Chapter 47: Amusements and Confessions.
KIKI.
“So, how was your time with Grace?” I asked Jojo. I had been given a few days off to rest from the trip. When I first returned, all I wanted to do was just eat and sleep. I didn't want to waste my time thinking about what had happened but I still did. In between what I did.
Jojo raised a brow wondering why I was just asking that. I rolled my eyes. He shrugged mumbling “Fine.”
“Oh, common, it has to be more than fine." I insisted, adjusting myself down on the couch. I was sprawled over the couch going over my blog on my old laptop.
“What do you want to hear?” He asked looking up from his book. He was sketching again.
“Everything,” I told him as I picked up the glass of milk on the table. He had made it for me.
“She was fun. She cooked a lot, and took me out with her.” He was starting to get irritated, I could tell. He probably wasn't happy that I'm treating him like a child. He wants to look beyond that in my eyes. And he thinks I treat him that way cos he is autistic.
“Fine, sorry,” I mumbled rolling my eyes. I went on with replying to comments on my blog from my recent posts.
“How was the trip though?” He asked me, Innocent eyes boring into mine. Jojo had no idea that the question he had asked had plunged me to start thinking about the last few days. About things, I didn't want to think about.
“Fine but stressful,” I mumbled not looking at him.
“And your boss?” He asked. Oh my goodness! I almost facepalmed. Now, I was forced to think he was asking this on purpose but the innocent look on his face made me reconsider. My face went crimson but thank God my complexion wasn't the type that made it obvious. I was brown-skinned, chocolatey.
“He is okay.” I tried to mask the edginess in my tone. Thankfully, he didn't notice so I breathed out a sigh of relief.
I went back to what I was doing, occasionally sipping my milk. It was sunny outside so I was dripping with sweat despite the poor air con on. My phone alerted me of a message so I reached for it. It was a text from Rose asking me to meet her at our strip club.
I smiled and quickly shot her an ‘okay.’ I shut my laptop and headed for my room. Jojo looked at me as I walked away to my room but I didn't tell him anything.
Since it was hot, I grabbed a black cotton crop top that exposed my belly button which had the inscription ‘Bad Bitch’ with a heart emoji. I matched this with its matching black fitted mini skirt that stopped a few inches above my knees. I packed my hair into a ponytail, running my hand into it to loosen up the small knots it had gathered. I grabbed a pair of matching flip-flops and clad them on.
I found a small nude sling bag which I put my phone in. I applied some lip gloss and walked out of the room. I pecked JoJo on his forehead and he looked up from what he was doing, accessing my outfit.
“I have to meet Rose,” I told him. He nodded with a smile and I walked out. I must Clara, his only friend at the door. She greeted me and I smiled warmly at her before moving hurriedly in my steps to get to the club. The sun just wasn't friendly today.
“Kiki!” Rose yelled my name as soon as I walked in, waving her hand toward me to get my attention. I grinned and started to make my way toward her. She was quick to pull me into a hug.
“I didn't know you missed me this much," I mumbled as I took my seat. Rose rolled her eyes but I saw the teasing glint in them.
“You have no idea.” She added. She looked good too. Her hair was done in short attractive weaves on her head.
“I miss you so much." She told me and I nodded. I knew she missed me. Rose didn't speak to the other workers except me. “Sarah has gone worse. I guess it's because there is no you to hit her with your daily dose of insults and sarcasm." She told me and I laughed.
“But Kiki, what is it like working for the big boss?” She asked, curious to know.
“Who? Giovanni?” I asked feigning ignorance.
“Wow. She now calls him by his name.” She teased me. I chuckled.
“Strenuous,” I answered her previous question. “He is never satisfied. He wants me at work by 6 AM. He wants me to always get him hot coffee and when it gets warm, he blames me. He asked me to delete all his emails even though he had about a thousand of them. He's always yelling at me, ordering me to his office to do one thing or the other.” I blabbed. Rose leaned back in her seat and occasionally sipped her strawberry juices.
“I helped him finalize a deal. Instead of him being grateful, he yelled at me. He makes me jumpy and then blames me for it.” I stopped talking to catch my breath. “Can you believe he once told me that he would fire me if he comes across just one bug in his office or his things?” I asked her.
But instead of her asking me how so, she just leaned back in her seat and shrugged.
“He is too demanding. He can be friendly. He offered me his coffee once. He is friendly, just too demanding. He doesn't joke with his work.” I added.
“Well, seems like working with him is going smoothly.” She said so casually as she took a sip of her juice.
“What?” My eyes widened. “How can you say that? Didn't you hear all I said?” I asked her.
“You are not mad, Kiki.” She smiled pointing out. “ You are just amused.” She hinted, laughing.
“Sam was worse yet you always end up being mad at him but here, you are amused.” She pointed out, buttressing her point. I leaned back in my seat looking at her.
Then, as if deciding to put an end to this discussion, I leaned toward her. “You know Rose,” I began with a smile wild on my face. “I think I might like my boss.”
I confessed.
