Chapter 1 His Eyes
I just played with the small amount of salad on my plate I was no longer hungry , I lost appetite when one of the many co-workers at Steals Inc. commented on how my appearance looked. My plus size figure bothers most, but I can't blame them I can make a business attire look like a club outfit. Trust me I don't even try to expose myself like that I prefer to wear baggy clothing not "fitting curves" clothing.
I hated attention.. hated it. In the office where I use to work I got it the most, especially when I came late to work. All those hard, mean ass, long stares like WHAT?! And right now sitting at this round table alone just makes me wish I had or have friends.
I grew up with my aunt because my parents had both died in a car accident. I don't remember it much since I was only 2 years old.
My aunt on the other hand was the only family that wanted to take me in. Though she had 3 unwelcoming kids who hurt me mentally and physically she didn't care as long as I didn't cause trouble and listened to her when told.
As soon as I left high school and had enough money to support myself, I left my aunt's house leaving with no strings attached. I could've never called the place home....
At the age of 23, I'd been through a lot so much so that my adulting stage was forced earlier upon me being with my aunt.Now due to my job downsizing I had placed a application to be a assistant at Steals Inc. The company is owned by Klaus Steals who I'm finally meeting today he also had some CEO branch at JTH, my former job.
Klaus Steals as I heard around the office I use to work at was no man to mess with. With his successful business I understand the intensity this guy must've had. I've heard things about him, very misleading things that I won't think of. He's workspace was three levels above the lobby floor. No one really went there, as I heard. His floor was secluded for himself only.
I ate one more bit of my salad and throw the rest away and headed up to his workplace. I got to my appointment an hour early and thought before I went to the interview I'd look around. I ended up dragging myself in the lunch room were I ordered a salad to eat, I gladly regretted that. As I walked towards the elevator. I realized people were watching me like I was going to be remorseful about going to the third floor.
****
I sat twinging my fingers together nervously a I waited anxiously for my meet with Mr. Steals.
Job interviews drained me mentally I disliked the basic structured questions asked during the interview. Vaguely questions that made but overthink my response.
The room was twice the size of my apartment. Had dark furniture yet fit the aesthetic of the room which was nice but not my style.
Klaus Steal's is well known around in town but when he's mentioned it's always in a whisper. I've seen him once at a meeting held at JTH it was a quick glance he seemed intimidating. I'm so into my thoughts I don't hear the sound of the door opening and shutting behind me until I hear.. a low gruff which made me jump a little.
"Sorry for being late Ms. Camila Taylor. I had a meeting." Came a deep husky voice. I quivered at the sound of my name.
I looked up from my hands and was meet with dark, cold eyes. Which were staring back at me, if I can hide I would. The way Klaus Steal's looked at me made me quiver once again, I forced a polite smile and I looked away. I remained silent, scared to initiate a conversation, for the most part this was my first time being interviewed for such a position.
His shoes clacked on the black marble floors.
Mr. Steals sat in the office chair in front of me. Silence filled the air as he looked up at me from his papers which I assumed was my resume.
"I'm Klaus Steals the owner of this company, as you may already know by now. I've heard a lot about you." He said with a sly smirk on his face.
"Y...you have." I asked unmindfully, he nodded his head.
"No criminal records, finished high school with all A's, got you bachelors in college, worked at JTH which had to let you go because of downsizing." I nodded my head to each of his statements. Mr.Steals continued on with a few basic questions. I answer each question with applicants. Finally what seemed like forever.
"Your hired for the assistant position. I'll have someone show you your office next week when you start, Monday. I do not appreciate tardiness nor excuses for work I give you." Mr. Steals says in a tight voice his large cold hands reached over only to wrap around mine with a firm hold to congratulate me.
I stand from the club chair and pulled on my skirt which had risen a bit exposing my mid thighs. I felt Mr. Steals glare and gulped immediately hoping he won't stare to long. Then of course I, being so clumsy dropped my bag, I quickly bent over to pick it up. My rear end stuck out in front of him. I cleared my throat to excuse myself. Believe me when I say if I were a lighter skin tone I'd be as red as a cherry.
I heard an exhale from Mr.Steals, which made me have this tightening feel in the pit of my stomach. I turned and looked up to met his eyes, I almost swoon when they met. His eyes held something I've never seen before; they were dark. His dark eyes ranked me up and down making me feel self-conscious. He held a blank face the entire time. His face was artwork, everything was defined and sharp.
He looked at some report on his desk making me realize I was staring too long.
"Thank you, Mr. Steals. I look forward to working with you." I mumbled and quickly walked out of his office and let out a breath I didn't know I was holding. My judgement were completely wrong about Klaus Steals. How am I going to get by working with him?
****
He watched her round butt sway in the skirt as she walked away quickly.
~~~
I throw my heels off, unbuckled my bra graceful and rushed to the fridge as soon as I got home. My apartment being my hide away wasn't big nor small everything was easy to get to. I heated up last nights dinner. I learned that cooking all the time when I lived with my auntie taught me well and did me justice.
The smell of my now heated food filled my nose. I took my food out of the microwave and plopped myself in front of my Tv. I flipped through the channels absentmindedly. My mind wondered back to the one and only Klaus Steals.
His demeanor stood out to me the most he was so serious , like a man with no time for games nor happiness in his life. His appearance on the other hand was jaw dropping; underneath his att air I knew he was a well built man. Salt n' pepper complemented his hair and beard. His skin was pale but fairly nice, his hands looked so soft but when he shook my hand his calluses were hard.
Being an observant person I took notice that he wore no ring, for a man who was 36 and finely mannered I would've thought he'd be married. Or may be he was a womanizer.
A weird chill ran through me just thinking about him.
After eating I washed my bowl and headed to the shower. Within minutes I finished to lather up my body with oils, put on my sleep ware, braid my hair for some shut eye.
Tomorrow was the weekend and I was gonna to go out shopping. The town I live in is apparently small you can say, everyone knows everyone; not literally. Everything was near by and I loved the atmosphere of this place to call home.
I turned off the lights in the bathroom and quickly jumped into my bed. As soon as my head hit the pillow I was knocked out.
~~~
It was the next morning, Saturday. I was up early do to me hating encountering lots of people in stores. I was always cooped up in the house because of my introverted ways, going out would be good for once. I needed to treat myself once in awhile.
I picked out a oversized sweater with black biker shorts I got into my car and drove off to this boutique I enjoyed shopping at it was the only place closest in town that had things in my size and looked really good on my figure.
At the DrWinds stop light I decided I wanted a boba tea, L&F's Fusion had the best drinks hands down. I loved going there to just relax and pull my book out and read. It was a quiet place no one really which in turn made this place my favorite to come too. I loved it. I pulled up in a parking spot right in front of the small cafe. The smell of food filled my nose once I inhaled deeply walking towards the cash register.
"Hello, Can I get ...." My sentence was cut short.
"Strawberry boba tea!" The employee said with excitement she knew my order. I came here a lot.
"Yes please thank you." I giggled slightly and took a seat near my favorite corner and waited for my drink.
~~~~~~
I was halfway through my boba and chapters into the book I was reading. I had forgot about time, and probably would head home after finishing this chapter. By know it was noon.
I looked around the cafe just to observe my surrounding. My eyes lands on Klaus Steals who's at the cash register also glancing around the cafe.
I hold my breath out of habit when I'm on edge, my heart is pounding. I'm praying he doesn't see me. Then as soon I get ready to look away our eyes meet for a second. I close my eyes tightly praying that he isn't approaching me after I see him grab his drink.
I perceive his footsteps, the sound of his oxford shoes slapping the marble tile dangerously making my adrenaline rush. Just like our interview the other day. I clutch the book in my hand and focus on reading the words in the book. Trying to ignore his growing shadow. In the corner of my eye I see him emerging my table until he was sitting in the chair in front of me.
I ignored his presence as much as I could not aiming to come off rude.
Curiosity got the best of me and I shyly looked up, I probably look stupid. His black coffee was still untouched in front of him. His cold eyes just staring at me like an open book. I looked around the the cafe once more realizing that a few where looking in our direction. I closed my book and took a sip from my boba, giving me something to do. I sucked the bottom of my lip in habit.
I should definitely say something? But he beat me to that.
"Are you anxious?", his voice speaks first making me shudder. It was filled with curiosity and anger all at the same time.
"Umm n-no" I lied hoping he'd hear me.
"I hate liars."
He said in disappointment.
"Pardon me, but I have to leave." I placed my book in my side bag. I felt my cheeks heat up. I got up from my chair clutching my bag.
He chuckles, a chuckle that made my body shiver, it wasn't one of those chuckles that made me smile. It was one of those that made me feel frighten. But at the same time a part of me found it intriguing.
"I suggest you sit down." His eyes stare at me intensely filled with an unexplained emotion.
I should definitely make a run for it, but my body tells me different automatically taking back it's place across from him slowly.
My eyes travel to the cafe floor, now pretty aware that everyone's eyes was on us. I gulped, I should've stayed home.
I than became aware that Klaus wasn't much of a talker. He cocks he's head to the side as if he was analyzing me.
"Would you like to order anything else?" His eyes focus on my finished drink. This made me self conscious.
"No" I whimper. I hope he was catching on to my body language I really didn't wanna be here.
Klaus gotten up from his chair leaving his drink towered over my body making me feel small compared to my plus size figure. His left hand wrapped around my wrist bringing me towards him making me stand with him.
He leaned in so close to my ear I could feel his minty breath fanning against my face making me feel that unsettling feeling in the pit of my stomach.
"You making it seem like we didn't meet the other day. I'm sure you know who I am?" I lower my head nodding. My palms sweat and I take in a deep breath keeping my eyes glued to the cafe floor.
I gasps when his right hand lowers to my bum. He gives it a light brush before releasing me.
Instantly the warmth of his body heat vanishes, making me shiver for the billionth time. I was shocked by the sudden change of attitude.
A hush is held over the cafe floor once again as Klaus Steels walks out the cafe.
Who knows if he was upset or not his attitude was in called for. Was it the fact, I declined his offer of buying me something? Thoughts raced through my mind as I still stood.
"I've never seen him step foot in here until today!" The employee from earlier mentioned as I made my way through the exit of the cafe.
"You should've ordered the thing between his legs!" I laughed on the inside as I heard the last remark she said. Was he that well known.
~~~~
I was still stunned by what happened today. My thoughts where wild as I laid in bed. I thought of all the possibilities that could have happened differently if I had spoke my mind.
"Camila why do you care so much?" I asked myself.
However I looked forward to going to work on Monday. I was so prepared to tell Klaus Steals that what he did to me in the cafe was uncalled for.
