplace.
I spun to face the direction of the TV as I took in everything, and then to my now left, it was just a wall where a large beautiful painting of a black wolf standing in front of a pack of wolves hung.
"Beautiful," I whispered to no one, apparently, because a quick glance told me Daniel was not there.
Turning back to my right, I moved around, dodging one comfy-looking lush couch, walking towards the dining area, and to the left of the dining area is a gorgeous kitchen, rich decor, and classy vibes, everything in black and white with some hints of stainless steel.
The fridge and the microwave were stainless steel. Glancing around, I absorbed it all.
I had wandered off, completely enthralled by this home. Daniel was now back at my side. He had slipped off somewhere and returned without my luggage.
"Like it?" Looking around, Daniel asks.
"Like? I love it!" I said enthusiastically, grinning like a mad woman.
I took in everything around me. Moving into the kitchen entirely, I saw that the stove and toaster oven were black, white cupboards lined one wall, and then when the wall curved, it went into black and white patterned granite countertops with more cabinets.
The cupboards line the wall up top as well, the very same thing running along another wall, but the cabinets at the top end by the window in the middle where the double sink is next to a black dishwasher.
Then it picks back up again to the very end, where it bends a corner again and stops at the fridge. A small cupboard continues over the refrigerator and connects to the other side of the fridge, counter, and cabinets, moving again. Then there's the stove, and the steam absorber hovers high enough above it.
Over that are more cupboards connected, ending with one full-length cabinet. The middle of the kitchen had the same pattern granite countertop, and a few high chairs were around it. I stepped towards it and finally put down the dinner I clutched in my hands.
"The kitchen is furnished with all that one might need," he says, pulling the door to the pantry, "and the cupboards and refrigerator are stocked."
"Wow, this is more than I expected to be honest." I was astonished.
"Tell me, what were you expecting," He hops on the high chair.
"Honestly, a non-furnished two-bedroom apartment for my roommate and me."
He raised an eyebrow, "really?"
"Yes, really! Mr. Ivan told me the interns share a two-bedroom apartment!"
"Oh!" He says and looks at me like I have two heads.
"Why, what is wrong? Isn't that what takes place?"
"I guess." He shrugged.
"You guess? Huh, Daniel!" I exclaimed. Tiredness was kicking in, and patience was running low. Hence, I gave him a look that said spill.
"We were given specific instructions about this." This is the second time I have heard him recite those words. After observing my wide eyes, he gets off the stool and says, "Hey, come on this way, and don't worry about it."
However, I sighed and simply followed him...then easily got distracted as I thought of my stuff. Where was all my stuff? We made our way back to the front part of the house and walked over to the other side now. Over here, we have two bedrooms. It also had a laundry room.
"Is my stuff here?" I asked curiously as I lagged behind him.
He said, "it's in here, actually. I was now about to show you." Opening another door to the right, he revealed a storage room that housed my stuff, including all my small furniture and bed.
It was nothing compared to the elegant, expensive-looking pieces of furniture that furnish this well-designed home, though I thought that's why it was tucked away in this room, out of sight.
I felt slightly embarrassed and was grateful he didn't notice because he explained, oblivious to that look in my eyes, that it had been stored there when it arrived two days ago.
"Oh, there they are, hiding all the way back here," I said casually.
"I would not say hiding. The home was already fully furnished. However, you can take out any items you choose to decorate." Daniel informed me before directing me out of the storage room and towards my bedroom.
"Ah! I see." Was all I had said, and quietly followed him.
I entered my room and quickly realized it was more significant than the guest room. It had a glass wall from floor to ceiling and a view. I wondered if it was the backyard.
To my right is a king-sized bed with two small bedside tables on either side, lamps adorn the top, a Mac book pro, an iPad, and an iPhone lay on top of the bed. Indeed, all the latest versions.
My already widened eyes widened some more, if possible, and I felt speechless.
I put my handbag down on the bed…..
Is this what the other interns will experience? I kept my mouth shut on my thoughts about that because Daniel was already dodgy on the subject, and I had already decided who I would talk to for answers.
This is really overwhelming...
