Chapter 8 Fear
"Nothing." I answered plainly, we are watching a movie entitled 'Twilight' it's a great movie but then again it's just fiction, made out of imagination and not reality.
Carlo was worried when I did not come home for three months, he told me that he tried coming, but he got lost and has been lurking around the street for 5 days. Huh.
He defended himself by saying he's good at fighting but not in directions. Tch.
I looked at him, he is looking at me playfully. Suddenly, his face turned serious. "I heard your dad talking to his phone, I mean to someone with his phone yesterday, he said 'I think she's ready. It's time to take her in the cave for a week'." he mimicked my dad's voice.
"We need to prepare, if he thinks you're ready, it might be the most difficult part" he patted my shoulder "he will put you in a cave for a week, we need to prepare the things you needed. Tell me anything you might need."
I shove his hand out of my shoulder "I don't care how difficult it will be, it doesn't matter." Looking back in the TV.
"What do you mean doesn't matter?!" His voice rose which made me looked at him, confused "It might get you killed!" He snapped.
This time I laughed but I produce an evil laugh, he looked scared for a moment, what? Do I look that bad on laughing? So, I stopped "Killed?" I stand up and leaned on his now questioning face "I'm long dead, and if my heart stops pumping blood, that's a gift I yearned for years."
I stand straight and walked away, wanting to go inside my room, he might be my bestfriend but he doesn't have the right to get mad.
I stopped in my thoughts when a hand holds my wrist making me turned face to face with him. I'm shocked to see his watery eyes.
"Don't say that please, you're the only family I have left ever since my whole family died... I felt nothing, my heart was broken into pieces but when I met you," he breathed in, closing his eyes and opened it once again then continued "I made a reason to live because I made a bestfriend and a sister that I have to protect. You gave me a reason in life, you've been my strength." He sobbed "I know you are there listening to me. I'm begging you, don't take it away from me. Stay alive." he said looking straight into my eyes, with tears flowing down his cheeks, it seems like he's looking for something inside me...
Every Sunday for the past years, Carlo became my best friend and my brother. He always tried making me laugh but he did not succeed, coz' I think, he's dumb. But smirk became my emoji for him that never leave my face if he joked around.
He's also bossy for being overprotective... What a child, I rolled my eyes at the thought, bringing me back to the present.
I looked down from his gaze, the pain is nothing to me... Should I give myself a life of more years in hell? Should I give myself chances to smell my own blood for more years?
He's selfish! I looked at his hoping eyes once again.
Suddenly, a picture of my mom smiling with eyes full of dreams for me popped up on my mind and Carlo's cheered face with eyes full of life. Am I willing to sacrifice my peacefulness to battle for that?
It took time for me to answer but I nodded while looking on his face "I'll try to survive." His face lights up and he wiped off his tears using the back of his hands, he smiled so wide.
"Thank you so much, little princess." He said with a hug, he pulled out.
"Now, what do I need?" I asked, tch. I know that he knew what I needed. He might have been preparing it.
"Ow about that, wait here." He ran up to the guest room, his room. Yup, he lives here ever since dad introduced him to me. I walked back to the couch we were sitting on earlier.
Then he came back with a backpack. See? He's prepared! That's how overprotective he is.
"Here's your things, every basic need in a camp is already in there. Flashlight, foods, I only put easy-open canned goods, good for a week and biscuits, a blanket it's kinda small but suits your body, a lighter, a knife and a little gun. There are others that I can't say all at once, I forgot." He scratched the back of his neck.
"It's fine you don't need to tell me, I will see it by then." I said, "thank you."
He smiled so bright "No worries princess, but remember this, don't take that bag out of your hold once that old man will take you from here." He said, his eyes are getting dark the moment he mentioned that old man.
I nodded at him, I put the bag down and pulled him in a hug, he hugged me back, soothing my back for the comfort that I needed.
This night mom sleeps with me, every night she read a story to make me fall asleep, tonight it's about a story of a little girl lost in a forest, where she made friend with a wolf that helped her get out of the forest. The wolf stayed with her for days until the end of the forest, where her family is waiting for her return.
"You know sweetie, every creature in this world has their weakest and softest spot, and that is what you have to find out." I looked at her and she seems to stare out of the wall, mesmerizing something, so I just let her and she added "Your father is the ruthless person I had ever met, do you know that he killed so many people and I thought he would kill me too, but he gave me a chance and as time goes by I'm getting to know your father and I did not realize I'm falling for him, and that was the moment I'd known his softest side, which made him fall in love with me too." She smiled softly looking at me.
"Always remember, be brave and be smart those are the greatest weapon in the battle. Now, time to go to sleep." She kissed my forehead and I closed my eyes, I felt her lay down in my bed. Softest side.
