“Enjoyed your jaunt to New York or there are still some places left?”
Damien rasped and looked at Emmaline who was silently fuming. His mordant tone was enough to char her. She curled her fingers in a tight fist, her nails carved crescent-shaped blood moons on her palms.
‘The cheek of this man.’
‘He isn’t even afraid of getting caught rather is shamelessly admitting that it was all his deeds.’
Incensed, Emmaline jumped to her feet and pushed Damien back, “Making fun of someone’s plight? Is this the propriety of such a high-profile man like you?” She spoke in an acrimonious tone but Damien continued smirking. He was enjoying her fuming like an inferno.
“Well, my propriety advised me to help a poor teen who has been left out in the cold because she burnt her bridges by squandering all her money, kicked her esteemed job, and is now begging on the streets to earn a few bucks.”
His words added insult to her injury. Emmaline swatted her hands that were holding the umbrella and spat, “So, I was right. You indeed had put up a show at that time. A fucking lunatic like you would even plan revenge from his grave. I underestimated you.”
Damien’s gaze darkened. Walking forward, he cupped her chin and glared straight into her blue eyes, “Yes you fucking did. What had you thought that I would easily let you off the hook? You slapped me, Princess. I would have fucking cut your hand but what’s the fun in that? Watching your culprit suffering is much more gratifying than killing him.” He spoke and left her face with a jerk.
Damien continued ridiculing her, “Yes, I planned everything but you know what’s the best part, Princess? That even after knowing everything, you won’t be able to harm a single hair of mine. I allowed you to save your ass but you decided to bite off more than you can chew. It’s so entertaining to watch you running all around the city in search of a job. That’s your punishment for kicking a golden opportunity.”
Emmaline’s eyes watered. After such a long time, she showed her tears to someone. However, Damien couldn’t make out the difference due to the heavy downpour which was soaking their faces.
His gaze momentarily dropped to her pink lips as she mercilessly chewed them. She was trying hard to control her emotions but failed as his words were a harsh reality check for her. Power and money indeed supplant morals and dignity. Emmaline knew that she could easily expose him but would anyone believe her? Neither does she has proof of her innocence nor had stored jewels to seal the lips of bastions of justice.
Indifferent to her troubles, Damien was busy checking her out. Her blouse was completely drenched and had stuck on her body like a second skin. Her skirt was hugging her waist perfectly, he could easily make out the outline of her hips and curves. And the sight of her creamy, long, and smooth legs compelled him to caress them.
The Alpha was drowned in his sinful thoughts but his eyes widened when the realization struck him.
‘The fuck is wrong with me. I am getting hard for a teen. Darn me.’
His jaw clenched. He was well aware of the fact that Emma was a wolf but still, she was underage. It was iniquity and he wasn’t that fuck up too to fall for a child.
Clearing his throat, Damien shifted his eyes back to Emma who was already looking at him with fiery eyes.
“Alright, let’s get down to the brass tacks. The offer is still open for you. Get back to Knight Corporation and resume your job. I assure you that no one would say a word to you and we’ll behave as if nothing happened. I also promise you that I wouldn’t bother you again and keep our relationship professional.”
He spoke but bit his tongue by the end. Damien also had no idea as to why he suddenly started comforting her. Perhaps he wanted to clear his mind off her and felt a tinge of pity for the poor child.
“No”
Her sudden response took him off guard, “What?”
Damien couldn’t believe his ears. He looked at Emma incredulously but her expressions were collected and her gaze was stern.
Anger and indignation grew on him.
‘She still doesn’t want me. Who the fuck does she think she is?’
Damien threw her a stern look and grabbed her arm in a vice grip, “Don’t be a fool, Emmaline. You are still a kid. You will never be able to compete against me. I am not telling you to get laid idiot, I just want you to “
*PANG*
His face was instantly turned to the right as Emmaline slapped him hard. Damien turned his head and looked at her in shock.
“I again slapped you. Go ahead, ruin my life. I also want to see to what extent you can go to fulfill your sadistic desire.” She snapped at him.
Crossing her hands over her breasts, she let out a chuckle before looking into his smoldering grey eyes, “Get laid? Oh please, you aren’t that appealing to me. You are just one sick man who gets happiness in destroying people’s life and walking over their dignity. I have understood you well but it’s time for you to understand who the hell I am.”
Emmaline sneered and strutted to him closer while he kept watching her silently, “I am someone who had never heard of dropping weapons before tasting victory. Don’t mistake me as your side chick who would sleep my way to the top. Yes, I am poor but not weak. Yes, I don’t have money but have a talent that you can never afford. Yes, I don’t have the power to overthrow you but have the guts to fight you. Yes, you have snatched the job opportunities from me but my brain and my willpower are still intact and are in good shape. And I guarantee you I will make good use of it.” She affirmed.
They both kept shooting daggers at each other. A frown settled on her brows when Damien suddenly burst into cackles.
He raised his hands in the air and scoffed, “You got me, Princess. I am too scared now. Where should I hide? Is there any rabbit hole? I need to hide before this wolf devours me.”
He spoke in a mocking tone but Emmaline froze on spot. The sly look on his face made her jumpy.
‘Does he know the truth?’
Scared, she tried to move back but Damien suddenly coiled his hand around her waist and pulled her towards himself. Emmaline was startled. She grabbed his shoulders but her heart jolted when a zap of current surged through her whole being.
“W-What are you doing? Leave me”, she started to thrash in his hold. Sparks ran all over her body and she couldn’t decipher the reason.
Enjoying her nervousness, Damien tightened his hold further and ducked forward which made her flinch back.
“What happened kitten? Why did you turn so frenetic after my response? Perhaps the term ‘wolf’ didn’t settle well with you. Let’s rephrase it then.”
Emmaline peeked at him. Her breathing turned shallow but she needed to keep calm. Steadying her expression, she looked at Damien and was about to retaliate but he suddenly leaned to her ear and whispered.
“How about were.”
But before he could complete it, Emmaline gave a hard push on his chest and yelled, “Conduct yourself Mr. Knight or I would call the police.”
To her surprise, Damien released her. Emmaline quickly moved back and without sparing him another glance, turned her heels to leave.
“THREE DAYS PRINCESS”
Her steps halted.
Pivoting, she looked at him and scowled, “What do you by three days?”
Damien dipped his hands in the pocket of his tailored pants and said, “I am sparing you for three days. You can do whatever you want to but I guarantee you that you wouldn’t be able to get a job in the whole of New York. I will come after three days to take you back. And Princess, this time you would come to me willingly.”
Emmaline was stunned. Her body trembled with the determination shining in his eyes.
Damien then around and sashayed to his Mercedes with a complement smirk on his lips. Emmaline watched him as he slipped into his car and drove off.
His words heralded a sign of danger.
“He can’t force me to work for him. I have cut all ties with Knight Corporation.” She muttered under her breath as she watched the car slowly vanish from her sight.
“Keep your head straight Emma. That buffoon was only trying to scare me. I need to keep looking for jobs.”
With that thought in mind, she veered to the left and headed to her next destination.
