Chapter 26
It was raining heavily!!!....
6:30 am. That was when Sabina left her quarters to come to work in the rain, she was always known to be punctual, unlike her fellow maid Zara who procrastinated a lot.
Sabina needed to be at the house on time and help Sophia with her early morning routine. No matter the weather, one needed to bathe and prepare for the day, and being very responsible and quiet, she hurried with her umbrella and entered the vicinity.
Once inside, she turned on the passage light and living room through to the kitchen. Sometimes the house would be so blacked out with the thick curtains preventing light from outside penetrating. One had to turn on the light bulbs for a better view.
She checked the kitchen and after having a little breakfast she walked to Sophia's room to wake her up as usual.
Sabina thought of her life in the house. She liked it, at least she wasn't treated badly but she needed to find a better job than what she was doing, she pitied her boss and stayed a little while more.
Shock couldn't explain the expression on Sabina’s face when she opened the door and found two people cuddled up on the mahogany bed. They were in the most compromising position her naive mind had ever seen, with Sophia lying on her back and a male figure had his face on her chest, his legs tangled with her numb ones while wrapping his left hands around her torso and he was bare-chested.
Sabina gasped but the sound was swallowed up by the battering of the heavy rain on the window and rooftop.
"That has never happened!!!" She cried in her mind.
She tried to get a better view of who the male was, her mind quickly making up options of whom it might be. “doctor Stanley?” she thought dreadfully. she was sure Sophia's husband was a hundred percent jerk and wouldn't want to associate with his wife.
"Is she cheating on him?!" She thought once she couldn't make out his face again and paled at the realization. She didn't believe her madam to be a cheater.
She contemplated going ahead to prepare a hot bath or just return to the kitchen and prepare food when thunder rumbled viciously stirring Sophia.
Sabina turned and grabbed the door handle to escape but it was too late.
"Sabina?" She murmured still lying on the bed with a sleepy face, ignorant of the person spooning her.
"Good morning ma, how was your night?... Thought I should leave you to sleep more since the rain might prevent your therapy today" She whispered and the door squeaked.
Jason grumbled and shook, tightening his hold on her and burying his face deeper in the mid of her bosom. That was when she noticed.
Sophia looked down and froze. Her breath hitched, her nipples tightened and her body electrified instantly due to the proximity, things she'd never felt before she felt all of it at that instant. Confused.
No wonder she felt extraordinarily warm throughout the night. It was his warmth that helped her sleep through the cold weather without waking to adjust her duvet.
"B...but how did he get here?" She thought looking up to a confused Sabina with a horrendous look on her face.
Once she looked back at his sleeping form, even as he slept he twitched his left hand with which he held her, trying to get her closer than impossible. There was no space between them anymore, even a pin drop couldn't fit.
His curls were everywhere on her bosom, in his face and he held unto her as his life depended on it. his breath tickled her jaw with its warmth and his weight was obvious but protective, suddenly noticing he had NO SHIRT on!!!!!. Exposing his tender fresh masculine body as he slept. Sophia moved her eyes down to his grey joggers which were dangerously low on his waist identifying the slant to his derrière and their entangled legs under the thick blankets and that was it!.
She possibly tried so hard to contain her raging hormones at the sight before her, she breathed slowly to control her mind and lifted her hands not knowing where to place them exactly.
They weren't freaking intimate and he was acting like it. Then she remembered how he felt repulsed at her disability and stopped coming over to her room and even kept late nights.
But to crown it all he had to come home with one of his sexual partners!!.
Every tingle of electricity she felt then died and with pure rage, she jerked him off of her body roughly and he sat up confused.
Jason woke with a migraine. An after-effect of his whisky tour. He held his temples and steadied himself for a while, allowing the piercing pain to ease off.
Sabina’s eyeballs almost fell off in surprise. She didn't think in her dreams she would see this day. She wanted to smile but saw the anger and fury in Sophia's face as she sat up and wondered what next.
Finally, Jason's headache eased and he opened his eyes to his environment for the first time. Saw the maid at the door but shrugged it off. In his mind, his main focus was Sophia who looked like she could run off a bridge.
Sabina excused herself and left them alone.
They both sat there for seconds, Sophia avoiding eye contact and Jason feeling weird.
"Good morning" he squeaked coarsely and finally stretched his body on the bed.
"Morning" she murmured incoherently but he heard through the silence.
"How was your night?" He continued trying to make a decent conversation that will help ease the awkwardness. He knew he would never run away this time with a silly excuse as being drunk to stupor and mistaking his room.
He wasn't wasted last night. He only wanted to follow his heart for once but that wasn’t going well this morning.
He sat far from her side now bare-chested, rubbing his clavicle.
"Why are you here?..." She asked with uncertainty. She finally said it! What she had been trying to say since.
"I...I don't know honestly. Maybe I missed it all" he confessed avoiding her eyes.
Sophia turned to look at him. "No, you don't get to say that now" she whispered bitterly.
Jason faced her squarely.
"I know... I know but I just_."
"GET. OUT" slowly but painfully she spoke. Staring back at him.
"What? Can you listen to me?"
"I'm not one of your conquests neither am I fangirling over you. You cannot always get favors. You disrespect me and everyone together!" She raised her tempo.
"You sleep with those whores and return to my bed as you wish, then act like we've been intimate since, like who does that?!!!!!" She screamed, flaring all of a sudden.
Jason dared not say a word or else...
Sophia continued, pointing at him in anger.
"You have no regard for anything or anybody but yourself. You lead people on and leave them, is that it? Mh? Tell me?!!! Do you also want a cripple chasing after you for an unreciprocated love?."
She stilled in silence to catch her breath.
"I'm famished and I don't need your baggage added to mine. I don't ever want to see you in my room again. You work on yourself and leave innocent people like me alone" she muttered bitterly reducing her tempo.
Jason sat still like a ghost... But rubbing his temple to ease the ache that came with the shouting. He felt rejected and hurt but he didn't want her to see it, why would she see him break down before her? he wanted to but held his emotions.
Taking in huge breaths he stood from the bed looked around it but not wanting to look her in the eye, or face the realities of it which were truly manifested in her words.
"She is right, am an inconsiderate jerk" but he didn't regret coming to her room last night and he didn't also regret not sneaking off in the early mornings as usual. He wanted to wake up beside her and show how sorry and repented he was.
Wrong move. "Do you still want me to add how self-absorbed and irresponsible you are? I have never seen anyone like you who has everything but chases nothing. I'm not your mother nor am I your stupid friend Sean" he glanced at her this time with surprise and pain. His words caught in his throat. He wanted to thread cautiously with her.
"I may look innocent but I have a heart and my heart has its limits before it turns cold and stops beating. Let's be on our side of the house as it was in peace..." She finished with anger laced to her words. Jason felt that was the end of the beginning of his newfound romance.
"Please leave... Don't want to see you" wiping her face which hid under her curly damp hair.
Jason was hurt!. He was so hurt that he was blinded by it. Quickly wore his footwear beside him and turned for the door, he left it open because the same maid he saw when he woke was stood outside of the room with a breakfast tray in her hands. He ignored her and zoomed off to his room, his face red and his heart shattered.
