Chapter 40
Charlotte heavy, sat in a rickety congested bus on her way to Sean's house. Feeling disgusted with herself and everyone inside the bus which wasn't the best option for a pregnant woman like her because every bad road they encountered was seeming detrimental to her and the baby's health.
She had cried so much the day she discovered that Jason and Sophia were back together and engaged. After hoping she could get back with Jason once he returned from London now it felt like a dream those years in university when he cared for her in different ways. She messed up big time and she knew it by going for Sean. Sean was mean to her, he refused the pregnancy insisting they run DNA test once the baby was born but yet refused funding her medical bills.
She couldn't return to her pauper home with her hopeless parents that derived peace in their condition. She has always hated her life with her parents and siblings. The slums and bad weather. she never felt the need to return there until now that she needed a caretaker for her unborn child. Charlotte threw up the day she visited home. Everywhere smelled of smoke and dirt and the cushions where an eyesore. It was hard for her to open her mouth without inhaling an ordurous smell.
She was returning to Sean to beg for a room in his apartment at least for old times sake. Drops of tears wet her now thin cheeks but she didn't care to wipe it.
"I know you from somewhere"
A tattered looking woman said beside her in the bus after a while of racking her brains on how familiar Charlotte's face was.
Charlotte gave her a wicked glance and continued in her thoughts but the woman was persistent.
"You were always with my stepdaughters husband... Jason right?!" She said loudly drawing unnecessary attention to them.
"Don't be stupid woman I've never seen you in my life and I'm sure you're confusing me with someone else" Charlotte defended throwing her face away, she caught people watching ardently and waved at them to ignore the old lady. "She's crazy, don't mind her" she assured the onlookers.
"I'm not crazy, I used to be then but now I look crazy because I suffer for my previous sins and wickedness. I used to have everything I ever wanted just like you" the woman said watching a scared Charlotte. "But we both messed up our chances now we're in the streets hungry and dirty"
"I'm not dirty!" Charlotte defended the words were getting to her, it felt like her past we're haunting her but she wasn't sure who the old lady was.
"Who are you?"
The lady smiled. "My name is Maureen Moore."

Title: Thralldom
Tamara and setel are twins borne of the outcast clan. They survived beyond the pastures of the moire clan at the time when the kingdoms of Arisee and Izha stood against their brother clan Adar the re-known outcast clan.
A festive day out in the thick bushes playing a hide and seek game with her brother's friends, Tamara is captured and kidnapped by the Arisee vigilante soldiers who traveled beyond their border in search of slaves believed to be Adar survivors who had dwelled far away from their oppressors.
At the reign of king Ziba of Arisee (the notorious one) slaves were made of their brother clan, they haunted them like animals and subjected their entirety to the mines, farmyard, or the king's palace as workers.
A free borne never had anything to do with a slave. It was a sacrilegious act to be seen with one, a taboo that the offense meant death or stigmatization from the rest of the clan.
What will happen when the charismatic crown prince of the Arisee clan son of the great dubious king Ziba falls in love with the slave girl who worked in the maize farm where he was supposed to supervise...
Conflicted and torn, he would have to make his choice wisely either to send the slave girl down to the deadliest places or have her all to himself and dance to the drum beats of the masquerades...
Coming soon.
