Chapter 11 Painful Decisions
Luke Williams' Point of View:
I set my pen down and ran a hand down my face. It was a long day at the office, and it was even longer with all these interviews I had to do. I don't know what these women think would happen by then wearing short skirts and tight tops, but I need a good personal assistant and their resumes are not what I need.
I turned to face the glass wall I had in my office. It allowed me a great view of the city and I loved it. It calmed me and I really need some calm right now. I grabbed the final file that had the information for the final candidate of the day. Camilla Cortes, that was her name. She had a rather impressive resume, studied at Yale, and worked at a law firm for a while. Hailey had already gone to get her, so I just had to wait.
While her resume impressed me, her personality would determine whether or not I hired her. I didn't need someone like Alice. She was my personal assistant for a while until we hooked up and it went downhill from there.
I heard the door open before I heard Hailey speak, "Luke dear, Miss Cortes is here"
"Send her in," I spoke.
I heard the door close and heels clinking against the floor as she walked towards my desk.
"You may sit"
I could hear her mumble a thank you in reply and her voice sounding exquisite to my ears. I sat still for about two minutes before I finally decided to look at her. She was stunning. I couldn't tear my gaze away from her. Her outfit fit her perfectly. She looked breathtaking with her dark hair and brown eyes. It took me a whole second to realize that she was checking me out also.
"Like what you see?" I asked with a smirk on my face.
She looked stunned at my question before a smirk settled on her face, "I'm just surprised that you’re not a lot older"
I couldn't help but be surprised by what she said. She has a feisty attitude which was really attractive. I liked her. I liked her a lot. I hired her on spot. She was confused by me hiring her which I found very endearing. She'd get the rundown from Hailey so I told her she could leave. It was a real struggle to not run after her as I watched her hips sway.
After I finished up some work, I called my brother who kept raving about this girl he met at the store. He kept on asking me to go with him to his club, but I was honestly not in the mood to party. That was until he mentioned that the girl's name was Camilla. I agreed right away, I wasn't sure if the Camilla I met today was the same one my brother met it could all just be a coincidence, but I had to see for myself.
Turns out it was the same Camilla that I hired that same day. I don't know what's going on, but I was going to find out.
"So, Miss Cortes," I spoke "it’s quite surprising seeing you here"
I loved the blush that settled on her cheeks. She looked like she was born to be here but also looked ready to leave.
"Yeah, well I've never been a fan of clubs, I was just so excited that I accepted Nate's offer," she smiled.
I turned to face her, "How'd you meet my dear brother anyway?"
She took a sip of the drink Nate got her, "we met at the store; I had no idea who he was at the time not to mention that he was your brother"
It was so strange but the way she looked at me when she said that I could tell she wasn't lying. That made this so much harder for me because I liked her. I asked her to dance and surprisingly enough she was an excellent dancer.
"You're a fairly good dancer," I complimented her.
"I try," she grinned at me as I twirled her around and pulled her back into my arms.
"Have you been in the area long?" I asked curiously.
"Alex and I moved here a few months ago, I needed a change of scenery and Alex is just so awesome that she agreed to come with me"
"And how do you like New York so far? Is it what you thought it would be?" I probed.
"It’s rather interesting that I can tell you, my mother always wanted me to come here for some reason, but she's never told me why," she confessed.
"Well, I'm sure she's happy that you're here now, and working for one of the most eligible bachelors in New York, no less," I teased.
She pulled away from me when I said that. She looked conflicted and dare I say hurt.
"I'm not a gold digger Mr. Williams," she snapped at me "and quite frankly with that arrogant attitude of yours I don't know what women see in you"
She stomped over to the bartender and started taking shots.
"I think you've had enough"
"N-no I haven't," she giggled and grabbed another drink "sit down have a drink"
"Look at you, brooding and wearing a suit," she handed one of her shots to me "you should really loosen up"
She was right. I wasn't working now so I should be able to relax.
We danced the night away and went back to my place to have mind-blowing sex. It was a great night. It’s been a while since I've seen her, and I honestly can't wait. As I sat in my office, I waited for her to come to me. I already knew she was here because I saw her when she entered the building on the security cameras. In the meantime, I decided to get some work done.
I heard a knock on the door and intuitively knew it was Camilla because Hailey doesn't knock, "come in"
"I've brought you coffee," she held up the cup to show me.
I slowly stood up and walked towards her. I took the cup and popped the lid off, sipping the coffee softly. I put the cup on the other side of the table and wrapped my arms around her waist pulling her towards me.
"What are you doing?" she pressed me.
"Getting my morning kiss," that I crashed my lips to hers and kissed her deeply.
She jumped away from me when there was a knock at the door, "Luke dear Andre is here to see you"
She quickly pulled away from me and fixed her attire. She looked at me and with a sigh used her thumb to wipe the lip gloss off my lips. She smiled at me and I smiled in return.
"Send him in Hailey"
Andre walked in and immediately his eyes were drawn to Camilla, "Andre meet my new personal assistant, Camilla "
"It’s nice to meet you," she smiled slightly as he shook her hand. She looked like she couldn't wait to get out of here.
"Is there anything else that you need Luke?" she asked.
"There are a couple files on your desk you can get started on organizing those," I smirked as I went around my desk and sat in my chair.
She rolled her eyes and went to open the door, "I'll get right on it"
As soon as she left Andre looked at me with raised brows. We talked about the business before his lingering stares finally got to me.
"Is there a problem?" I pressed him.
"How long have you been sleeping with your new assistant?"
I snapped at him, "don't you dare talk about her that way"
"So, you are sleeping with her," he shook his head "I thought you learned your lesson after what happened with Alice"
"She is nothing like Alice," I roared, "I think its best you leave"
He sighed and stood to his feet, "I'm not trying to upset you my friend but how much do you even know about her?"
"You were a wreck after what happened with Alice, I'm just looking out for you," he left slamming the door after him.
I breathe deeply as I thought about what he said. He was right, I haven't known Camilla long. I'm rushing into things just like I did with Alice and that landed me with a broken heart. As much as I liked Camilla I don't want to be hurt again.
I pressed the intercom and asked her to come to me, "Come to my office please"
I ended up pacing because I was so anxious wondering if I was about to do the right thing or not.
"Are you okay?" she asked me.
I looked at her intently before looking away, she was so tempting, "this can't happen"
I used my hand to gesture between the two of us, "whatever this is...it can't happen"
"What? why?" asked gently.
I ignored her and looked at the view. I wanted to tell her why, but I didn't want to look weak.
"Why Luke?" she asked again.
I turned around and did what I did best I lashed out, "it's Mr. Williams to you, what happened was a mistake so let's just forget about it and move on"
She looked so sad that I wanted to just confess everything to her, but I didn't. I looked away.
"As you wish, Mr. Williams"
