Chapter 34
Tonya POV
I work from home again today. I do not feel like getting out with everything that is going on in the area right now. Heath has checked on me constantly to make sure I am okay. I have assured him a thousand times that I am fine. He is charming. It is kind of weird for me to have someone in my life that shows concern for me.
Melanie has text me a few times, but she has kept her questions short and sweet. She is pretty odd. Which she is strange, but this is more than the usual. I would love to know what happened between her and Dakota. I cannot believe for one second that he would hurt anyone. She was willing to be with him and wanting him. Something about all of this does not add up to me.
I feel like there is something I am missing in all of this. I pull up my search bar and begin to search Melanie Black. I want to know if this girl has ever been arrested or has been involved with anything unusual.
Her name begins to come up with several pictures and some strange incidents that happened in other states. Fuck this. I am going to search court records.
I pull up the court records search into my browser window. I type in Melanie Black, and I wait. I decide to make myself a glass of tea while I wait. I go into the kitchen and put my kettle on to brew. I grab a coffee cup and add some sugar to it. I pour a cup of tea into my coffee cup and carry it back to my home office. I blow on the tea as I sit down in front of my computer.
Holy shit! There are pages of court cases tied to her name. I begin sorting the cases and going through everything she has been involved in over the years. It is unreal. Stalking two years ago, kidnapping three years ago, aggravated assault two years ago, I have to get out of here. She could come after me.
I grab my phone and text Heath, *please come here as quickly as you can* he texts right back *on my way*
I lock all of my doors and begin checking my windows. This new information completely freaks me out. How in the hell did I get my ass all wrapped up in this crazy shit? I know I am a little vindictive and maybe a little jealous, but I have never done this shit. She is not as innocent as she made herself out to be to me.
Heath is at the side door by the time that I am almost in a complete panic. I open the door for him. “Get inside,” I say to him.
“What the hell is going on with you?” Heath asks me.
“Follow me, and I will show you,” I say to him.
I take him into my home office. “Sit down at my desk and read,” I say to him.
He begins going through all of the cases involving her. He reads each one thoroughly. “There is one that is not one here,” Heath says to me.
“What do you mean?” I ask him.
“There was a guy that went missing last year after he broke up with her; my daughter is investigating the case,” Heath says to me.
“You have a daughter?” I ask him.
“Yes, I do. She is a damn good private investigator,” Heath says.
“She is investigating Melanie?” I ask.
“Yes, she is looking into something about Melanie for a client,” Heath says.
“I am not getting involved, and I know that you had more to do with Dakota and Melanie than you originally told me. I don’t have to know all of your dirty laundries, but I do expect you to be honest with me about anything as we advance,” Heath says.
I sit down beside Heath. “So you still want to see me?” I ask him.
“Tonya, I think you might of given that girl a little push but trust me when I say she was already there. Maybe you were bored; maybe you enjoyed the drama, I really do not know. What I do know is I like being with you, and I want to see you, so whatever was going on or whatever you were planning, just stop. Let it go,” Heath says to me.
“I can do that. Do you want to know the details of my relationship with Dakota?” I ask him.
“I run the security at the resort, trust me when I say I know more than you do about your relationship with Dakota,” Heath says.
“Then why in the hell did you talk to me in the first place?” I ask him.
“I think there is more to you than all of this; whatever this game is, you’re playing with all of these young guys. That is all it is, just a game. It is just a game. It is time for you to act your age,” Heath says to me.
He is right; I need to stop being so stupid. “I do not know what to say to you about all of this,” I say to him.
“There is nothing to say or do; why don’t the two of us just move forward,” Heath says.
“What should I do about Melanie?” I ask him.
“For starters, cut all communication with her. If she comes here, call the police immediately. I can stay here at night with you until all of this is settled if you want me to stay here with you,” Heath says.
“Sure, you can sleep on the couch,” I say to him.
“No way in hell will I be sleeping on the couch. You could stay with me at my place, or I could put you in a room at the resort so I could keep a good eye on you,” Heath says.
“You would really look out for me?” I ask him.
“Yes, I would,” Heath says.
I get out of my chair and sit in his lap. I lean down and kiss him. He is the sweetest man I have ever met.
