Chapter 28

Roman and Kat pack everything Reese will need. Kat packs up Reese’s car and Roman packs up his car. “I think we have enough to make her happy for a little while. I can come back and get the rest,” Roman says.

“I will just feel better if she is with us,” Kat says.

Kat wakes Reese up to let her know it’s time to go.

“Sugar, it’s time to leave,” Kat says.

Reese doesn’t say anything. She gets out of bed and slips into some house shoes. She grabs a housecoat and slips into it. She walks out of her apartment silently.

“She feels defeated, Roman,” Kat says.

“We will get her straight,” Roman says.

“I know. I hate to see her so broken,” Kat says.

“Me too, love,” Roman says.

Kat helps Reese to her car. Roman follows them.

“You’re going to love the new house. It is huge. Roman really outdid himself on it,” Kat says.

“Roman has always been good at that. He has a knack for building houses,” Reese says.

“There are plenty of rooms. You will have lots of privacy,” Kat says.

“I don’t want to be in your way,” Reese says.

“Stop that. You won’t be,” Kat says.

Reese looks down and sees her phone flashing in her purse. She pulls it out of her purse to see who called. Thomas had texted her.

*Hey. I wanted to check-in. I hope you feel better. Call when you feel like company*

“Who was it?” Kat asks.

“Thomas. He wanted to make sure I’m still alive,” Reese says.

“Have him come over once we get you settled. I know you need a friend to talk to, “Kat says.

“I got you, Kat,” Reese says.

“That you do,” Kat says.

Reese drifts off into a deep sleep. Every time she closed her eyes last night all she could see was Luca going crazy, beating her, threatening to kill her. The things he did to her she never wanted to speak it out loud. She wanted to forget everything. First, she has to heal.

Kat pulls into the house around the circle drive. Roman pulls in quickly behind them to help Reese if she needed it. Roman gets out of his car and rushes to Reese’s door. He opens it and she gets out on her own.

“I’m fine brother,” she says.

“I will take her to her room, then come back and help get her things,” Kat says.

“No, I got this. Just take care of her,” Roman says.

Kat kisses Roman. “You are too good to me,” Kat says.

Kat walks behind Reese. “Up the stairs and to the left,” Kat says.

“Okay,” Reese says.

“It is a huge guest room with a private bath,” Kat says.

“I can make it on my own,” Reese says.

“I will be up with your bags in a few,” Kat says.

Reese goes up to the guest room. The room is huge with a private bath. There is plenty of room for her to recuperate. She sets her purse down on the nightstand. She thinks for a minute and pulls out her phone.

*Come see me. I’m at Romans. I don’t know the address. You’ll have to get it from Kat*

Reese lies down in the bed and drifts into a deep sleep again. No dreams no bad thoughts of Luca just sleep. When Kat opens the door to bring Reese’s things in she doesn’t even move.

Kat goes down to the kitchen and gets a blood bag for Reese. “I’m going to wake her up and get her to feed,” Kat tells Roman.

“Your phone is buzzing,” Roman tells Kat.

“Check it,” she says.

Roman looks at her phone. Its Thomas.

*Reese text me to come to see her if that’s okay. I need the address*

Roman hesitates. “He better just be a friend. She doesn’t need this,” he says.

*50155 Pepper Lane*

“Who was it?” Kat asks.

“Thomas, wanting our address,” Roman says.

“Well, did you give it to him?” Kat asks.

“Yes, I’m not a complete dick,” Roman says.

“Yeah you are but that’s okay. I still love you,” Kat says.

“What do you think he wants with her?” Roman says.

“Roman, mind your business,” Kat says.

Kat goes up and takes Reese the bag to feed. She sits on the side of the bed while Reese drinks it. “A few more of these and you should be back to normal,” Kat says.

“I feel a lot better already,” Reese says.

“Why don’t you take a shower and put on cleans PJs. You have company coming,” Kat says.

“Thomas?” Reese asks.

“Did you tell Roman?” Reese asks.

“Yes it's Thomas and he is the one that gave him the address,” Kat says.

“Keep him occupied while he is here,” Reese says.

“I plan on it. I have spent the last two weeks going through hell, my plan is to have a night with my husband,” Kat says.

“Good. You two deserve a night. I am sorry I messed up your first night back,” Reese says.

“You did not mess up anything. We should’ve known the way he was acting how this would play out. I wish you would’ve told us what was going on,” Kat says.

“I knew you had a lot going on. I was proud of myself I walked away,” Reese says.

“You did the right thing, Reese,” Kat says.

“You think so?” Reese asks.

“Yeah, now get cleaned up before Thomas gets here,” Kat says.
