CHAPTER 37 - THE TANGLED SITUATION
Eric wanted to talk to Ben and Courtney but considering the three oldies didn’t know what the real situation is he had to pretend he didn’t know anything. When everyone was totally out of the room Eric was left behind intentionally to speak to the trouble couple.
“You better think fast and make an alibi about the baby because those two women are way beyond their imagination.” Eric commented.
"Why in the world my mother thinks I'm pregnant?!" Courtney pulled Ben to the side when the coast was already clear.
"Your mother have this crazy theory that you were pregnant that's why we decided to get married soon." Ben replied in irritation.
"Why didn't you object or denied instead of making her think that way?!" Courtney elbowed him this time since she couldn’t contain her emotion.
"Because she keeps on babbling and interrupting me just like what my mother is doing to us!” He whispered yell.
"Now we were in much bigger trouble how am I supposed to take it back!?" Courtney yelled softly trying not to make everyone hear their arguing.
“Eric is right we need to think fast now before this gets bigger.” Ben hissed.
“What do you suggest?” Courtney asked.
“We can say we there was a miscarriage.” Ben statement overpowered her thought.
“Fair enough that’s the easiest way out on this.” Courtney agreed.
“Hey you two! Everyone is waiting inside, so you better get in before they suspect anything.” Eric called their attention before entering the other door.
Liliana and Arianna are already sitting on the couch while Mr. Montini sat in one of the single chair. If there is anyone who isn’t happy with the news that is certainly Mr. Montini because he thinks that the guy took advantage of her daughter’s weakness. He is still not convince but wanted to know everything once and for all.
"Mamà, can you tell how you knew the Montini because I'm still confused with what's happening." Eric decided to speak again in behalf of everyone’s curiosity.
"Arianna and I are great friends’ way back in College. We didn't see each other for very long time so we made plans to meet and set the engagement since that was what we really wanted." Liliana simplified.
"We made the arrangement that if our kids are still not married by the time they are on the right age; we will meet again and set it up." Arianna chipped in.
“Yes, it was our ultimate goal and of course to have grandchildren of our own.” Liliana face bright up upon saying the word grandchildren.
“And our wish is finally granted amica.” Mrs. Montini grinned.
“Did Ben take advantage of you in any way?” Mr. Montini boldly asked her daughter who seems to be taken aback.
“With all due respect Signore I have never done something that I regret and neither do Courtney.” Ben felt he needs to defend himself.
"How far along are you?" Mr. Montini gave a stern look directly at her daughter again.
“I’m not --” Courtney tried to say a word but her mother interrupted.
"Stop it Carlos! Stop interrogating as if she did a heinous crime. It's bad for our daughter and her baby to be stress so let her relax will you? Mrs. Montini hit her husband’s shoulder.
“That is correct Carlos, you know how sensitive woman can be when they are pregnant eh?” Liliana backed her friend up.
“Whatever you both say, I can never win against you two.” Mr. Montini gave up.
"Just ignore your father tesoro and focus on your baby’s health.” Arianna soothe her daughter.
“Also, try to speak softly so the baby can recognize that you love and care for her.” Mrs. Venoso suggested to Courtney.
“Yeah that’s true the more you’re nice to the mother, the more the baby will be happy and felt love.” Mrs. Montini again gave her input.
“Don’t get yourself too tried and always eat healthy foods okay?” Mrs. Venoso gave another tip for her.
“But ---” Courtney tried again to detest.
“So tell us when do you plan to get married?" This time it was Liliana asked.
"Ben and I haven’t decided the date yet, but once we talked about it we will announced it.” Courtney finds the best alibi she can think of.
“Of course, take all the time you need but it would be best if you’re not yet showing gives you more time to prepare for the baby.” Mrs. Montini suddenly touches her daughter’s stomach.
“I think my decision will help you too fasten your wedding date since you both came here for my approval.” Mr. Montini stated.
“What you mean decision Carlos? Are you against our family or rather my son?” Liliana asked.
“Just to let anyone know, prior to your arrival Liliana they announced their plan to get married that I intentionally disagree because we have our agreement; but after witnessing this mess I have no reason to object their upcoming wedding anymore. So I am giving my blessings to our children.” Mr. Montini looked at Ben and Courtney.
"I can’t wait for my brother to get hitch so you better think fast on the date man." Eric is tapping his brother’s shoulder.
“Can we have uhm… a moment alone?” Ben finally had enough of this mess.
“Oh tesoro, if this is about the baby that we found out sooner, it’s my fault, please don’t be mad to Ben.” Her mother kept on going.
“I won’t just please give us time to talk something important.” Courtney wished.
“Sure we are going to be outside for a while, let’s go amica.” Liliana took her friend’s hand.
“Let’s give them privacy dear, we don’t want to stress our daughter.” Mr. Montini for the first time thought his daughter’s welfare.
“Alright, let’s have coffee while waiting for them.” Mrs. Montini agreed.
“Thanks.” Courtney replied curtly.
“I’ll make a honey and tea for you since caffeine is not good for you.” Mrs. Montini kissed her daughter’s head.
Courtney noticed Ben balled his fist on and she doesn't know what he is thinking. She began to think what if Ben doesn't want to continue their deal anymore? Now that they are really going to be married, what will happen to them? Courtney is mad because she doesn't want this marriage to happen but then she’s happy to know that it was Ben.
