1894 Encountering an Ambush
Anthea raised her head to gaze at the canyon, her eyes regaining their sharpness.
The setting sun revealed an incomplete portion of the canyon.
Nightfall was imminent, only two hours away.
As the team began to enter the canyon passage, the formation gradually stretched out.
They ventured into the winding canyon.
At a particular turn, Anthea sniffed the air, detecting a strong, pungent scent of blood.
Something felt off. Anthea raised an eyebrow as she noticed fresh blood stains on the ground.
This was not right!
Anthea's heart skipped a beat. She swiftly waved her hand, signaling the team to halt, and scanned the surroundings with vigilance.
Be careful! Stop moving forward and be on alert!"
The army stopped halfway and stood guard.
A Holy Paladin's vice-captain of the Holy Court approached Anthea, asking in a low voice, "Commander Anthea, what's happening?"
"Blood. The scent of blood is intense here. There was a recent battle."
"What's wrong?"
The players at the party couldn't help but feel puzzled.
"The Enkama Empire has guards outside the canyon. There shouldn't be this much blood inside, and the blood is fresh. I didn't see any traces this morning."
Others gradually realized that something was amiss.
"It's not safe here. Retreat!"
Before the team could react, black shadows suddenly emerged from the canyon's passage!
The shadows swiftly came near the army.
Ghouls?
Everyone's expression changed upon seeing this.
In the dim canyon, it was hard to see clearly, but a large group of red creatures rushed toward them!
Zombie creatures kept falling from both sides of the canyon!
"Be cautious! It's an undead ambush!"
Anthea drew her sword, shouting for the team to stay calm and fight strategically.
The Lickers moved incredibly fast. In a brief moment, the soldiers at the front were brought down by the swift onslaught.
The battle erupted instantly.
"D*mned undead! They're ambushing us here!"
"Eliminate them!"
The Holy Court knights at the rear immediately wielded their holy swords, joining the fray.
At the back of the team, the players who had entered the canyon were shocked.
These weren't ghouls!
Ghouls were indeed agile creatures, but their speed couldn't match the red creatures before them!
Wasn't this a Licker from the Zombie Apocalypse game?
They were not mistaken! It was a Licker!
Whoosh! Whoosh!
The group of Lickers closed in from all directions, encircling the Jones Kingdom team at the forefront and launching a frenzied attack!
From behind and on both sides, an increasing horde of zombie creatures swarmed toward the team.
As soon as they clashed, Anthea immediately recognized the formidable strength of the enemy, beads of cold sweat forming on her forehead.
Something was amiss!
The strength of these summoned undead creatures was terrifyingly high!
Where did they come from?
The canyon's terrain was already challenging, and the sudden ambush caught them wrong guard. The ordinary soldiers from the Jones Kingdom lacked advanced combat skills, falling into a disadvantage.
"Retreat! Retreat first!"
Fortunately, the team hadn't ventured deep into the canyon, leaving room for recovery.
Anthea shouted, aiming to shield the team as they strategically withdrew.
The players who had entered into the canyon with the team were bewildered.
These zombies and Lickers were unlike any they had faced before.

Even their combined tries couldn't get rid of a Licker.
The opponent's HP was ridiculously high!
Moreover, there was the chilling stun skill with rapid recovery!
"Look! That person!"
Engaged in combat with the Licker, a player observed the masked man standing not far away from the cliff, his eyes reflecting surprise.

The other two teammates also realized the Licker couldn't be vanquished. They swiftly retreated to the rear of the Holy Paladin team, glancing up at the rock wall.
"This... Is it him? Fang Heng?"
Jasmin observed Fang Heng from a distance, his heart filled with uncertainty. "Judging by the appearance, it seems like him. Fang Heng, the World Lord, has a deep connection with the practitioners of necromancy faction..."
"Yeah, I've heard about it. He can control zombie creatures..."
"If he comes over, it would make sense."
"I've also heard that the disappearance of the Holy Court's Saintess, Viona, might be related to Fang Heng."
With this analysis, the players felt like they had found the answer.
No wonder they couldn't defeat him.
Now, they were all facing the same opponents.
These creatures were not ghouls or ordinary zombies. They were enhanced versions of zombies and Lickers from the Zombie Apocalypse world!
He had heard various rumors, claiming that Fang Heng could control a large number of enhanced zombies and Lickers.
There were even enhanced Tyrant creatures.
He had direct control over the entire Zombie Apocalypse world.
Someone who could challenge the Federation!
If the person wearing the mask was indeed Fang Heng...
Just as they were pondering this, Jasmin suddenly felt a tightening in his chest. He was like prey that had been targeted, and his entire body tensed up to the extreme.
The young man wearing the mask also observed them and locked eyes with them.
Not good!
Jasmin's heart trembled.
He was almost certain.
That person was undoubtedly World Lord Fang Heng!
Even if he was not, he was still a player at the power level of a World Lord!

The two sides were not on the same level from the start!
