Chapter 32 Speed of Light

Alexie

Pandemonium has struck before the sun has set. Screams and shouts echoed throughout the pack.

Warriors, vampire fighters, and she-wolves hospital staff were severely injured.

Blood bathed the white tiles of the infirmary.

How could this happen? They were careful and the whole pack was well guarded.

They had lost two queens. And she was on the verge of a miscarriage.

The stress and worry had taken a huge chunk of strength from her.

"Fuck, Lex! If you are not going to lay on that bed, I am going to tie you in chains! See if I don't." Sofia cried while she tended to her. Both of them can smell the blood trickling down her thighs.

Alexandria nodded numbly. Letting the doctors work on her.

Michael.

He was too far for a mindlink. Nevertheless, she knew he could feel her pain and sorrow.

"Royal Beta, I will inject you with a double dose of Makena, it's a hydroxyprogesterone caproate that helps in lowering the risk for preterm birth or in your case a miscarriage. I will also give you a steady dose of Human chorionic gonadotropin in a two-hour interval after this. Do you understand?" The kind doctor explained what he was doing.

She blinked and shake her head yes. Anything to save her pup. She didn't know she was crying until Rie wiped her face. Anna Marie's tears flowed with hers.

The anguish of their missing sisters too much to bear.

"Princess Alexandria, I need to put you to sleep. Complete bed rest is necessary. This is Propofol it slows the activity of your brain and nervous system. So you can relax, ok?" His kind eyes made her give him her consent.

"Sofia..." She whispered weakly. Sleep was claiming her.

"We will save our sisters, Lex. Rie and I will make sure of it. I will contact our men now. Rest, Alexie." Sofia combed her hair gently, soothingly, lulling her to sleep.

-Michael, please come home, my love.-

Michael

Fuck! It was half-past midnight and yet they have a pile of bodies to burn.

He wondered how his mate was doing. The time difference should make it around 5:30 in the afternoon in New York City.

Does she have a new craving this time? Last time she made him bake anchovy cupcakes with chocolate chips. He wanted to gag but dare not.

She happily ate a dozen of them. His lips curve a bit. Glad his warriors were not watching his love-struck expression.

The pain came out of nowhere, he doubled over, falling to his knees. What the...!

-Alexandria.-

Shit! He couldn't breathe. It burned his abdomen. Sonofabitch!

-Something is wrong, Xander!

-Almost done, beta. We will move out in an hour. Call our pack, please.

Two of his men help him up. The kings were on a strategic mission. Planning.  They wanted to flush out Victor without any more bloodshed.

While Oliver and he supervised the clearing operation.

Everything was stopped. He needed to call home and hear Alexie's voice.

"Where the hell is my phone!?" Michael hurriedly searched the pockets of his jacket and his pants. Damn it! He must have lost it during the fight.

"Oliver, do you have a phone?" His friend nodded. Throwing the device at him.

"You have 20 miscalls from your beloved, man." Oliver looked alarmed. Eyes wide. Yeah! They could fight monsters by the hundreds without breaking a sweat yet one miscall from wifey scared the hell out of them.

"Shit! It's on silent." Michale gave him the phone back so he can call his beloved.

"Hey, sweetheart..." The breath left his body. They both listened to Sofia's frantic voice, Oliver fared no better. Shit has happened.

"Come home now! We have lost the queens. Dark magic. We don't know how it happened and we couldn't explain either. Just come home! Oliver! Tell Michael, his mate needs him. His pup..."

His friend let him snatched the phone from him without complaint.

"What happened to Alexie, Sofia?" Michael's voice was shaky.

"Michael!? She needs you. Your mate was on the verge of miscarriage but don't worry, the bleeding has stopped." He couldn't speak anymore. He gave the phone back and trudged straight to the Castle's conference room.

He opened the door without knocking. All eyes turned to him, surprised at the rude interruption. Oliver was close behind.

"My kings," Michael gulped. Hell will break loose after this announcement. "We have lost the Queens. Dark magic. We need the High Priestess."

As expected, chaos has erupted.

Alexander

"Arhhhh!!!"  The hard oak table smashed on the brick walls. In mid-shift, he trembled, trying to restrain himself. His beast howled in pain.

His Anna May.

"Sire, the jets are ready." He could hear his beta from the distance. Why couldn't he function? He fucking needed to. Anna was counting on him.

Xavier was no better. He has left the room to smash anything onsite. Even cutting the half-dead enemies to pieces.

"Fuck! Alexander! Your queen needs you. Snap out of it. Gather the men. We will be leaving now, Michael." Lucifer took control. Thank God for his strong constitution and functioning brain.

"The cars are ready, " Oliver announced. All the gadgets and weapons on his arms.

"Xavier has calmed down. I will fly to Esmeralda's coven. Expect us at mid-morning at least." With those parting words, Lucas hurriedly left the room.

He heard Xavier and Lucas barking orders. Then car doors slamming.

He followed them. His mate was still alive. There was hope yet. He needed his head on the game. Find clues. He will go to the ends of the earth to find her.

And he will find her.

All his life, he had never known fear, suddenly, he was filled to the brim with it. That became his fuel to function.

The ride to the private runway in Budapest took forever.

They had to endure a few more hours to get to New York. Shit!

How he wished someone could knock him out and wake him when they land in New York. Fat chance of that.

Instead, they concentrated on the news blackout. They do not want anyone else on the High Council to know. At this point, they couldn't trust anyone outside their circle.

He opened himself for his mate, reaching her soul through their bond. He can feel her. She was resting. It meant she has not awakened despite being kidnapped and she was not in pain.

Alexander was out of the car as soon as it stopped at the pack hospital's entrance.

Blood hit his nostrils. Different scents. Vampires and werewolves. Who the fuck was the adversary and how did he get in? He has injured both security teams to the brink of death. They were the most elite left behind to guard the queens.

"I want CCTV recordings on all corners of the pack, including the ones hidden in the forest." A warrior runs to do his bidding.

His angry strides brought him to his mate's room. Dark vines fell from the ceiling. A burned circle surrounded where Anna's bed once resided. Dark fucking scheme. Either a warlock or a dark witch.

He had seen enough. They need Esmeralda's experience. She will know what has transpired here.

The next destination in mind was his sister's room. Michael's pained expression twisted his guts. He was holding his mate's hand like a lifeline.

Alexandria was resting. Her face and lips drained of color.

"How is she, Michael?" He asked gruffly.

"She hasn't lost our pup, Alexander." Goddess. Help us. "She's a fighter."

"Stay with her, beta." He used his Alpha command. It left no room for argument.

"But, my king..." He knew his beta was loyal to the core, he will even lay down his life for his king. For him. Nevertheless, his duty was to his mate first. Alexander's sister needed Michael more than he does.

"It's an order. Stay with her." The beta nodded reluctantly. The Lycan King bent down to kiss his sister's forehead. Then he laid his hand on her tummy, sharing some of his energy with the unborn pup.

Michael lifted his chin. Grateful for the blessing.

-It's time to find his mate.-

The vampire king has also gone to their bedroom. Desperate for clues.

The idea brings merit. He will sniff for clues around the house. The enemy must have gained the trust of the people before striking.
