Epilogue
Luke Williams' Point of View:
2 months later
My heart hammered against my chest as I ran a hand through my hair. It was finally here, my wedding day. Camilla didn't want to walk down the aisle with a pregnant belly, so we decided to have a winter wedding. The last few weeks were a bit stressful as we tried to plan our wedding as quickly and beautifully as possible. I said we but in truth Camilla did most of the work. We didn't have a wedding planner as Alex, my mom and Aunt Talia was all the help we needed. Aunt Talia had even taken a course when she had her first daughter for times like these.
Our wedding starts at one in the afternoon and it was correctly twelve-forty which meant I had exactly twenty minutes to get my act together. I was currently in the bathroom trying to not overthink. My mind kept creating scenarios where Camilla left me at the altar.
I jumped as there was a knock at the door.
"You okay bro?" Nate asked "you've been in there a while"
I opened the door and stepped out, "I'm fine"
Just then dad walked into the room. He took one glance at me and smiled knowingly. He walked towards me and gave me a quick pat on the shoulder.
"Don't worry son she'll show up," he smiled reassuringly.
"How'd you know that's what I was thinking about?" I asked shocked.
He chuckled softly, "I've married your mother twice now and both times I was praying she wouldn't leave me at the altar"
"You have nothing to worry about," Nate spoke up "Camilla loves you"
"It’s time to head out," Dad muttered as he glanced at his watch.
I nodded as I grabbed my suit jacket and followed him through the door. We had decided to have the wedding at my parent's house since the estate was large enough. The ceremony would be held in the back yard and the reception would be held at Nate's nearby hotel in the ballroom. We wanted an intimate wedding without the hassle of booking a venue.
Walking down the stairs I followed dad as he opened the glass doors that led to the backyard.
"I'll go get the girls," Dad grinned as he walked away.
Camilla didn't have any family that we knew of and so she didn't have anyone to walk her down the aisle. After having to console her I told her that she could always ask my dad to do it. Her face had brightened at the idea and the very next day she had me drive up to their house so she could ask him in person. When she had asked him, it grew silent and I swore I wouldn't have been able to hear a pin drop. Dad nodded his head as tears brimmed his eyes ever since then he's been excited for this day to come.
My eyes scanned the crowd as everyone turned to look at us. Taking a deep breath, I walked down the aisle greeting some of the people as I went. Nate followed behind me. I greeted the pastor and shook his hand. Nate did the same and we went to stand in our spots and waited for the ceremony to begin.
"Hey man relax," Nate whispered as he noticed me fidgeting.
"I'm trying to," I hissed as I glanced at my watch. It was now two minutes to one.
My eyes were glued to the glass doors as Aunt Talia suddenly walked through. Glued to her side was a small boy and girl who I recognized as her grandchildren, our flower girl and ring bearer. Soft classical music could be heard as Alex came into view. Nate gasped softly as Alex walked down the aisle. She looked beautiful and I could just imagine how much more stunning Camilla would look.
My eyes drifted towards Alex has she stood a few feet away from me as Camilla's maid of honour just has how Nate was my best man. I looked at her hoping she could hear my unspoken question. She smiled and nodded letting me know that Camilla was still here and hadn't ran away. I breathe a sigh of relief and brought my attention back to Aunt Talia. I watched as she handed the little girl a small basket filled with rose petals and gave the young boy a small pillow with our rings attached to it.
She spoke to them quietly and watched as the boy walked down the aisle with the pillow in his hands. The people gushed over how adorable he was with his black hair and grey eyes. Nate gestured for him to come over to him and he took the rings directing him to his parents. The little girl was next as she walked down the aisle throwing rose petals all over the ground until she directly in front of me. I leaned down to get a quick high five from her earning a laugh from her. Her grandfather, Greg, scooped her up and sat with her in his lap.
I stood back in my spot as the pastor came to stand at his place.
"It is time"
The slow classical music turned to an infamous song that everyone knew 'Here Comes The Bride'.
My heart stopped when I saw Camilla and my father walk into view. I was at a loss for words. She looked absolutely stunning, scratch that she was breath taking. I stared as she took slow steps towards me, her arm hooked through my dad's. Her dress was exquisite. Her dress was a full on ballgown. It was an off-white colour that complimented her skin tone perfectly. The lace was intricate and detailed, her arms were encased in sheer fabric with lace lining it. Her veil was covering her face, so I didn't get to see her completely.
Almost as if in a daze I watched as dad passed her to me. She handed her bouquet of roses to Alex. I held onto her hands tightly and led her to where she should stand. I took a step forward and held on to the end of the veil. I lifted it slowly until her face was revealed. Allowing the veil to slip from my fingers I stared at her. She was so beautiful. Her make-up was natural with a bit of eyeliner, mascara, and a nude lip.
"Wow,” breathed.
Her eyes travelled down my body as she took in the all black suit and red tie, she demanded I wear.
"Wow indeed," she mumbled as she licked her lips.
"Ahem," the pastor interrupted our staring.
"Friends and family, we are gathered here today in the presence of God, to share in the celebration of their marriage. We are separated by the many different experiences that we have had but despite these differences we gather here today in this place because we share something in common. We share a desire to affirm and support the relationship of Camilla Cortes and Luke Williams"
My hands tightened around Camilla's when he paused.
"Before God, your friends, and your families, I ask you to affirm your willingness to enter the covenant of marriage and to share all the joys and sorrows of your lives and your relationship, no matter what the future may hold"
He turned to face me, "do you take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife? Do you promise to love her, comfort her, honor and keep her, in sickness and in health until death do you part?"
"I do," I could see tears in her eyes as I spoke.
"Camilla do you take this man to be your husband?"
"I do," she said giddily as she interrupted him.
Everyone laughed as she bounced on her feet embarrassed, "sorry start over please"
He chuckled softly and began to speak, "do you take this man to be your husband? Do you promise to love him, comfort him, honor, and keep him, in sickness and in health until death do you part?
"I do," she grinned widely.
"Repeat after me," he said to her “I take you Luke this day as my husband. I promise to walk by your side forever as your soulmate and your best friend. You are my beloved one and I am proud to marry you. I promise to support your dreams and to be there for you always"
My heart fluttered as she repeated what he said. Her eyes stayed on me the entire time. I stared into her eyes as I repeated his words as well. I meant every word and I knew that she did too.
"Could I please have the rings?" he asked Nate who quickly handed them to him.
As he held both rings in his hands he began to speak, "From the earliest times, the circle has been a symbol of completeness, a symbol of committed love. An unbroken and never-ending circle symbolizes a commitment of love that is also never ending. This ring should be a reminder of the commitment to you made today to lover each other through everything"
"Repeat after me," he uttered as he handed Camilla my ring "I Camilla give you Luke this ring as a symbol of my commitment to love, respect and honor you"
She looked at me as she slowly slid the ring on my finger, she repeated the same words, "I give you this ring as a symbol of my commitment to love, respect and honor you"
I took the ring from him and did the same, "I give you this ring as a symbol of my commitment to love, honor and respect you"
"May God bless you and keep you," he proclaimed “and by the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife"
"Groom," he turned to me "you may kiss your bride"
I didn't need to be told twice as he pulled her tightly to me and pressed my lips to hers. I quickly swiped my tongue against her lips, and she opened for me. I kissed her deeply as I dipped her close to the floor. I pulled away and pecked her on the lips.
"I love you so much," I whispered.
"I love you more," she sighed dreamily.
"It is my pleasure to present to you Camilla Williams and Luke Williams as husband and wife"
The guests rose to their feet and clapped in joy at our union. She took her flowers from Alex and gave her a big hug. Nate pulled me into a hug congratulating me. I turned to face Camilla and took her hand, we walked down the aisle smiling brightly as they congratulated us. I led her to our limo that was waiting to take us to our reception after having wedding pictures taken.
"See you at the reception," I shouted to everyone. Alex, Nate, and the rest of our family would be joining us for pictures.
Opening the door, I helped Alex to fit her dress in the limo. I climbed in beside her and the driver shut the door.
I pressed my lips to hers my hand resting on her belly where our baby was. As we closed the chapter to one part of our lives, I couldn't help but think this was only the beginning.
