I CHÓRA TOU VULCAN
~The King and Queen~
"Are you sure that was Poseidon? I do not mean to pervert your judgement or ridicule your words of course. But I'm just worried that setting the people on a verge for what we're not really sure about could be detrimental to both us and them."
Vulcan took a break, taking a peek at his queen, his love, his woman, Athena. They were standing before the huge gate of the city which had recently been changed. The ramparts were under construction, and the borders of the village were the large forest to the West, rows of mountains to the East, the large lake to the North, and the desert of bones to the South.
You could say that the settlement was a plague or Completion of existence in itself. But many of the people living in the land had no faintest idea of the desert of bones and the large lake.
Everyone knew about the forest but only few knew about the rows of mountains. The former king didn't really have a reason to go to war, thereby keeping the citizens under his close watch. And do not be surprised, if the people figure out about what was on their South and North, they might come to the conclusion that twas an aftermath of Athena's power, blessings and wills.
Many more men had joined the progress of the rampart. Men, even at that moment, kept migrating from goodness knew where to the land. Many had forgotten that they used to suffer or used to be insecure. But the new scar on their heart was the clamor of Poseidon which Vulcan had kept quiet until that moment to bring up.
He had had it in mind to discuss it with her but the past month had been rather busy for the both of them.
"I'm glad you talked about it eventually."
Athena smiled and looked away to one of the men who almost lost his balance on the oak ladder holding up the workers. The blue laser which shot from her left eye prevented the man from falling. To the man of course, he had been smart enough not to had fallen.
"But it's disturbing that twas with doubt you mentioned it. The doubt of your lover."
The words sounded bitter but her expression said otherwise. She kept that smooth sheet of smile on her beautiful face.
"I know I shouldn't doubt you but I simply couldn't help it anymore. The stronger I thought I was, the more I lied to myself and I am done doing that."
She nodded, and did the ritual; occasionally looking away from him to the workers.
"Shall we go clear our doubts then? Shall we pay a visit to him?"
"But I thought you said you do not know where he is. At least that was what you said to the people."
The gaze he held that moment was tantamount to an ogle. Probably a glare mashed by disbelief.
"What do you think? If I had told the people that Poseidon lives in the outskirt of the forest which borders our land, wouldn't they had gone there to fish him out? And what would had made of them? Wouldn't they be desserts for his insatiable hunger?"
"Does he eat human?"
His eyes widened.
"Oh, my Lord. Forgive me, I thought you were already acquainted with the allegorical implications of my words."
Vulcan didn't give a specific expression,
"Maybe you forgot that I'm just a mortal."
"Maybe. Most times I wish you were a god. Like me."
Her tone softened and her countenance fell. Obviously that wasn't close to her best mood.
"But it's also a relief. I could take you with me again to father. He could find a way to immortalize your mortal draw."
"That would be kind of you."
He moved closer to her and wounded his arm around her waist. She chuckled.
"Tell me more about Poseidon and what you meant earlier."
"Thought you weren't interested."
"Fair enough."
He muttered. They began to walk along the path of the rampart, of course stirring clear of anything dangerous. But seriously, what could be dangerous when your lover is a goddess.
"His insatiable thirst points at me."
"At you?"
She nodded. A hasty lump paced his throttle. She continued,
"He would not give up until he gets either you or me. He wants you back in the depth of the sea. He argued that he wouldn't let go, that you both have unfinished businesses. Things you didn't get to do before I came to your rescue."
She wounded her arm around his waist too and they made a pair. She moved closer to him and held his face with her other hand. She kissed him quickly and let go. They resumed the pace as she continued.
"And since I came to your rescue, he demanded that I give what is impossible, become his lover. Become his queen, when my passion and desires had been sold to you."
He shot her a quick glance. There was peace seeped in it. He squeezed her waist gently to emphasize how pleased he was.
"With the forced help of father, I was able to save you and leave the ocean. But he won't give up until he has either of us. And would keep taking new forms while hunting either of us till he gets what he wants. If you think he would give up, forget it. He never had and never will."
He sighed.
"And what do you think his plan is?"
"He doesn't have a special plan. He would do whatever that pops up in his mind just to make his wish come to pass."
"We would not let that, would we?"
His face stern now as he halted and made her.
"I'm not willing to lose you, my Lord. I don't know about you."
He let go of her waist at that and held her face in his hands. He pulled her closer without her attestation and pressed his lips on hers, ravaging hers.
"I've never and will never love a woman except you, Athena."
She kissed him back and mumbled into his mouth. She let go,
"Let's go to the Colosseum and see how far they've gone with the work. And if you think it right, I could always take you to Poseidon's hide."
They headed back to the gate of the village as he argued,
"You could had built all with your magic. The ramparts, forts and Colosseum."
She chuckled,
"But what's the fun in that?"
He shot a glance at her, giving the I-give-up sigh. She smiled at him and held his hand. Off they went, reaped by the winds.
