Chapter 9
Eugene Ari Darian's POV
My resumé was slightly out of date. My results were from eons ago when Mother forced me to attend school to learn the mortal ways of life. It was new to me like it was to the little mortals then but I got used to it. Learning about my god heritage made me look down on the inferior humans. They were beneath me but when puberty hit, I had to get close to them, or at least their girls.
I was back at the bar, ordering a bottle of scotch, totally minding my business when an unknown lady snuck up to me, wrapping her hands around my arms. I slowly turned my head to her, hands still on my glass. I hadn't taken a sip yet.
"You look lonely," she tried being seductive but failed miserably. She had an embarrassed blush on before turning her faze to the floor and out of my peripheral vision, a couple of girls facepalmed themselves. It occurred to me they were her friends and if I've learned anything about ladies it's that they had a way of putting pressure on themselves. Their insecurities were usually overwhelming causing me to stay away before going in for a bumpy ride with them, like being in a relationship.
"I am actually, I just got out of a relationship so," I let my words hang in the air, leaving her to connect the dots.
"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that, it must be hard." She pulled a seat by my side and sat
"It is. I was actually about to propose to her next week," I took a sip of my scotch "We dated for three years. You see, it was hard for us because I wasn't financially stable that period but I did everything I could to make her happy."
"I guess it wasn't enough." I faked a sad expression which she bought. She was as naive as she looked with a black, body-hugging, strapless dress on. Her nerdy glasses proved her friends forced her into that dress. It didn't look like her style as I pictured her as a joggers kind of girl.
"I'm sorry you went through that but I see no reason why a lady would depend on a guy. I mean this isn't the twenty-first century. Women are begin empowered but some ladies just don't like hard work but instead want powerful men."
"Wow." I was impressed. Most ladies nowadays don't have such intellect
"What's your name again? I didn't catch it."
"That's cause I didn't throw it."
"I'm sorry, that was weird and the addition of numbers divided by the number of those numbers, mean." She was beginning to act weird, shuffling the end of her knee-length dress
"Errrr," my lips closed as I watched her make weird noises with her mouth. I never knew humans could make such sounds
"I have to leave now. I have to go home to my dog," I lied. On my feet instantly, I walked past her friends whose eyes followed me till I was out of their line of vision.

On my way to the university in a badly beat-up car, I purchased to avoid suspicion. I didn't even know such cars still existed till I bought this. A disgusted shiver ran down my spine when I handed my card over for the purchase which cause the guy to look at me oddly.
I arrived ten minutes earlier than expected of me. One thing I hated was tardiness. I tried parking in an empty spot but the car kept jerking and galloping, almost turning off. I was regretting but this piece of trash. It was almost impossible to believe someone once owned it. The other cars looked to be in a better state than mine but that was the point of it all.
The place looked like it did before the big exhibit. The beautiful decorations had already been taken down. The walls looked bare except for the new arts that hung nicely on them. They all looked great with mine hanging in the middle of them. Olympus came to mind again but I pushed it down. Now wasn't the time to be glum.
Mr. Hark made his way down the hall to me. On his face was a broad smile which I reciprocated out I courtesy. My painting did a number on me and I had to see it every day. I wasn't so sure about this idea anymore.
"Darian, you are earlier than expected. Did you wait long?"
"Not at all, Sir. I just arrived. Had a little trouble parking but it's all good." Holding a conversation came naturally to me, a part of me was happy about it.
"Sorry to hear about that but shall we go to my office? I can show you your schedule and maybe give you a tour of the vicinity? You might want to see the other departments sometime." He led the way to his office and I stayed by his side as he spoke about the students and how he acquired his job.
"So I had to make a few calls here and there but it turned out good in the end even after several rejections so when I saw your work the other day, I knew I had to hire you. It would have haunted me if I didn't."
"And I'll always be grateful for this opportunity you've shown me."
"Stop it, it was my pleasure hiring you. I know you won't make me regret it" he chuckled, reaching into his desk and pulling out a file. "This is your fixed time. It seems you'll be free on Wednesdays and Fridays. Your colleagues will take those days." He read with his glasses high on his nose. His office was fully furnished to the top. Everything a faculty officer could need.
"One of them is already in the lecture hall waiting for his students. Something about punctuality and time to organize his thoughts."
"Here you go," he handed the pages to me and I looked through them. I had a lecture in a couple of hours.
"I don't have a class till eleven," I pointed out
"Yep."
"Then why did you call me in so early?" His relaxed answer annoyed me
"I felt like it. It's fun being a boss now and it felt good to test it on someone and I chose you."
"Ohhh, also you aren't allowed to leave till your time is over. No excuses." He laid back into his armchair, his eyes slowly closing
"Now, Miss Oceans is outside waiting for you for your tour. Have a nice first-day son." He flashed a smile at me. His happy personality was getting on my nerves now.
"Before I forget," his voice stopped me from taking another step out of his office. "She'll show you to your office as well. It still needs some touching but I'm sure you can handle it."
