52 ONE LAST WISH

After sending a group message to everyone that I’m going to be a dad, I get inside Abby’s room. She’s still sleeping. The doctor advised rest for the night. It’s confirmed that Abby is indeed eight weeks pregnant.

So, this is what she’s been keeping from me all week.

I feel so relieved and happy at the same time. Is she trying to surprise me? Or she’s afraid to tell me? Now I know the feeling of becoming a father. It’s overwhelming and awesome.

Lincoln has been telling me to download an app on my phone to monitor the development of the baby in Abby’s womb. When I roll my eyes, he snatches the phone from my hand and downloads it by himself.

I sneer. “You got paid because of my stock market, you airhead.”

He gives me a side glance. “You’re boring. How did Abby survive with you?”

He laughs. “That I don’t wanna know. Now, she’s knocked up.”

I smile and shake my head. “I can’t believe that I’m gonna be a dad. Should you teach me how to change a diaper?”

He grins. “Double my salary, and I’ll show you.”

I roll my eyes again. “It’s free from Youtube, you mutt.”

He barks out laughing, making Abby stir. Lincoln freezes, whispers his apology, and motions to go outside.

I nod and sit on the empty chair beside Abby’s bed. The last time I was in the hospital was when she was kidnapped by that son of a bitch. Right now, I’m here for the great news. I’m going to be a father, and we’re going to be parents. I hold her hand when she stirs.

She blinks and observes her surrounding before she looks at me. I’m already smiling at her. She swallows and looks horrified, and blinks again.

“Hey, baby. Welcome back. You almost gave me a heart attack.” I kiss her lips and on her forehead. I press my nose to hers and kiss her once again. “The doctor said you’d be fine. You and our baby are safe and doing great.”

She freezes for a moment before she shakes to cry. Her tears just roll down her beautiful face.

“Baby, I don’t mean to upset you. Hey, calm down, my love. It’s okay. Don’t upset yourself, and you’re upsetting our baby too.”

I wipe her tears and rub her arms as I try cooing her.

I observe her for a while. Doesn’t she want my baby? I know she’s still young, but it hurts like hell. No matter how much I love Abby, I also love the baby in her belly.

“I’m so sorry, Sebastian. I’m so sorry. I don’t mean to get pregnant. I’m so sorry. I thought I didn’t miss my pills, but when that bastard took me, I missed the two days.”

She sobs. “I don’t wanna get knocked up to get you tied up to me. I swear to God, it’s not my intention. I still don’t forget about our arrangements. I know you don’t want this, and I promise you that I will leave soon and stay with Dad, I can’t get rid of my baby, Sebastian.” She sobs so much, and I’m just staring at her, in shock, and she keeps on babbling, and I’m starting to dislike it.

“I love my baby. I’ve been trying to tell you all week, but I know you’d be furious. I don’t want you to get mad at me. I’m so sorry for being so irresponsible.”

I swallow, and I can’t even say a word. She keeps saying my and not ours. I’ve been over the moon since she came into my life, now I find out that she’s pregnant with my baby, it doubles the happiness.

We didn’t talk about babies, I get it, but I’ve been dreaming of a family with her. She might think that I won’t love the idea of her being pregnant.

Now I’m getting the point of having this app on my phone. I hug her tight and bury my face in the nook of her neck as I hush her and rub her back.

She cries even more. Jesus. I giggle, and I don’t know why. I pull myself away from her while she’s wiping her face. I offer her tissue, and she takes it then blows her nose. She’s still sniffing then finally looks at me. Finally, because I missed her big green eyes. I give her the sweetest smile I can muster.

She creases her eyebrows.

“Stupid hormone,” I say while smiling at her. “When is your plan on telling me that you’re pregnant, Abbygail? When I almost had a heart attack when I heard you talking over the phone that you were moving your appointment? I thought you’re sick, and I thought the puking was some symptoms that I don’t wanna even think about. Jesus, baby. We’ve been through hell together, especially you, and may I remind you again that we promised each other that no more secrets between us. I want to spank your gorgeous ass for not telling me.”

I cup her face. “You didn’t plan on this, and it’s our baby, Abbygail. Let me tell you something. When you kicked me out of your apartment, I called my parents and told them that I’m married to you. Mom and dad were very happy. They laughed their asses out of me of being kicked out by a woman, by my wife, and the last thing they asked me was grandchildren. That moment all I could think was you having my babies, and how you’d be a great mother. We didn’t talk about this, yeah, but it’s on the tip of my tongue. I just don’t wanna frighten you of being a young mom after what you’ve suffered at a young age.” I pause, and she’s listening.

Good. I continue, “When the doctor asked me what happened to you, I told her you fainted and I told her what I’ve been noticing with you lately. Then she told me that you’re probably pregnant.” I pause again.

“Do you know what I did?”

She looks at me with her big eyes, then shakes her head.

I smile. “I hugged her, and she laughed at me. I walked out of that room, grinning like a Cheshire cat, and the first words came out from my mouth to Lincoln was Abby’s pregnant. We hugged and laughed like some stupid. He even downloaded an app for me, see?” I show her my app on my phone. She takes it from me and checks it out.

“We’re gonna be parents, Abbygail, and you’re not alone with this. I’m here for you. We did this together, and we would do this together till the end.”

She sighs.

“What’s that for?” I ask her.

“I’m not forcing you to take responsibility.”

I chuckle. “Responsibility my ass. My baby, my responsibility. My wife is my responsibility. Congratulations, Abbygail, and to me.”

I kiss her lips and bit her lower lip as her punishment. She moans. When I release her lip, she touches it and scowls.

“That’s for not telling me and thinking that I don’t like the idea of you being pregnant, and hh, you’d be pregnant again.”

She smiles, then she scowls again. “I’m not just gonna pop out babies, Sebastian.”

“Wow! Good to see you all guys again.” I snort.

I roll my eyes.

“Oh, my god, Macky. I’m gonna be a godmother!” Rebecca is jumping up and down.

“I want a girl. I’ll paint her fingernails and toenails and braid her hair. Yay!” Trix giggles with Rebecca.

I just shake my head, and I can’t believe they’re more excited than me. Okay, I’m excited, but it cools down a little bit. Everyone hugs and congratulate me after Abby. I guess that’s the perk of being pregnant. I’m just the second rate. Jesus, am I jealous of attention? That’s my baby and my wife, after all. I grin. I guess I’m not dreaming, and I’m going to be a dad.

“Sweetheart, you left your Vitamins in your nightstand. Here, I bring them to you.” Mike gives Abby two bottles of vitamins.

“Mike, you knew that Abby’s pregnant, and I didn’t know about it? You didn’t even try telling me?”

He shrugs. “Being surprised is a hell lot of fun. You’re gonna be a dad, son. Congratulations!”

He hugs me. “I guess Catie was right after all.”

I smile. “And you’re getting old, grandpa.”

“What about mom?” We both look at Abby.

“Oh, pumpkin. Your mom just played matchmaker. She was planning on setting up both of you on a date. She said she could see both of you getting married one day, have babies, and things like that.”

Abby smiles and shakes her head.

“If you’re having a boy, Sebby. You’ll name him after me.” Patrick wiggles his eyebrows.

I snort. “Over my dead fucking body, Patty. I won’t name my son after an asshole. I’m the father so, he would definitely be IV.” I glare at Patrick.

“Watch your language, Sebastian. You don’t wanna teach your son with cuss, do you?” Abby looks irritated.

“Oops, sorry.” I give her a guilty look.

“Well, I have another room to redecorate.” Mom claps her hands together. Trixie’s eyes glimmer. “ And I have shopping to do.” She giggles with Rebecca.

“And what about me?” My wife asks.

“Oh, just sit pretty and eat ice cream. Ice cream, huh?” Rebecca asks.

Abby just shrugs. “I’m hungry. I want ice cream.” Everyone looks at me.

“What?” I’m confused.

“Christ, Seb. When it comes to Abby, you’re turning into a blockhead.” Lincoln look amused.

“Getting you ice cream, wife.” I kiss her forehead and leave.

“Seb? Stay here, man. We’re just teasing you, I’m going to buy some ice cream for all of us since Abby girl can’t drink champagne for a toast. Logan coming or not?” Mason saves my ass. Yeah, why didn’t I think of that? I have men at my disposal. I mean great friends.

Everyone got their ice cream. Dad raises his cone. “For Abby and Seb and baby King-Hughes.”

Everyone toasts and I sit in Abby’s bed.

“I have one last wish, baby.”

She looks at me. “What is it?”

“We’ll name after your mom if it’s a girl.”

She smiles and nods. “And if it’s a boy, we’ll name after my husband?” she asks shyly.

I kiss her lips.

“Catherine Elizabeth Hughes,” she says.

“Sebastian Christopher Hughes IV,” I murmur.

“So many Sebastian in the family.” We laugh out loud, causing everyone to stop and look at us.
