Chapter 46
Entering the room, Damien strolled toward the king-size bed while carrying his spitfire in his muscular arms. Very cautiously, he placed Emmaline on the mattress and slowly stood up to his mighty height. He gazed down at her small crumbled form.
Sadness oozed from her as she made no effort to mask her pain. She wasn’t crying but wasn’t even saying anything anymore. Like a broken doll, Emmaline was staring at her lap lifelessly as if it was the most exquisite thing.
An uneasy feeling settled in his chest. Damien looked away in annoyance when regret hit him hard. He wasn’t guilty of his actions, in fact, he was satisfied but Emmaline’s crestfallen face, gloomy eyes, and paled lips were making his heart bleed.
No one spoke a word. Emmaline kept quiet as she didn’t want to see his face and Damien was failing to find words to console her so he kept mum.
Once his patience ran out, he raked his hand over his hair, ruffling them before speaking sternly, “I am sending your lunch. Make sure to finish everything before I return or else-”
“I will get one from you.”
Damien froze on the spot as she spat, her voice laced with venom. His eyes broadened to the size of saucers as he instantly darted his eyes at her who was already staring at him. Her gaze was chilling and her expression was grim. She was mad.
“What?”
Damien kept looking at her confused but Emmaline remained silent cause she knew her words had triggered him.
Plopping on the bed with a thud, Damien grabbed her left forearm and yanked her closer, “WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU SAY?” He inquired, his eyes shooting daggers at her.
“You heard me, Mr. Knight,” Emmaline replied curtly, “I don’t think you have that poor hearing as you came to save me when I never called you in the first place.” She couldn’t hold back the bitterness.
Anger swarmed in his grey pools as he roughly cupped her chin with his calloused hand and growled lowly near her lips, “You’re right Princess, you fucking have no idea in which shit you were about to throw yourself into. You can hate me all you want but I love you and I wouldn’t let you act recklessly just because of your stupid hate game.”
Emmaline matched his heated gaze head-on, “Yeah you love to show your dominance over me. After all, who am I? A weak, pathetic, jobless, and helpless orphan.” She retorted and let out a scoff. “I should be obliged to you for choosing me. The prince finally saved his Cinderella and brought her to his golden cage. I should be on my knees, ready to please you, and accept all your commands. After all, you dragged me out of the slum and placed me in your castle.”
“THE HELL ARE YOU SAYING!!!”
Damien shouted and pushed her back making her head incline to her left. Grunting, Emmaline removed the hair strands that covered her face before turning to look at him. She wasn’t surprised to see the hurt flashing in his eyes. Instead, it exulted her.
Emmaline straightened up her spine as she flipped her back before letting out a mocking chuckle, “Why are you getting so offended? Isn’t that you wanted to ingrain in my mind that I belong to you? That I should know my limits and shouldn’t defy you. Accept your slavery with no ifs and buts or else there will be dire consequences. You took my job just because I slapped you and didn’t let you fuck me. You turned me penniless just because I refused to apologize to you when you knew it was your fault. Because of you, I faced humiliation at my university and my home. Accept it, Damien, you love to ride roughshod over me. And when you saw that I got a good job and made a friend, you turned into the monster that you really are.”
“HE WASN’T YOUR FRIEND”, Damien shot back, “He was a cheater who was taking advantage of your naivety.”
Slamming his palms on the wall beside her head, he loomed over her, “I agree I am an asshole but he isn’t a saint either. He is a liar who trapped your innocent mind just to steal everything you have.”
Emmaline was taken aback by his words but still, kept her expression neutral, “The only person who has taken advantage of me is you. Others might be blind but I have seen your true colors so you don’t have to put this charade in front of me.”
“DAMN IT EMMA” Damien suddenly shouted making her flinch back, “Stop thinking of him as goody-two-shoes. You’re just narrating what he had shown you but I know what was really going on behind those four walls.” He raged and cupped her chin as he leveled his gaze at her.
“Tell me why David easily approved of this fucking engagement when he was completely against it earlier?”
Emmaline answered while looking straight into his eyes, “because he and his wife loved me as their daughter.” She answered confidently but her brows furrowed when Damien started chortling.
Her jaw ticked, “What’s so funny, idiot?”
Damien looked at her amusingly, “because you’re so lovesick that you failed to see people’s real faces.”
His words pierced her heart. Her eyes turned moist but she pushed her tears back,
“HOW DARE YOU!!” growling, she slapped his hands away and raised her hand to slap him which Damien caught in the air.
“Not this time,” he gritted and pushed her onto the bed. Pinning her hands above her head, he hovered over her and grabbed her small face in his right hand.
Emmaline was startled. Her struggles amplified when she noticed their position. She raised her leg to kick him in the groin only to grunt in pain as Damien ceased her struggles by putting his entire weight on her.
“Leave motherfuck-mmpff” her words left hanging as he squeezed her cheeks forcing her lips to form a cute pout.
Damien leaned forward and pecked her pout instantly stilling her, “Curse me one more time and I would fucking devour these cherry plumps.” He snarled near her lips and again leaned forward, kissing her wagging chin.
Emmaline squeezed her eyes shut. The same electric waves that gratified her the day he kissed her spread through her like wildfire. Emmaline hated to admit but his touch did provide her immense pleasure.
Damien smirked at her flustered face. She knew that no matter how hard she try she couldn’t deny the fact that her body craves his touch.
Emmaline slowly opened her eyes and Damien wasn’t shocked to see the desire glowing in them. Her golden hues contrasted well against his red ones. She wanted him but would never say that. And he didn’t need her to say that as he could easily read her mind.
Cupping her left cheek, Damien pecked the tip of her nose before gazing at her intensely, “I am sorry love but I beg you for once hear me out. I know I have made you cry, hurt you, and snatched everything from you and I am so fucking sorry for it. If I had the power, I would revert things to normal but I just can’t do that.” He spoke earnestly while caressing her cheekbone with his thumb.
“You can do that. Just leave me and-”
“Leave you to die? No, I would never do that.” Damien cut her off by placing his index finger on her plump lips.
Heaving a deep sigh, he got off her. He then grabbed her shoulders and made her sit on the bed. Emmaline didn’t resist and continued staring at him with firm eyes.
Grabbing her small face in both of his hands, he pecked her forehead gently and pulled off before looking at her softly, “Your hatred and anger at me are justified and I am willing to do anything to earn your forgiveness. But first-“
“Just straight come to the point. Don’t waste my time.” Emmaline rebuffed and slapped his hands away.
Damien clenched his jaw; his stubborn kitten was still stuck on defying him.
“All right, that’s what you want. Fuck it then.”
Growling, he punched the mattress and jumped off the bed. Dipping his hands in the pocket of his trousers, he glowered down at his Luna, “Olivia saw you jumping from the third floor and the boundary wall when you were escaping her house. Your uncontrollable rage and temper worked well in revealing your secret.”
Damien sneered making her jaw drop.
“What?” Emmaline whispered but immediately masked her fear with an annoyed look. Getting off the bed, she threw him a glare and snapped at him, “I don’t believe you. If she saw me then she would have fainted or worse, rat me out to Matteo or David.”
Damien let out a dry chuckle, “Of course, she did that’s why the Stefanini couple came up with a wonderful plan to trap you.”
His pitch dropped an octave as he stepped closer to her. Dread crept inside her as she quickly try to move back but Damien snaked his hand around her waist and flushed her to his chest.
“Stefanini gave the green light to this damn marriage because he wanted to research you. He and his wife want to know who you really are and your fucking Matteo is even involved in it.”
He asserted leaving her shell-shocked.
