Chapter 51 : Xavier's Desire
Xavier
She blushed at the deep, dark sound of his voice as the memories of last night flooded back into her mind and turned her face away from the window, refusing to look at his reflection in the mirror.
"Yeah," Karen could only mumble from her suddenly dry throat. Swallowing, she forced herself to continue. "I'd like you to leave."
There, she had said it. Karen couldn't think clearly when she was around him. His presence demanded too much of her attention.
He simply asked, "Why?" His eyes were fixed on her back and her shining hair, but he was still confused by her attitude towards him.
When she remained silent, Xavier continued, "I can feel some of your aura and wolf energy, but it is still weak. It is time for us to bond."
He was very proud and happy to feel the progress of their efforts. Soon, he would be able to have her as his mate and have strong pups in the future. His body hardened at the thought of how he would take her with his child. But why didn't she look at him now?
Karen was silent for a moment, digesting his words and paying more attention to her aura. Once a pure energy, now she could feel that it was tainted with black in some places, which made her frown. It was an unpleasant feeling, this black energy flowing through her spiritual energy.
Maybe she should have been worried that something was wrong with the situation of a wolf hybrid descended from a human priestess who carried the powerful dark energy of a wolf within her. However, she was too upset about her situation with Xavier to have any thoughts about that.
"There is no need for that, Xavier. You have already reached your goal. The power of your aura in me is now in my aura, no matter how small it is. And besides, I have healed well. I'll be fine the way I am now." To be honest, she did not want to be so close to Xavier because she was afraid of her reaction to him. She had already betrayed Rylan once and it would kill her if she did it again.
"Karen..." He started to say with a frown when there was a knock at the door.
Impatient, Xavier motioned for his servant to enter and spoke quickly.
"Excuse me, Alpha. The Alpha of the Bloodmoon Pack, Alpha Chase, is here to see you," the male servant said with a deep bow.
He gritted his teeth. Obviously something was bothering his mate, but it seemed that Xavier hadn't had time to find out the answer to his question. He waved his hand in a dismissive gesture and the servant bowed again and left.
"We'll talk later, Karenina," he told her before leaving the room, although he didn't want to leave. There seemed to be too many misunderstandings between them than he thought before he entered her room.
Xavier met the arrogant yet grumpy Alpha of the Bloodmoon Pack, Chase Goldstein, who came from a tribe of fierce pureblood wolves, at the front entrance of his main hall. Chase stood resplendent in his ornate outfit of gold, orange, and red silk, with a long and a short sword at his left hip. Chase wears his pack mark proudly above his left eye, a four-pointed star that points down and across the eye before stopping at his high cheekbones in bright yellow. His long, thick, wavy hair is a bright yellow and falls to the middle of his shoulders. His eyes were also rich gold with a sharp intelligence, but Xavier could detect worry in his gaze.
"Alpha Chase, your visit is surprising," Xavier greeted with a slight rebuke for his unexpected appearance. It was too early for his message to reach the Alpha of the Bloodmoon Pack when he had written to all the high-ranking Alphas and Luna about the postponement of his mating ceremony.
Chase bowed over his shoulder, mimicking a respectful greeting. "I apologize for not informing you in advance of my intention to see you, Alpha Xavier, but there is an important matter I must discuss with you."
Xavier raised his thick black eyebrows in question.
The Alpha of the Bloodmoon Pack looked even more menacing without changing his stance as he quietly asked, "Where is my daughter?"
Immediately. Xavier knew what was making this Alpha so angry. He remembered that the daughter of the Alpha of the Bloodmoon Pack was one of the many candidates who were fighting for the position to be his mate. "Come, we will talk further in my study." Then he turned, expecting the other Alpha to follow. There was no need for unwanted ears to overhear their conversation, and Chase must have come to the same conclusion, because he followed without a word.
When he was seated behind his desk and his unexpected guest sat across from him, Xavier took a breath to speak but was cut off.
"I conclude that she is the winner in your hunt for the right mate because she hasn't returned to our pack house, so I can understand why she wants to stay here, but of course you could send me a letter to inform me of this fact," the Alpha of the Bloodmoon Pack told him with a stern look.
Xavier didn't like being treated like a silent puppy, but he remained calm and didn't show his irritation. He didn't want to waste time talking to Chase when he had more important things to do with Karenina.
"I'm sorry to inform you that there is not a pure-blooded she-wolf that has proven to be the winner of my hunt to become my mate," he replied confidently.
Xavier then saw the man blink, then blink again before turning his face away, but not before Xavier caught a glimpse of turmoil swirling in his yellow eyes. "She can't be dead," he said firmly.
"I didn't say she was dead," he said matter-of-factly.
"I have to find her. Good day, Alpha Xavier." Chase rose and was about to turn and leave when Xavier's next words made him stop and turn back to Alpha Westwood.
"Maybe she's still in my territory, recovering from the fight. I'm going to send out a search team for her. You can wait here while the search continues."
Chase finally nodded gruffly.
Xavier motioned to a man who had been placed in the corner of his office and ordered him to take the Alpha of the Bloodmoon Pack to one of the guest rooms in the hall of the Pack House. He began to plan to gather some of his guards to form a search team instead of meeting Karenina as he had originally intended.
******
Maya
Her shoulders were sore, but at least she was able to move again. Maya woke up alone, not knowing where Mike and Selene had gone. She didn't care. She was on a mission to find the girl she loved. She knew Nathaniel would be angry with her for not following Rylan and losing the others, but she would find this hybrid girl, Karenina Mason. And wasn't it a good thing to be near one of Nathan's enemies? It wasn't her fault if they all scattered.
She was a little worried about the absence of the other wolves, though, when she woke up and realized moments later that she had returned to her original form. Had they seen her? Did they suspect her true origins and loyalties? No, of course not. They would surely kill her when she was so vulnerable. So why did they leave?
It was for the best. Her disguise had been blown and they would probably tell the girl she loved, and Maya did not want her whereabouts known until she decided it was the right time. Just the memory of the disbelieving and angry look on her beloved hybrid girl's face when they had parted was enough to solidify her plan. She had to explain... she had to do something so that her favorite hybrid girl would not reject her completely.
No, she would not - could not - be rejected by anyone ever again! Especially not by her pure heart. Maya was sure that her feelings would return in time, and the girl she loved would never betray her like Alicia had.
Alicia... She clenched her teeth and pushed away the thought of her former lover. She was already dead, as she should be.
Maya ran quickly, making better time today as the urge to see her love rushed through her blood. She was back in Elena's body when she finally approached the gate of Xavier's territory.
She stopped, panting slightly as her energy was in a weakened state when she saw the gates open and several warriors in black and blue uniforms mixed with others dressed in brown and tan standing in formation with Xavier and another Alpha male in front of the gathering.
She stood for only a second before all eyes were on her. Before she could process what was happening, she found herself in a strong embrace with the scent of the forest in her nose. The golden-haired Alpha male held her so tightly that she thought he was going to strangle her. She prepared to fight back when he whispered into her hair.
"Elena, my precious daughter, I have found you."
