Yan Qingsi was speechless.
“Who agreed to it? Why don’t I know?”
Yue Tingfeng spread out his hands in a show of helplessness. “I heard it. I had a long conversation with my mother-in-law just now. You thought I was saying it for nothing? I’m so handsome, rich, and considerate… How can the elders not like me?”
At that point, Yan Qingsi was completely at loss for words. She had no idea what else she could say.
‘This fella… I don’t even know how he carries himself anymore. The skin on his face is so thick that there’s probably no one else who could come close to him.’
“You… Fine then… If you heard it, then you heard it.” Yan Qingsi did not know how else to respond to an idiot like him.
Yan Qingsi took a deep breath. The fresh, moist, and slightly cool air cleared her mind significantly after she inhaled it.
Yan Qingsi looked at the tombstone, smiled ever so slightly, and said, “Let’s go.”
Ever since she found out that Yan Songnan had died, she had been feeling incredibly distressed. She suppressed it but was unable to find a proper outlet to vent her feelings. She thought that those feelings would continue for a couple of days. Though, Yue Tingfeng’s presence, occasional buffoonery, and words had made those suppressed feelings dissipate completely.
Yan Qingsi smiled. So, happiness could be shared and the same could be said of unhappiness. The weight would be lifted if one shared one’s own burdens with someone else.
Yue Tingfeng wrapped his arm around Yan Qingsi’s shoulder and bowed to the grave. “Mom, I’ll come back and see you in a few days! Tell me whatever you want through my dreams. I’ll bring them to you immediately.”
Yan Qingsi could not muster a laugh but she smiled.
Once they were in the car, Yue Tingfeng turned up the heat. He said, “You look just like my mom, but it seems that my mom looks better…”
Yan Qingsi action of putting on her seatbelt came to a grinding halt. Earlier he was saying ‘our mom’ but that turned into ‘my mom’?!
She looked at him and remarked, “That’s MY mom. Don’t call her your mom. If Auntie Yue hears this, she’ll be so sad. A son that she raised from young is calling another woman his mom and did it so casually.”
Yue Tingfeng helped her to put on the seatbelt and pinched her cheeks. “Then you should quickly get home and tell my mom. She’d be very happy to hear that her son finally managed to reach his resolve. He met his mother-in-law and was accepted by her too. He even called her ‘Mom’! He’s all grown up now!”
Yan Qingsi had nothing else to say. ‘Sure, sure, you’re shameless, well done!’

The rain became heavier and Yue Tingfeng was very focused on driving. He drove steadily to avoid loss of traction on the road.
Yan Qingsi looked outside as the car drove from the suburbs to the city center. Along the way, cars increased in number and the buildings got taller.
They reached a red light and the car stopped. By accident, her eyes spotted one of the public transport information boards. Much to her surprise, it was broadcasting one of the commercials that she shot for a line of mid-tier cosmetics. Two young men took out their phones and began snapping pictures of it.
Yan Qingsi could not help but smile when she saw that. Yue Tingfeng followed her gaze and looked over, his face turning ugly in an instead. He twitched his lips and floored the gas once the light went green.
Once they were home, Yue Tingfeng carried Yan Qingsi and trapped her in his arms before going into the house.
Mrs. Yue saw the two of them and hurriedly told Yan Qingsi, “Quick, go take a warm bath. I’ll let Aunt Wu boil some ginger tea for you. Come and drink it to rid your body of the cold.”
Yan Qingsi nodded. “Aye, I’ll come down quickly.”
She took a quick warm bath, changed into some comfortable clothes, and used the towel to dry her hair.
