Chapter 29
Nicholas POV
"Nate Nathan, I don't think that that is a good idea." I said the following behind him. "Guys tell him that he is suicidal."
"And you are not."
"I have a reason. You can't just decide to make that kind of choice especially when you have someone to think of. That's just selfish."
"I know I have someone to think of which is why I am going this way. I need my daughter back Nicholas, I haven't seen her in months. Samuel wouldn't let me see her. "
"What the hell!. Why wouldn't he let you see I mean you are her father, right?"
"Yes I'm but not in the eyes of the law which is why I can't go to report this."
I frowned, I am getting more and more confused by all of this. I swear I'm going to come out of this with grey hair.
This got Victor and the guys sitting up. "What exactly do you mean Nathan?" I asked.
"What I mean is when Alison, Madison's mother was pregnant I wasn't even in the country at that time. I was away on a business trip and I promised Alison that I would be back in one year. We didn't even know that she was pregnant at that time so two months later she found out and she told me that I was going to be a father and I was so happy and ready to abandon the business over there and come back home the next day... But Alison knew how important that deal was to me but I told her that I was over that and that she was more important to me but she didn't agree and begged me to stay and finish the deal and then come back home to her." He sobbed, "everything was going well and I didn't bring up the topic of coming back home again because for some reason she would always get offended and angry when I brought it up so I stopped. 9 months passed in the blink of an eye and Allison went into labor... And I wasn't aware of it. Imagine how I felt when Samuel called to tell me that my wife went into labor for 12 hours but couldn't make it out alive and that I had to come home and take care of my daughter." Nate said full on crying now. What he went through was terrible and wouldn't wish that on my enemies... Well except Marcus and Samuel and I can't be blamed, those guys are horrible people and can do horrible things even to their loved ones especially when put together.
Benny had on his thinking face and looked at me. I know what he was thinking. "I'm so sorry that you had to go through that but how does that relate to you not having legal rights over your daughter Madison, right?" Benny asked.
Nate nodded, "yeah it doesn't because I wasn't aware that my father put his name as her biological father on her birth certificate and her other documents and Alison didn't die in the labor room. According to the doctors, she was as healthy as a horse after the delivery but according to the autopsy reports, she had a high level of potassium in her bloodstream which caused her to have a serious seizure and then death. All of this I didn't know until Samuel refused to let me take me out of the country."
God... That's just horrible. That's one of the worst things that you can ever do to a person, his story almost brings me to my knees. How can a father do that to his own child?
"Sounds absurd right? It did to me when I first found out the reason he refused me taking her outside the country."
"Ok I understand that part but what I don't understand is why your father would want to do something terrible to you?" I asked.
"Well because he is a psychopath and he wants no more funding in the company and when he is bigger than yours, you are out Nicholas but he doesn't have the money for that so he needs me."
"Ok so why didn't he just ask."
"Oh he alright, every single time he saw me but I refused to be part of his plans but he figured out a way to force my hands... Guys I just want my daughter back."
"How long ago was this?" I asked
"8 years."
That's about the same time that I lost my job and my son and found that bitch Anika fucking my father on our bed. I think Benny realized that too but something was missing. It took me a year after that to start my company so it wasn't adding up.
I ran my fingers through my hair and asked, "Nate, that's not possible, I mean I hadn't started the company then because I was dealing with some personal issues so the question now is how Samuel could possibly know that I had the intention of starting my own company?"
"That's right Nicky... All this just doesn't add up."
"No No guys you have got it all wrong. Samuel wasn't going after your business because obviously you hadn't started it, he was going after any well off company to cover his illegal business but didn't have the funding for that so Marcus came up with a plan... A plan that was the main reason for your mother's death." Nate said, looking at me.
I wasn't sure what he was expecting me to feel or even do but I'm just tired of hearing new reasons as to my mother's death or how much of a bastard Marcus actually is.
L
"Please explain further... I have nothing to say about that bastard anymore."
He nodded and continued. "Your mother Victoria was from a very wealthy home in Russia and the only heir to her father's empire. She had dreams of expanding the business which was how she met your father and as cliche as it sounds they fell in love but her father didn't agree to it not because he didn't want her to be happy but because he knew that Marcus wasn't the right man for his daughter... And he was right so Marcus brought her to America and that was how Victoria lost contact with her father but only to reunite 7 months before she died. Victoria was planning to leave Marcus and go back to Russia with you, she had wanted to do it a long time ago but didn't have anyone except from Marcus so when your grandfather sent a letter to her telling of how happy he was to have finally found her after many years but he was sick and dying and he just wanted to fulfill his last wish... Telling her goodbye and leaving everything to her and his grandson Nicholas Ivanov. "
I didn't know how to reply to what Nate just said and it looked like everyone was in the same predicament as I was in. After a few seconds of silence Victor decided to break the tense atmosphere.
"So you're telling me that Nicholas here is the heir to his grandfather's empire... And Marcus only loved Victoria for the money?"
Nate nodded in response. "Nicholas is also the heir and sole owner of the funds of his mother which he was supposed to assess when he turned 21 and all legal businesses of Marcus Rain."
That took the breath out of us. I had funds that I didn't know of and was supposed to assess when I was 21...8 freaking years ago. Are you serious right now?
"Wait, is that why Marcus sent me away a few months after my mother's death?"
"Sadly but yes...and that was the purpose of Anika in your life too."
"What!"
Nate took a deep breath and nodded. "Yeah I mean didn't you think that it was strange for her to be the only girl in an all boys school or how you didn't get punished for being friends with her."
"Yes I mean it was strange but I just brushed it off because well according to her her father owns half the school so I thought that it had something to do with it."
"No Nicholas. Anika was an orphan that was promised money and a home if she could make you fall for her and if that happens, she would present you with a document on your 21th birthday and make you sign it... Make you sign over your inheritance that you didn't even know of to your father."
I was afraid to ask but I just had to. "And the baby... After I found out about her relationship with Marcus I left. I don't know if the baby was truly mine or if there was even a baby to begin with."
"Sadly there was a baby...but it wasn't yours. It was your father's."
"Huh it figures... How did you know of all this?"
"I once worked for my father, remember...and I came across things and arguments between those two that I wasn't supposed to even know."
"That checks out I guess... So now that we know the whole story I guess move forward on our plans of getting Ravi and Adrian out of that house."
Victor cleared his throat and got our attention. "The drive... I got the code and what that drive contains can end the era of both Marcus and Samuel and now all we have to do is make a plan."
"Good now John, it's all up to you now." I turned to look at Nate... I am guessing he is coming along too. "How are you going to get us in?"
