Chapter 45 : Painful Misunderstandings 2
Selene
If the outside of the house was gloomy, the inside was even worse. How this woman, who lived alone and was a princess, could live and survive here was another mystery. Selene had a bad feeling about this place and the woman still clinging to Mike's arm. Jealousy, however, made her ignore her instincts and focus only on the back of the couple.
Amy led them into a room lit by a dull lamp on a low table. The chairs were old and dirty, moth-eaten, and the room smelled of mold. Samuel ignored the politeness and covered his nose with the sleeve of his robe as he entered the small room.
They sat around a low table, Amy clinging to Mike, while Selene and Samuel sat across from them. Mike noticed Selene's piercing gaze and swallowed guiltily before turning to the woman, smiling hesitantly and asking, "So why are you here alone in a place like this? A cough from Selene made him hastily continue, "Ah, yes. My friends here are Selene and Samuel, Princess." Then he laughed nervously.
Amy nodded at them in thanks before returning her gaze to Mike.
"Oh, those rogues with the black witch killed everyone! This place used to be alive. The only one the witches didn't kill was my older brother, who was away. He returned yesterday, but left again, claiming to find and kill the rogues. He hasn't returned yet and I'm very worried about him," she said tearfully, her words faltering as grief overcame her.
"There, there, princess," Mike patted her shoulder, reassuring her. Then he took her hand in his and looked deeply into her sad eyes. "I want to help you, but I ask one thing of you, beautiful princess."
As Amy told the tragic story of her family being slaughtered by rogues and witches, Mike tried to offer support and comfort. But Selene thought to herself, "Why is she so intimate with Mike?"
Amy's eyes glistened up at Mike, her expression so sweet and beautiful to Mike, and her lips so full and luscious that he couldn't help but watch her as she spoke. "Oh, please tell me. I'll do anything to be safe again." She moved closer, her free hand resting innocently on his thigh, making his throat dry up.
"Will you be the mother of my offspring?" he asked.
Hearing this, Selene stood up from her seat, enraged by the looks and words he threw at every pretty girl, including her, and smacked him on the side of the head. Silently raging, her eyes were like daggers as she glared at him hatefully.
Meanwhile, Amy stared at him with wide eyes before trying to calm the injured man down.
"Ouch! Selene!" Mike yelled, then froze at the cold look on her face as he began to sweat profusely. Without a word, she sat back down, her eyes never leaving his, scaring him even more. A tug on his arm made him turn his head hesitantly toward Amy, while still trying to keep his eyes on Selene, even though he knew he deserved her wrath.
"Yes, Princess?" he asked politely.
"My brother's still not back," Amy whispered, fear in her big brown eyes.
Puffing out his chest, Mike patted her hand reassuringly and replied, "Don't worry, my dear. Everything will be all right. I'll find the rogue and bring your brother back to you safely." A confident smile accompanied his gallant words.
"Oh, but you can't," Amy cried, hugging him anxiously.
Wrapping a comforting arm around her slender shoulders, Mike pulled her close to his strong body, savoring the soft curves of her body against his chest, ignoring Selene's deadly gaze. "You need not worry about my safety, Princess. I have defeated many rogues and evil witches over the years."
"But you don't understand," Amy pleaded with her, "these rogues and witches hate the Warrior Pack and will definitely kill you."
Samuel, also unhappy with the situation, tried to be sensible. "Of course he would hate Mike if those rogues were afraid of his abilities."
The princess glanced at the man before turning her attention back to Mike. "Wait till I tell you the story of the witch. She was actually a beautiful woman, as the story goes. She had fallen in love with a group of wandering warriors who also fell in love with her, but only for a short time before his desire faded. He tried to leave her, but she followed him all the way to the territory of the Blood Moon Pack, where the man had ordered a friend to lead him through the pack and not wait for the woman who was quickly following him. Enraged, she threw herself into the pack, stalking the man, and her rage turned her into a giant wolf. The wolf opened its huge mouth and a fire burst out and engulfed the entire pack, killing the men and the pack of warriors."
" Man, that's intense," Samuel said, his eyes wide. "You can't really blame her. I mean, the guy used it before he threw it away." Then he grinned wickedly, his eyes boring into Mike, who recoiled at the sight. "Be careful, Mike. This guy looks a lot like you."
Coughing nervously, Mike said, "I'm not sure I know what you mean, Sam." Then he turned back to Amy, leaned in closer and whispered affectionately, "No matter how you feel about the warrior pack, Princess, I will protect you." He felt nothing for this woman but appreciation for her beauty, but he could not resist teasing her again.
Selene was irritated by his constant flirting with her, feeling very unworthy compared to such a beautiful woman. She looked away and rubbed her left arm sadly. She might not be the most beautiful or graceful woman out there, but she certainly meant more to Mike than just an ideal woman. Mike wouldn't leave her like the man in Amy's story, would he? Looking back at the happy couple, the seed of doubt planted long ago by Mike, who continued to act womanizing even after his words of love to her, grew even larger in her chest.
"No, you can't go!" wailed Amy. "You'll definitely get killed."
Mike looked up at her upturned face, saw the worry clearly etched on her delicate features, felt her body tremble with fear for him, and his manly pride swelled at the sight of such devotion swimming in the dark pool of his eyes. "Princess Amy..." Mike started, trying to make her understand that he wouldn't just fall for any vengeful witch or rogue, but Selene's voice sounded higher than his, making him pause and turn his head to stare at her beautiful and familiar face.
"I will take care of these rogues and witches, Princess Amy. You have nothing to worry about," she said, starting with a strong voice before it finally faded and she turned her face away, unable to look at Mike, deeply hurt by his callous actions. All she could think of was to get away from him, to think and maybe cry alone. She refused to let Mike see her crying over him, the arrogant man that he was.
She had gotten up to leave when Samuel suddenly said, "Um, guys? I'm hungry. Is there any food around here?" Samuel looked around hesitantly, wondering if there was anything to eat in a place like this.
"Oh, right! I'm sorry! Where are my manners? Yes, there is some food left by my brother. I'll go prepare a cold meal for all of you. You must be tired after your journey," Amy babbled, rising gracefully from her position beside Mike and heading for the door.
