FLEE FROM THE PAST
Augusta's POV:
Going on a mission, outside of work, was the worst decision she ever made. Risking her brother and sister's life while she got away with everything. She wasn't the only child, but she was the youngest. Always shielded but never needing that shield. Outside of work, she'd done the best that she could to follow the principles of her family because they were under the mafia crew. They couldn't bear to fuck anything up. But little did she know that that was going to be the end of it all.
"What?" To say she was shocked was an understatement. It was a mixture of bewilderment and unbelief.
"Uh-oh." My sister, Ashley exclaimed.
"What is it?"
"More men are coming."
"Then get away from there."
"They can't." Ken, my brother said. "They're surrounded." That didn't sound good.
"How did they get caught?" Augusta asked, eyes widening.
"I don't know, maybe an alarm went off or something." He said working on his laptop. Augusta pondered how Ray, Ashley and Ken would get out of there.
Ashley
An escape plan. She heard the sound of thread cutting and knew it was Ray. He was the one with the little knife and found it useful after all. When his thread was lost, that was when we heard the noise from outside the room.
Marl and Nathan, her cousins glanced towards the direction of the door and rushed out. Ray instantly stood up and helped me cut my rope off, and I assisted in untying the others'.
When we got out, it was a real battle, between Ken and the guards. His swings were good, and his steps were as well. She had no idea why he was a better fighter than she was. Ray joined in the fight and they both fought their way to victory. Okay, the word 'victory' would fit in more if this were a fantasy.
Augusta joined in the fight as well, watching everyone closely to make sure no guard got near her. She was concerned about the guards when on the other hand someone else's eyes were closer than near.
Kyle didn't fight, but he watched the mastermind behind everything. Marl held out the gun in his hands towards Ashley. Her breathing, she was hyperventilating. She couldn't stand the sight of violence. Augusta didn't know how she was going to go about this, or how she was unable to think about anything other than to run to save her.
The shot came, loud, causing silence to reign. The silence was filled with a groan filled with pain. And that groan came from someone who deeply cared about Ashley. Ray. My eyes widened when I saw my brother... shot. How could Marl...my cousin do this to us? I looked up at him. He betrayed us. Ray hugged Ashley to his chest bringing her down with him. Then the shot again to his back. She saw him exhale but didn't let go of her. And then the shot again. A sharp cry escaped Augusta's lips. She could no longer stand the sight, and she scanned the floor, looking for any weapon she could use against him.
Fortunately, she found a gun lying beside an unconscious guard and quickly ran for it. She picked it up and looked at it. Hands trembling. She'd never used a gun before, and she hoped her first time using it wouldn't be a mistake.
She stood and pointed it directly at Marl. The families walked out of the door, and all eyes widened.
Marl's hand was close to pressing the button when she closed my eyes and shot. It wasn't just one gunshot, but three-- three at once. When I opened my eyes, she noticed Kyle and Ken pointing their guns too. He'd been shot thrice at a time, and I could see his blood dripping from his white shirt. A dark red blood and she almost threw up. She got him, her first shot and I got it. Then another two shots from Kyle. Oh my God. She never thought she would ever kill anyone in her family. Ever.
The smell of gunshot wafted into her nostrils and it smelled terrible, along with the scent of blood.
Lowering his gun, his legs trembled as he fell to his knees. His eyes found Marl, like a mixture of disappointment and surprise. Slowly his hands connected with the floor before his entire body did.
Just then she rushed to Ray and Ashely. Ray groaned the moment Augusta touched him, and Ashley's eyes were blurry and wide as they stared at him. She moved him away from her, feeling the red liquid on her hand.
"He..hello, the...there is an em..er..gen..cy..." Ashley shuddered. Augusta had to take the phone from her to continue. After telling them the address they hung up and she gave Ashley's phone back. She was sobbing as she stared at Ray.
Her parents came to comfort her. Her father held her shoulders, pulling her up, and then holding her to his chest as she sobbed on it.
After some minutes passed the ambulance was present, and got Ray out of the building, putting him in the ambulance. Ashley and his family climbed in before the vehicle drove off while Ken and I stood watching the vehicle till it vanished.
We made eye contact, his clothes were also stained, but not as much as mine. And then he gave me a faint smile, placing his hand on my shoulder. It made me realise one thing;
Kyle was gone.
She held Ray's hand as they rode the gurney into the ward. Her eyes were filled with tears, her hands trembled as she remembered what had happened. He'd saved Ashley's life at the expense of his life. She hoped she prayed that he would be alright. She didn't want him to go, not now. She wasn't prepared at all. But all her fears came to reality the moment it was mentioned that her brother was gone. That night her entire family died in the fire that was lit in their mansion. She'd watched with her eyes as the mansion crumbled to the ground. The noise was too much as people were running back and forth trying to quench the fire. It was impossible to save them already. She'd cried so loud that night she thought she was going to die from crying so hard. I had no idea that the universe had other plans for me. The next thing she knew was that when she woke up, she was part of the women getting sold.
And till today she was in love with the man that killed them all.
