Chapter 25: Elevators and Languages.
KIKI.
I walked quickly in my heels, quickly but carefully. The last thing I wanted was to get involved in another fashion crisis this morning when I'm rushing in for my interview. I wasn't late but I preferred to be on the safer side.
“Good morning!” I yelled as I stepped into the shop. I wanted to say hello to Rose before heading for my interview.
The first person I sighted had to be the worker of the year. I looked away, pretending not to see her. I wouldn't waste my precious time on her.
She stopped in front of me, her eyes scrutinizing me making my confidence shrink a little. Just a little cos when I looked at her, stared at her in the eye, I didn't see anything worth it.
Then, she burst into a have of laughter. The type that scorns and throws a person off balance.
“Who borrowed you the skirt you have on?” She asked, still laughing. “Cos I know your broke ass can never afford it." She mocked me again.
I looked down at the skirt, smiling. It wasn't a new skirt. I got home yesterday and decided to prepare for my interview. Miraculously, I found this skirt somewhere in between my clothes. So, I picked it up, washed and ironed it to look this nice.
“Why are you suddenly quiet? Cat got your tongue? Who knows if you stole the money to purchase the skirt.” She laughed again. I just smiled, looking her in the eye.
“My silence doesn't mean I agree with you, Sarah. It simply means that your stupidity has rendered me speechless.” I smiled watching the smirk wiped off her face.
“And you know, you are right. I'm so broke that I can't even pay attention.” I added when I sighted Rose coming. She rushed towards me to pull me into a hug.
“You are crazy!!” She yelled, crossed.
“I might be crazy but crazy is better than stupid." I gave her the perfect comeback.
“Oh my God, I'm so glad you are okay.” She whispered. I smiled watching Sarah stomp off.
“Thanks, Rose,” I whispered back. She let me go, peering at my face.
“You look different.”She mumbled accessing me.
“Hmm.” I hummed.
“Wait a second, you are here for the job? You came back for the job?” She nearly screamed.
I laughed, seeing her this excited for me. "Yeah, I'm here for the job. I pray I get it cos I screwed my chance already " I told her my worries.
She smiled patting my hair. “Of there is anyone that should get that job, it's you Kiki. The spot is open for you. Go get what you deserve.” She whispered soothingly.
Her voice and words made me relax. It felt soothing. I pulled her into another hug before letting her go.
“Thanks, bumble bee.” I chuckled. “I will be back with the good news.” I winked at her.
“And I will be here waiting. Good luck.” She said before o turned around to walk away. I walked towards the elevator. Some of the staff were standing there talking animatedly. I couldn't figure out their topic of discussion until I peeped into the open elevator and saw my soon-to-be boss busy on his phone.
Was this why they were waiting?
I asked myself before getting in, ignoring their shocked gazes and running mouths. Since Giovanni was on the phone, I ignored him and stayed in my lane, the elevator shut.
I stayed quiet taking in his outfit. Like always, the boss was hot. Maybe it was the way all wealthy men were made to look, I didn't know.
The boss was clad in royal blue tailored pants, very white shirts with three buttons left undone, and a matching blazer to go over it. The tie was royal blue polka dots white tie. It was hanging loosely on his neck. And his hair was well combed and gelled to give off this dashing handsome look. I felt like digging my hands into that hair.
“You can take a picture, it will last longer.” He interrupted my line of thoughts and I looked up to stare at him, startled that he had caught me red-handed.
“That looks like something I would say.” I rolled my eyes at him.
“Kiki, you and I speak four languages; English, profanity, sarcasm, and real shit. So, no, it looks like something we can both say.”
“Yeah, right." I rolled my eyes again.
“So, you were checking me out.” He said, smirking widely.
"I'm returning your nose dear, I found it in my business." I hissed.
“It becomes my business when I am the center of attraction.” He winked again.
“Are you always this cocky?” I asked, raising a brow. He shoved his hands into the pockets of his pants and grinned at me.
Fuck, he looked hot!!
“Cocky is my middle name. You look different by the way." He smiled.
“Yeah. For once, I'm in Calisto and I'm not wearing my sales associate official uniform.” I pointed out the difference.
"Must you always answer in such defensive manner?" He questioned, as if fed up of my smart mouthed self and I couldn't help but smirk.
Didn't he hire me because of that same mouth? Well, welcome to my world, dear Mr Giovanni Callisto.
"Yes sir, I just can't help it, its a part of me. I guess you'll just have to accept it, isn't that what you liked in me?" I said, confidently.
"I think I'm starting to hate it, to be very honest." He responded, just before the elevator door opened up and we both stepped out.
"Best of luck, Kiki, even though I don't think you'll need it." He called out, adding a wink before he went the opposite way of mine.
