Victoria
"How are you doing?" Detective Voight asked me.
"Better," I said with a small smile.
After agreeing to press charges against Michael, the police immediately looked for Antonio. Michael had him at his parents' house. Antonio and I were moved to a new apartment. I got a new job working in the medical records department at a hospital. It was nice to be working again and being allowed outside; I also enjoyed all my time with Antonio. I was worried that Antonio would reject me because of how little time we spent together. However, he always wanted to be in my arms; he missed me just as much as I missed him.
After a few weeks, I was called to meet with one of the detectives who arrested Michael. They wanted to explain a few things about Michael's arrest since I had no idea what exactly happened. Honestly, I wasn't sure I wanted to know, but curiosity got the best of me, so I agreed to meet.
"As I said, I wanted to go over the entire case with you."
"Okay."
"We originally planned to arrest Michael for illegal possession and unlawful distribution of several drugs."
"How were you able to arrest him for that?" I was curious; Michael was always careful when dealing drugs.
"One of our C.I.'s spotted him selling cannabis and a few narcotics on a college campus. Before we could request a warrant, we were contacted by the social worker at the hospital. The doctors took notes every time you visited and managed to put the pieces together. After they told us the situation, we immediately contacted a judge and got a warrant for his arrest. We arrested him while you were unconscious; he had just arrived at the hospital."
"Okay."
Detective Voight looked distraught. He seemed like he wanted to speak but was holding back.
"What is it?"
"When we spoke to David, the housekeeper you mentioned, he gave us these," detective Voight put a bottle of pills on his desk. I recognized those pills. "It's medication to boost your estrogen and progesterone levels."
My eyes grew wide.
That's why I was constantly feeling frisky.
"David said Michael gave these to you with your pain medication. After your cheekbone healed, Michael started putting it in your food."
Tears built up in my eyes; I was so disgusted. As every memory of Michael and I having sex came back to me, I felt dirty.
"I know this is difficult to hear."
"Yeah," I said as I looked down and took a deep breath.
"There's one other thing."
I looked up at detective Voight.
"Michael has one damn good attorney, so you'll have to testify in court if you want him to pay for what he's done to you."
Michael
I lay on the bed of my jail cell, wondering how Victoria was doing. No one gave me any updates on her. I would've asked my family, but I didn't want them to know I was in prison. I didn't need to hear them lecture me about staying away from drugs; I wasn't a child.
A security guard walked over to me.
"Your attorney is here," he said in a gruff voice.
"It's about Damn time, "I mumbled as I walked up to the bars, so the security guard could put handcuffs on me.
I was escorted to the visiting room. I looked around the room, and my eyes locked on a table across the room. A man around my age dressed in the same jumpsuit was holding a little girl in his arms. A young woman, about the same age as him, sat across from him with a smile.
Where are Victoria and Antonio?
"Sorry... wrong room," the guard chuckled as he dragged me out of the room and down a hallway. I was shoved into a room where my attorney sat at a table.
"What took you so long?′ I asked, annoyed.
"I've been busy cleaning up the mess you made. We've been over this before; I warned you that you'd end up in prison."
"Yeah, yeah, whatever."
My attorney let out a sigh.
"It took a lot of work, but I managed to eliminate the charges for the drugs you had in your possession."
"Then why the fuck am I still in here?"
"Victoria is pressing charges."
"What?"
"She's pressing charges for aggravated assault and battery, attempted murder, rape, and infliction of bodily harm. All of which have been documented by the doctors and her. She's also going to testify in court."
I felt like I was stabbed in the heart. How could Victoria betray me? I felt a combination of pain and rage; I scoffed in denial.
"You're joking. How did Victoria even document anything?"
"She kept a diary. Also, David will be testifying against you, which means the prosecutor has a strong case."
"David is testifying?"
"Yes. He's already told the detectives everything he knows, and I'm sure he won't mind repeating it to a jury."
I was on the verge of letting out my rage. I wasn't surprised that Victoria was speaking against me; she was naive and could be easily manipulated into doing anything. However, I trusted David; it never once crossed my mind that he would betray me.
"What are you going to do?" I asked.
"Do my best to get you minimal time. Perhaps even parole, if we're lucky."
