Chapter 36
Touche, if the tear rubber Audi E-Tron that came as a wedding present a few months ago was human, it would be ballistic for the graceless and heavy-handed way Jason drove it in the streets through the highway to the familiar quiet aesthetic area he lived in.
The thrill he felt at the latest discovery that Charlotte wasn't pregnant for him was unimaginably relieving.
The only thought in his skittish mind was Sophia. His dear wife, to return in her arms as he left her that cold morning, and if only she would still be in her silky nighties with her curls shrouding her high cheekbones and plump lips nothing would give him more pleasure than to cup her in his arms and apologize for his irrationalities and promise her forever together.
It would settle any indifference she had towards him. Jason smiled at the thought of something new with Sophia. She was like a breath of fresh air that he'd longed for and he knew deep down somewhere that it would all work out.
Until... He eagerly shut his car door and ran for the entrance promising to tell Sophia the whole truth about his ordeal with Charlotte and never to keep secrets from her again.
Surprised at how cleaned up and silent the whole house looked, Jason shrugged the thought off, stepping into Sophia's room to find the bed well dressed, every bit of furniture and clothing well in place as usual.
He smiled at the thought of Sophia being a neat freak even without her two legs for support. Jason stood in the middle of the spacious room-filling his nostrils with the familiar scent that clogged his inner thoughts.
The bathrooms were empty likewise her therapy room. He'd searched the whole house back to back yet no sign of anyone not even the young maids and he had no idea how to contact them. It wasn't strange for Sophia to be away from the house as she sometimes needed extra hospital checkups. But this was different.
"The maids never went with her nor retired so early" Jason reasoned, standing akimbo in Sophia's room.
The feeling of apprehension heightened the longer he waited, racking his brain for any possible whereabouts but not until he saw the conspicuous brown envelope on her dresser did he know something was fishy.
As he read through the words meticulously, line by line, he felt his insides twist in boundless trepidation. Realizing Charlotte had wreaked serious havoc in his life.
His anxiety piqued, causing hiccups to his breath.
Everywhere seemed to rotate blinding his vision to eigengrau and drawing him into an endless vortex as he staggered to find his balance. The exhaustion from the day's troubles was too much for his hypoglycemic system.
Jason fiddled away with the envelope which slipped off his quivering hands. Losing his balance, Jason dropped to the marble floor with a loud thud, and everything blacked out.

Song: Anna of the north (Lovers)
You told me I would never see you walk away.
Said you'd never break my heart
Never leave me in the dark
I guess there's just some promises we shouldn't make
Shoulda known from the start
I'm in the dark
Show a little loving
Shine a little light on me
Show a little loving
Shine a little light on me
Show a little loving
Shine a little light on me
(Chorus 1)
I'm in the dark
I can't see
Can't see it
Can't see it
Feeling my way back to you
I can't feel
Can't feel it
Can't feel it
(Chorus 2)
Reach out show a little loving
Shine a little light on me
Show a little loving
Shine a little light on me
I'm in the dark
Show a little loving
Shine a little light in me
Show a little loving
Shine a little light on me.

"Is he going to be alright doctor? He's not moving at all, what's happening tell me?!" Charlotte screamed wearily at the already depressed doctor while he carefully arranged his expensive sphygmomanometer, totally ignoring her rants.
"Am talking to you old man... Do you know who the patient is huh? I guess not. If you had you'd be shivering by now with fear" Charlotte kept on, following the doctor out of the room towards the living room.
Sabina stood outside the room obsequiously waiting on the doctor.
She was so scared, the thought of what could have become of her boss's only son if she hadn't dropped by to get her medication was horrific. She found him grotesquely lying on the cold marble, his features twisted and Sabina could tell he was unconscious.
She called her boss Mrs. Bestman but wasn't reachable, decidedly dropping a message. Jason required first aid which she knew nothing of so she called her doctor friend who came around immediately. How Charlotte came into the picture was still unclear to her.
"How... How is he, sir?" She squeaked timidly.
The doctor paused to face her Sabina.
"He's stable, had a few concussions due to the fall, and needed glucose in his streams. So he's on a drip and he needs long-lasting bedrest he seems stressed, but aside from these nothing much, he'll live" he assured. Charlotte appeared behind him in anger.
"Is she whom you decided to report to eh?!."
"I do not report to you miss, you didn't send for me, and may I know what family ties you share with my patient?" He asked boldly adjusting his boxed paraphernalia.
"I'm his girlfriend and mother to his unborn child you dork head!" She claimed, rubbing her invisible bump for emphasis.
"The message I got is that he's married and I suppose you're not her!" He retorted, Condescending.
Charlotte flared. "Who told you that you fool?... Is she the one?" Pointing at Sabina who recoiled instantly.
Charlotte drew closer.
"Your mouth like a basket, how dare you to talk rubbish? you're just a maid and your work isn't to gossip and tell lies about your boss's private life. Is that what you were paid for?! Eh?!_" She vibrated intimidating the poor girl.
"And what might the hassle be for?" Olivia Bestman stepped in in her exotic demeanor consequently chilling the whole room to quiet cold.
"Charlotte right?!" She asked dryly. Charlotte didn't hesitate to cleave to her side loftily.
"Yes madam we met before at your_" Olivia interrupted her rudely without a second glance? "Sabina I saw your message, is everything right? Where's my son Jason?."
Before the chubby short maid could respond Charlotte's overbearing voice came first.
"He's in the room unconscious. I've been asking this incompetent thing of a doctor what his condition is and he refuses to acknowledge my presence."
Olivia turned to the doctor in question. "Dr. Amaechi, what happened to my son? Is his condition stable?" To Charlotte's greatest disappointment.
"He fell and concussed his head, no major injuries though. He's on a little sedative and drip he'll be okay soon."
"Thanks so much, sir."
"It's no problem madam I came as soon as Sabina called. Am happy it's no longer regular" he chipped in, Olivia nodded in affirmation while Sabina smiled. The noticeable gesture confusing Charlotte the more.
"I should take your leave now then" doctor Amaechi gestured professionally.
"Oh sure do, Charlotte I think you should follow suit, your assistance is no longer needed here, adios!" She commanded walking past her giving no room for further contention. Sabina smiled victoriously at how low Charlotte was being treated by the woman she so much looked up to.
