Aubrianne Ivanov
"I am so sorry, dad." Aubrianne had looked up at Theo earnestly and said in an attempt to let him know it was ok. Hearing his side and learning about her mother's side, she felt for her father.
Knowing her mother was madly in love with her father and could not stand to see him with another and have their relationship flaunted in her face every time there was any drop-offs or pick-ups type of situation.
"What for sweetie? You did nothing wrong. I just couldn't understand why your mom chose not to tell me," Theo had said.
"Dad?"
"Yes, baby girl."
"I have something to show you," She got up quickly, headed to her room, and grabbed the letter.
She decided to show him the letter her mother had left her. She would tell him about the diary, but she wanted to read it first.
She sat beside him when he scooped her back to cradle style while he read the letter. Then Theo stiffened and sniffled.
She knew it was at her mother's declaration of love for him and that the mate bond was to be respected and a precious thing to be cherished, so she would never come between them in that way.
However, she could not be around the man she loved and watch him have a life with another.
That she made clear she would not do and hoped they understood.
After hearing all that her father had to say about her mother, she realized he needed this closure. Theo had read the letter over and over.
Aubrianne got back up, snapped a picture of the letter to keep on her phone, and told him he could have the letter.
Somehow she knew he was not finished with it yet, and he might not be for a while.
Theo's heart skipped a few beats well in his chest. This was golden. This was like the love of his life's last words. Not directly to him, but he would take it as if it was.
She loved him and confirmed as much, which was all that mattered to him.
Goddess, the woman he was madly in love with, loved him back, so much so she couldn't bare the torture of watching him live a life with another while raising their daughter.
That was supposed to be their life to have together.
Goddess, he still felt she should have told him, but Goddess knew he understood. Imagining it in reverse, what if she had found someone? How would he have reacted? A married man at that!
He could not even be mad at her selfishness in this situation. In his shoes, he could never sit back and watch Athalia with another man raising his child. Goddess, he would burn the place down before that happened.
But reading this letter was everything to Theo. He felt relieved to know that the woman he had been pinning for all these years felt the same way he did.
His heart had broken into pieces back in the college when Aubrianne had explained her mother had died. He had felt like someone was holding his heart in their hand and squeezing it.
Is this how his enemies feel when he squeezes their heart in their chest cavities? He had randomly wondered at the time.
After a long while, Theo looked at Aubrianne with so much love, care, and adoration, "Thank you, sweetie, Goddess, I needed this…I needed this closure."
"Sure, dad, I am happy you are ok." Aubrianne had reassured.
So far, they have spoken about a lot of things. Aubrianne had some questions of her own. She had asked if he loved her mother, and he had answered her.
She wanted to know what he would have done if he had known, and she was relieved at his answer.
They had been chatting quietly for a while, Aubrianne getting to know her dad as he spilled the tea, he had told her about her two brothers, Timothy, twenty, and Tobias, Eighteen, and she was warned that they were spoiled and entitled.
He also spoke of his wife, Christen. He had told her a little about his home and the staff and hinted that he wanted her to move in as soon as she was ready. He said this was the age one would move out, but he had missed so much time with Aubrianne.
He would gladly take her with him if she wanted to leave the house he had provided for her right now.
Aubrianne's heart had melted at his words. Bottomline, he wanted her home with him. She would love that, but not right away. She would like to start small, like a family dinner, first meeting everyone.
When her father had said, "Oh no, a family dinner is not what we are having for you to meet everyone," he was throwing her the biggest coming out party, a grand affair, where she would be introduced to the world as his daughter.
"It would be extravagant. Even the President would attend." Her dad had gushed. Aubrianne had refused, but Theo was not bending on this. "Please allow me this baby girl, please," he had begged, even going so far as to make a sad face, and Aubrianne folded like a house of cards or a cheap suit.
Mr. Thorton was making a sad face at her. Her dad, gosh, this was so surreal.
Nevertheless, he did agree to a dinner to meet his family, the beta family, and the staff. Plus, Theo did not press her on the matter of moving in because he had a particular i-spy couple situated just across the street, lower down.
"Ok, honey, you can take your time, but not too much time now. I would prefer you with me at home," Theo had said to Aubrianne.
"Why did you NOT say anything a year ago?" There, she asked it. It just came tumbling out of her mouth. Aubrianne realized her heart was whole and content.
However, there was one more nagging question that she needed to be answered for peace of mind to reign.
Then, when hearing how much he wanted her close and to move in right away, she just had to know why the delay, to begin with. Now she really did not understand the 'why.'
Theo tensed, and she felt it. He was not dreading the question but secretly wishing it did not come up. Maybe he should have elaborated on it a little in all the mumbo jumbo he was going on about this past hour or two since they had been here.
Theo had even spoken about his businesses in more detail, laying out things for Aubrianne and preparing her.
Surely he could have mentioned something and just ripped the band-aid off, right?
Aubrianne, on the other hand, was thinking that all the things her dad covered, this topic was not raised for her to gain the clarity that she needed, so it looked like she would have to bite the bullet and get it out.
Things were flowing really nicely between them. Aubrianne knew they had a long way to go in getting to know each other's likes and dislikes and little quirks, etc., but she could admit with surety that they were off to a great start.
And so she felt less uncomfortable asking the question. Aubrianne thought she would have had to struggle with asking the question, but no, it just flew out of her mouth as comfortably as ever.
Theo wasted no time in explaining his reasons, looking at a sitting-up Aubrianne.
Aubrianne had suddenly shifted off of him and sat next to him on the couch, a knee bent pointing upward as she rested her head on her hand that was on her knee.
The absence of her was daunting.
Nevertheless, Theo carried on with explaining exactly why he did what he did, giving all his reasoning, including the fact that he wanted her to finish her education because his sons were a disappointment in that area.
Well, not like that. Theo had simply explained that his boys chose a different path than college. The fact that he was adamant that she finished Aubrianne sensed it was more than that.
She had thought, 'Those spoil rich brats.'
With the distraction that this would have brought to her life at such a time, she had thought about it for a long moment. She had stayed silent while she and Leia discussed it.
Aubrianne was not confirming that she would have been distracted. However, she understood where he was coming from, it was her last year of college, and she was down to crunch time, with many projects to complete and exams were around the corner.
Both decided that he had a point.
He had admitted how he felt like it was a mistake, as he was being tortured knowing she existed and couldn't be close to her in that way. Not yet.
Upon hearing her father's words, Aubrianne was beyond relieved that her worst nightmare was not a reality as she had previously thought...
