Crispins POV
I stood in awe as I watched Dieter fighting so effortlessly, I add. He didn't look tired at all, he barely moved when James tried to pounce on him. And James hadn't been able to get one hit on him.
However, there was something in me that thought he was going too easy. Because even though he was getting hit on James, he was still able to walk. And I feel if Dieter really swung a hit, James would be knocked out.
I was thankfully able to calm Carter down and Ben took him and the mates back to whatever they were doing. All except for Rena and Danielle left. Though Rena was glued to my side Danielle stood many feet away.
"Everything okay?" I asked her, looking down to see her twirling her hair. A nervous tick she has.
"I have to tell you something later. When we're alone." Her eyes flicked from mine to Danielle only for a moment but then back to mine. "Nothing bad, I promise. Or at least I don't think it is." I nodded in understanding, knowing I wasn't going to get any more information from her.
"Have you enjoyed yourself this morning?" I asked changing the subject to something more lighthearted.
"Ben wanted to have a bake-off." She huffed out, and I couldn't help the smile on my face as she said that. Rena was a talented baker, so I already knew what the results of that competition would be.
"How did Ben take the loss?"
"Not so good, almost threw a fit." We both laughed and Rena slightly leaned into my arm.
I could feel him before I could see him. His eyes blazed into the spot where we touched. I turned to see Dieter standing there with his eyes glaring, but only for a second. But I saw it. And now I feel incredibly guilty.
But not only that, I saw Danielle glaring our way as well. The touch I understand, but I can't not talk to a member of my pack.
"How can you stand watching this?" Rena asked pulling me from my thoughts.
"Watching what?"
"The fighting. It's so intense." She motioned to the fight happening before us. My eyes lingered on Dieter a bit too long and I pulled my gaze away. "Come outside with me?" Her brown eyes were staring deep into my green. "I'd rather tell you now than later."
I nodded and I reluctantly followed her out of the training center. But not before feeling Dieter's eyes burning a hole into my back.
Once we were outside I saw Rena take a deep breath and fidget with her hair again.
"I found my mate." She blurted out, so very loudly might I add. "It's...the girl you know. Danielle. The scary dude's sister." Well damn.
She went quiet and stared expectantly at me. I guess this is where I saw something now.
"Congratulations."
"That's it?" She questioned, her face filled with confusion.
"What did you want me to say?"
"I'm mean I don't know. It's--it's a girl. I'm not gay." She whispered gay almost as if she was afraid for someone to hear.
"Well, I'm not either. And yet..." My voice trailed off as I looked through the small window on the door and watched Dieter move.
"Your mate? A he? He is in there?" Rena quickly moved to look in the window, her eyes wide with surprise. "Was it that cutie that sat next to you? What's the name...FINNICK? Is it him?" She was now yelling and gripping my arm shaking me.
Finnick was a good-looking wolf, but he was nowhere near as handsome as Dieter. And for her to mention him over Dieter angered William and me.
"No. It is not."
"Then who? Everyone else has mates...except--" She grabbed my body and turned me to her fully. She looked deep in my eyes and I could tell she knew who it was. "The scary wolf? That's your mate. Excuse my language but fuck..."
She sighed and finally let go of me. I just stood there with an amused look on my face. She was more stressed than me, which made me wonder if I should be more worried. I mean yes, I knew he lived days a way. And he is the leader of a big pack, but other than that, there wasn't much else to worry about. Right?
The door swung open and Rena and I jumped out of the way as the alphas walked out. Dieter and Danielle were last and our eyes connected immediately but then they went to Rena who was standing next to me.
"Fucking, Dieter. You went easy on me, but I appreciate you." James said as he clasped Dieter's shoulders.
The unfamiliar feeling of jealousy invaded me as I watched the touch. It was hot and brewing in my chest. If Dieter felt this when he saw Rena touch me, then I understand. I wasn't a violent man...quite the opposite. But seeing James with his hands on my mate's wide, strong shoulders made me want to kill.
James backed away and was oblivious to how heated I was getting. Everyone began walking except for me. Dieter was standing in front of me before I knew it. I lifted my head to look at him, his hazel eyes staring deeply at me. But I noticed a slight twitch of his lip.
"Crispin." His voice rumbled and the way he said my name I don't know it just made me feel so...I don't even know. "Are you okay?"
"Yes, I am fine." I forced a smile on my face that I am sure didn't meet my eyes and began walking. He followed close behind me. His gaze was intense and overwhelming, plus it seemed with every minute we were together the attraction I had toward him only grew.
"Alright lads, go get changed then we are going out!" James yelled with excitement, he was also so joyful.
I turned and gave Dieter one last look before I walked from him toward James' house. Everything in me wanted nothing more than to turn around and go back to him. Rena walked beside me until we reached the house. Once inside I heard screaming and crying.
"I want my daddy! Right now!" Carter's voice was higher than usual as he screamed at the top of his lungs. I had never heard him act like this before.
"I know, he will be here soon!" I could hear how frantic Ben was and I ran through the house to find them.
"I want him now! Tatty wants him now!" I went into the game room where they were and Carter was lying on the floor crying, and rolling around. Ben saw me and relief flooded his face.
"I don't know who Tatty is. I thought it was his bear but--" He stuttered and looked at me with crazy eyes.
Carter noticed I was in the room and he quickly stood to his feet and ran to me. Still crying like he was in pain. I picked him up and he wrapped his arms tightly around my neck.
"Don't leave! Don't leave!" He yelled against my neck and I sighed as I rubbed his back.
Carter wasn't used to being away from me on the weekends, seeing as we spent these days all day together. I had a feeling this would cause trouble in the future, but I didn't think it would have been this bad. But now Carter has extreme separation anxiety when I am away from him for too long. Which meant I would be spending the rest of the night here with Carter. There is no way I'd be able to go out now.
"I'm here. I'm right here." I reassured him and continued to soothe him as he gripped me tightly. I looked to Ben who finally looked relaxed and back to his normal state. "Thanks, Ben. I'll have him the rest of the night."
I walked through the house up to the bedroom we were staying in and sat on the bed, with Carter still attached to me. He wasn't letting me go any time soon. My phone buzzed from a text in my pocket, and Rena walked in at the same time.
"Is he okay?" She asked instantly and sat at the edge of the bed looking at him.
"Yeah, he's just not used to me being gone for so long." I sighed and reached for my phone. "I gotta stay here tonight."
"Oh, do you--do you want me to stay with you? I can keep you company." I know if I asked her, she would but I saw the slight disappointment in her eyes at the idea. She wanted to go out and be with her mate. That's what I wanted too but, duty calls.
"No, no of course not. You go have fun. I think Carter and I need this alone time anyway." I told her and her face lit up with a smile as she went to the bathroom to change.
I finally got the chance to check my phone and messages. I noticed that James had put me into a group chat with the other alphas, every single number was a random number. I had no idea which one could be Dieters. But I wanted to know.
From James: I'll be coming to get everyone soon!"
Unknown Number #1: Tonight is going to be so much fun! Is it forward for me to say I can't wait to see you again? Oh, this is Finnick *winky face*
Unknown Number #2: How is Carter?
Somehow I knew in my gut that was Dieter's number. It made my stomach lurch with nerves and excitement. But it quickly turned to disappointment knowing I won't see him again.
Me: Not too well. He didn't like being away from me for so long. Should have seen Ben, he looked helpless.
Dieter: Should have taken a picture.
Me: I know. Missed opportunity.
Dieter: Does this mean you won't be joining tonight?
Me: No I can't. Carter needs me. But please tell me about all the fun you'd had afterward.
Dieter: There will be no 'fun' if you're not there.
That made my heart jump in my chest and made me feel extremely giddy. I bet I looked like a teenage girl the way I was smiling at my phone. Carter started to stir before I could reply. I sat my phone down and got up from the bed. I laid him down and started to get him ready for a bath.
Rena walked out fully changed, her hair was pulled back and she wore a tight black dress.
"How do I look?" She asked, checking herself in the mirror one last time.
"You look great. Danielle will think so too." Her face lit up like a Christmas tree at the mention of her mate. She finished her final touches, and just in time too because James barged in unannounced.
"Ya'll ready for this!" He started playing that putrid song on his phone and started dancing. He looked ridiculous as he had bright neon sunglasses on. "Also don't worry, I called the nanny and she is on her way!" He said in between dance moves. Really bad dance moves.
But his celebration stopped as he saw I was still in my clothes from before. "Why aren't you dressed?" He asked as he paused the song.
"I'm not going, so you can cancel that nanny."
"What? Why?" He groaned and finally took those ridiculous shades off.
"Carter needs me tonight. I will be staying with him. End of discussion."
"Oh, bossy Crispin. It's my favorite." He teased as his eyes flicked to Rena. "Rena, you look smoking. Glad to see you are still tagging along."
She smiled at the compliment and threw on her shoes quickly, then grabbed her purse.
"Alright, take care of the fort. You're the only one here, so if you hear anyone talking. You gotta kill them." I groaned at James' statement, the idea of killing anyone put me off instantly.
"James..."
"Okay, okay. Just hurt them. Bad enough to where they can't steal my shit."
"I can do that," I said reassuring him and offering up a giant smile back to me.
"Wonderful! See you later, crispy!" They both left the room and closed the door. Goddess, I hated that nickname so much.
I carried Carter to the bath who was still half asleep. Once he was finished and in his pajamas. I took it upon myself to change into some sweats and a T-shirt as well. Seeing as I would not be speaking with anyone else the rest of the night, I can finally relax.
