Chapter 16 Rescued
Aiden
I jerked as I felt a twinge at my left side. It was as if someone was tugging at my flesh. Groaning, I clutched my palpitating heart whilst leaning on the round table for support.
"What's wrong?" Liam questioned with a raised eyebrow, whilst Kellen and Maya sidled to my side.
Sparkles lifted her gaze from her phone to meet mine. Her inquisitive ultramarine orbs stayed on mine for a few seconds, before glancing back to her phone.
"I'm fine," I grunted, then beckoned to her to proceed.
"If you say so," Ellen muttered, still watching me from where she stood at the centre of the room. "The numbers of casualties are increasing every day. Also, Mark told me he notices some humans walking around the territory with weird tattoos on their skins."
I lifted a brow, and she shrugged her shoulders before continuing.
"The locals too have been filled with a lot of rumours lately."
"Rumours about?" I let out whilst five pairs of eyes with different hues gazed at me as if I was dumb. Perhaps, since my mind has been off lately.
It had been centred on mostly how I could get Elena and nothing else. Not only because of her, but it was also mostly J.J's reappearance, and how strong he had become.
The reason I had chosen to be an Alpha, the love I have for my packs all became meaningless as I realized how lacking I was when it comes to strength.
All my thoughts these days were on how to defeat him whenever he confronted me again. Yet, I couldn't do that without a plan since Elena's life was at stake too.
Ellen's voice severed the connection I had with my thoughts.
"Geez Aiden, what have you been doing with your head that you can't even pick up on anything going on around you. Even under your freaking nose!" She shoved her hands into her sleek blonde hair.
"His head has been in Elena's arse lately." Sparkles chipped in, giggling. She flicked a strand of her brown hair off her face whilst glaring back at me.
"That's the truth." She let out.
"Well, I guessed I have a life, and I don't need to be so hung up on things that are not beneficial." I rasped.
"That's a low blow, Aiden." Maya tsked, shaking her head.
"Even as I'm not a werewolf, I love everyone here and would do anything in my power to protect them. Also, I would like to admit you've been oblivious of everything going around. Moreover, you asserting we are not beneficial to you, pisses me off!" She contorted her face in a scowl.
Her almond brown eyes did the weird flashes it often does whenever she was mad- it became lighter a bit before it went back to its natural colour.
Perhaps, I should not have said they weren't beneficial, but I couldn't take my words back. Even I didn't know what was wrong with me as I have never been this hung up on a woman before.
Not even the first time I had sighted Sienna. She was the most beautiful woman in the ball, her bright smile, and granite grey eyes were the only thing I could think of as her willowy structure strutted towards me in the yellow gossamer gown that showed off her ample chest and creamy leg. Yet, I didn't stalk or try to control her this way.
What I felt for Elena was a different kind of affection, a unique bond that seems to get stronger each time we come in contact.
"You have a life now? Even when you were with Sienna, you never behaved this shitty!"
"Don't!" I growled, stalking towards a now simmering Ellen.
She did the same and tightened her hands into a fist. Her eyes flashed golden to show I had pissed and pushed her so much.
She was never quick to anger compared to my other siblings, and pack members.
However, when shoved she wouldn't be the charming Cinderella people deemed her to be.
"Children!" Mom bellowed as she came into view. Her sapphire eyes flickered to everyone in the room before she settled on the chair close to Sparkles.
"What is the ruckus about?" She lifted perfectly made brows as she stared at me in disgust.
"Well, we were talking about how hung up your precious son's head is in his self-proclaimed mate's butt." Sparkles said.
Mom glared at her. “When will you learn never to speak in an ill-mannered way?”
Sparkles tilted her head and placed her left hand to her pointed chin as if to think it over. “Well, momma dearest, that would perhaps, be never.”
I was about to give a nasty come back to her when my phone went off. Elena's name flashed on the screen, and I excused myself from them to answer my phone.
"Aiden!" Her panicked voice vibrated through my body. Still, I took it to mean excitement.
“Hey, what's up?" I mumbled whilst running my free hand through my dishevelled hair.
"Please help!"
"What's wrong?" I rasped, my voice matching her panicked one.
"They are here Aiden!"
"Bitch!" A masculine voice said from the other side.
My heart skipped a beat, and before I could ask who that was, I heard the phone clatter to the phone whilst she shrieked, whether in pain or fright.
I didn't know which it was, but I growled and I felt a rush of angry waves radiating off me.
I stalked off back into the room and snatched my keys off the table.
"What's wrong? You look as if you could murder anyone that comes to your path." Kellen mumbled whilst observing the scowl on my face.
"I will if I see the person tormenting Elena right now." I gritted my teeth together as several thoughts of what could be happening flashed in my head.
"So, you eventually let her go, how could you freaking endangered her life? What the heck were you thinking of?" Her nostrils flared as she bristled.
"Shut the F up, I'm trying to think here!" I snapped and she calmed down a bit.
Still, she gritted her teeth and sent a dirty look my way.
I knew she was somewhat mad at me, I was even madder at myself.
I knew it was another of Jensen's minions that had gone to attack her because he would never do the job himself. He had only appeared to show he was in town that day.
I wonder how she would be feeling right now, I mulled as I stepped out with Ellen, Maya, and Sparkles who had volunteered to help.
I could handle a whole army myself, but someone needed to look after Elena whenever that was happening.
I darted out of my car as soon as I got there. A force propelled me backwards as I was about to step onto the porch.
"Damn it!"
"What's wrong?" Ellen asked for the umpteenth time as she stepped out of the red Ford truck they had borrowed from Kellen.
"It is sealed, and I can't get in." My hands thumped on the invisible barrier, but nothing gave way.
I heard Elena's voice as I listened intently, and I darted forward only to be flung backwards, yet again.
"Elena!"
"Allow me Aiden." Maya's cool hand nudged me sideways and she lifted her oval-shaped face in the air.
Her shoulder-length hair fell backwards, and she shut her brown eyes. She began to chant and for a few minutes, I thought it was futile as I saw blood dripping down from her nostril.
I tried to shake her out of it but was flung sideways. This time, she did it, and not the barrier.
"Aiden, let her do her thing!" Ellen chews on her bottom lip, and she often did that whenever she was nervous.
I stayed close to Maya in case she became unconscious. Also, I didn't try to stop her.
She just discovered she was a witch on her eighteenth birthday which was last year. Yet, she had managed to train herself on some of the essential things she needed to know.
"It's done though it's a powerful spell. It's done." She mumbled before losing consciousness. I clutched her body before she could slam to the floor.
Ellen stepped forward to take her from me.
"She'll be fine. Go rescue Elena."
I didn't need any further words or encouragement on what to do as I vamped inside.
"Elena!"
"In here, Aiden!" She sounded shaky. "Please be careful."
She yelped and I heard her slammed into something.
I growled as I came into the opening they were in. A floor lamp from nearby brightened the small room, and I could make out the other three occupants aside from Elena and two people that were sprawled on the floor.
Elena set to move to my side, but a dude with white hair and a buff body gripped her neck tightly.
"Ai.. den.." She choked out and I could see her struggling to puff out breath from her mouth.
I didn't know what happened next, all I knew was I darted into him and twisted his neck.
Elena gasped out as the guy that was holding her landed with a thud on the floor.
The remaining two became wary of me but didn't back down though.
I noticed a tattoo at the back of the last guy's neck and also the one I snapped his neck.
Then I realized this was the weird-looking wolves with tattoos Ellen was on about.
It was the exact one I had seen on J.J's neck several times- a werewolf with red eyes, and the letter R boldly written under the design of their tattoo.
These signified they weren't just werewolf, they were vampires too which made them hybrids.
Hybrids only belong to the East Vale clan and seeing them here made them trespassers.
"Would Renee be okay?" Elena asked whilst gripping me tightly. I glanced to where the red-haired was sprawled and noticed she was breathing.
"She would be fine," I stated, still glancing at two occupants who seemed to be conversing with each other.
"Hey, hey." I lifted her head, then wiped a tear that was getting close to her lips with my index finger. "You'll be fine Okay and so would Renee. I want you to try lifting her outside, I have some unfinished business with these two."
Elena shook her head frantically and she began to object. I shut off her protest with my lips. She moulded into me perfectly whilst gripping my shirt. She had never responded to my kiss in this passionate way.
Also, I was glad she didn't yell or try to push me away as she often does. Perhaps, it was because of what she was feeling at the moment.
She moaned into my mouth, and before she could deepen the kiss, I withdrew my mouth from her.
She gripped my face whilst caressing it. She lifted her body to mine and her lips locked on mine once more. I kissed her for a few more seconds before removing my lips from her gently.
"Go now. I'll be with you soon." I grinned even though the anger I was feeling within me was far from it.
I gave her a gentle shove to where her friend was, and guided her as she lifted her. I didn't want her to see the gruesome sight of whatever would happen.
Humans couldn't take it as they often go into shock which might lead to paralysis. Even as she knew who I was, I didn't want her to see me turning into the monster I was.
Elena halted in the doorway whilst struggling with her friend's body. "Be safe, Aiden. I'll be waiting for you."
Only that assurance of her waiting, and caring made my heart warm. We locked eyes for a few minutes before she left.
I shifted to the occupants as soon as she left.
"Start talking or heads would roll," I growled.
Though I had made up my mind to still decapitate them, they don't need to know. They touched what is most precious to me, and they would pay for it.
From the corner of my eyes, I noticed the guy that had been unconscious when I came in, fingers twitched.
"I don't take rules from you," He looked like the leader of the group, his green orbs twinkled as he swaggered towards me. The girl did the same, snarling.
“Cora now!” Her lips moved, and she stretched forth her hands in my direction.
At the same time, he swished towards me but I sidestepped him to knock the girl out.
“No!” He came at me again, and with quick reflex, I shoved him aside and grunted as I felt a blow to my stomach.
“Yo Kyle!”
“I'm glad you are awake, Drew."
I was caught off guard, and one used the opportunity to grip my hands. I struggled against him but to no avail.
This Drew was strong, perhaps because he had been feeding on human blood.
His fangs retracted and he sank it into my neck.
I howled out in pain, as he went on sucking from me.
"Aiden!" Elena's voice permeated into my brain.
My eyes turned golden as her pained filled voice from earlier flashed into my memory.
I shoved the guy off, rammed him against the wall. I stuck my hand into his chest and brought out his heart. Then broke off the leg of a dining chair to stake the other with.
After some while, I stepped outside to see Elena struggling against Ellen.
"Aiden!"
"I'm fine," I said, wincing at the pain still in my neck. My hands went to cover it before Elena's body met mine.
She sobbed and I gripped her body tighter. I lifted her tear-stained face to mine to see some red slashes on it.
I caressed her face before hugging her to me. I noticed her friend beside Maya, she looked quite shaken.
"Your neck." She pointed to her neck as she stared at me with green unblinking eyes.
"I'll be fine," I mumbled, flashing her a smile.
"Come on, I'll take you home, Elena."
"How about Renee?"
"She'll come with us. She can't be here." Ellen said.
Elena stared at her briefly before her gaze travelled to mine.
"She'll be fine, Elena. Ellen is my little sister, and your friend would be staying in my family house which means no pain would come to her."
She nodded, then fanned her face. I noticed how pale it was and she slurred, “Okayy, Ai...de...n.”
I clutched her body before she could strike the ground.
"Lena!" Renee shrieked snapping out of the daze she had been in.
"Geez. I guess she's stressed up." Ellen facepalmed.
"Change of plans. I'm taking her to mom. She's burning up." I mumbled whilst lifting her trembling body to my car.
“Was she sick?” I heard Ellen asking Renee.
“No, but that is how she often behaved whenever stressed. And I hope she will be okay.”
“I hope so too,” I muttered to myself before driving out of the lot.
