96: Coffee and new replacements.
KIKI.
It had been two weeks already since I had tendered my resignation and I had been told that I needed to be here till they get a replacement. But then, nothing seemed to be showing up, they didn’t didn’t seem like they were doing anything about any replacements afterall.
The last straw was when I had asked Matteo the previous afternoon after work about it and his response was, “replacement? What replacement are you talking about?”
Uh? What?
That’s was just enough to prove to me that these people had just put me on a freaking pedestal and had not planned on getting any replacement anytime soon and I knew immediately that Giovanni was the brain behind the whole scope but if he thinks he's the only smart one here them, he’s had it all wrong.
I’m definitely not going to give him that satisfaction at all.
I had tried very hard to make sure that I didn’t have any reason to speak or chat with him than necessary these past few days no matter how hard he had tried to say he wants to apologize or speak to me. Whenever the conversation was deviating away from professional or work issues, I always cut it all off immediately and find my way out of the space.
I didn’t want to give him any benefit of doubt at all, not that he even deserved it in the very first place.
I walked into the work space this morning with a whole new attitude and as soon as ‘my boss’ called for his usual morning coffee, I walked into his office immediately and presented the liquid to him, I then left immediately. I had not even taken my seat back when my name was roared and I smirked knowingly before rushing back into his office looking so innocent like I hadn’t expected him he had just done.
“Yes sir, what is it? What’s wrong?” I asked as I feigned naveity and concern towards my obvious cranky and pissed up boss, but deep down, I was laughing hysterically at his reaction.
“What the hell is this bullshit?” He asked, irritated.
I continued to feign my innocent and naïve look as I stared at him in fake confusion, “what are you talking about, sir? What bullshit?” I asked further.
“This! This! This coffee or whatever it is, Kiki! That is the bullshit that I am talking about and you know it!” He snapped.
“Is there anything wrong with it sir? I don’t get it.” I stood my ground on my acting, I probably deserve an Oscar award at this point.
“Are you kidding me right now? This isn’t what I drink and you know it! This isn’t even from the place I like to get my drinks from, what on earth is this? You know that my taste bud detects stupid and cheap coffee and this is totally one of them! You have gotten me drinks for months and you’re acting like this isn’t something so different from what I usually have!” He snapped and then I just rolled my eyes at his drama queen reactions.
“Well, you have to drink it like that, Mr. Callisto. There’s nothing that I can do about it, we need to learn that we can’t always have things our way sometimes, maybe this is one of those lessons.” I replied nonchalantly as I walked out of his office, knowing fully well that his mouth was probably hung open as he stared at me in a speechless manner while I walked out of his office.
That’s right, Giovanni. It’s my turn to frustrate you till you decide to get that replacement or possibly fire me off this job, that’s just the tip of an iceberg.
As soon as I was at my space, I bursted out laughing as I kept reminiscing the look on his face eat what I had just done, he had not expected that from me at all, it was like he had seen a ghost or some mystical creation that he was convinced didn’t exist. It’s hilarious.
I knew I had to do more and immediately I got a text message from Luca just like I get them these past days, I didn’t turn it down like I usually did. He had asked me out for lunch as usual and I accepted. I didn’t do lunch most of the time because I didn’t really see the need to, I ate snacks by my table a lot of times instead, it seems to work out quite fine.
At the lunch, Luca kept talking about his feelings for me and the usual talk of wanting me to come work with him and all that, an offer I was not ready to take even if I was resigning from Callisto. It just wasn’t ideal no matter what.
I would never do that to the Callisto brand, for any reason at all. I’ve worked there for years and it just wasn’t in my character to turn around and just decide to go against them.
When I got back from lunch, Giovanni called me to his office immediately and the angry look on his face as I stepped in was proof that I had succeeded yet again in getting on his toes, all in one day.
“Yes? Sir?” I said as soon as I was in.
“Where have you been for the past hour, Kiki?” He asked, as he swiveled around in his chair.
I patted my now down afro hair before speaking, “out for lunch sir?” I answered, like it was the most obvious thing.
“Out for lunch? You never go for lunch, kiki, never! What changed?”
“Well, nothing changed sir. I just decided to start using every of my free time as judiciously as I am supposed to, I don’t think that’s something that I should be here explaining to you or anything sir, it's my right to have that break. The fact that I used to skip it before doesn’t mean that I can’t decide to just utilize it now.” I explained in a ‘duh’ tone. One that he obviously caught.
Giovanni was very smart afterall.
“Oh really? How come your hair is down after the said lunch even though it was in ponytails all day? Infact, it’s usually in ponytails, did you need to let your hair down just to have lunch?” He questioned further, looking suspicious and unnerved while I smirked.
Of course, he notices. Just the same way I notice every little detail about him too. It’s mutual.
“Well, I don’t think I owe you any explanation, Mr Callisto. I’m your executive assistant, not your spouse. So if I may leave now.” I said as I immediately turned on my heels and walked out of the room without giving him the chance to even speak further.
Matteo ended up giving me a ride home after work that day and I spoke to him again about the replacement, when he kept feigning ignorance as usual, I had to call him out on his bullshit as I even told him that he had better gotten one tomorrow or I’d end up doing things they both wouldn’t expect the next day.
When I showed up to work the next morning, Matteo emerged with a new lady beside him, she was a blonde blue eyes and slim lady who seemed quite nice, I winked at Matteo as I joined them both in walking to Giovanni’s office, wanting to see the look on his face when he realizes that his plan had backfired on him.
“Yes? What is it, Kiki?” He asked in an irritated tone as soon as he sighted my presence.
“I’m here to let you know that I’ll be leaving now sir, we now have a new replacement.”
