I'm Teary
ELENA'S POV;
**************
My past keeps haunting me. He mistreated me, abused me, called me worthless, and cursed my mum for leaving me with him. Why would she do such a thing? I was deprived of food, well healthy food because I ate the same dish each day, and sometimes I ate nothing at all. I was so lean, even Brianne told me with pity. She pitied me.
But even with all that, I still managed to put on a smile, every time in school as though nothing bad happened to me. And I'm so glad for the existence of make-up, it hides my pain and devastation from people. They think I'm happy, but I'm not, they see me beam, but on the inside there are tears.
I wiped the tears that rolled from my cheeks. Then lastly, I took my brother's picture and stared at it. He was grinning, his eyes were filled with joy, it was as though he was staring straight into my eyes, and I couldn't help but cry as I placed it on my clothes before I zipped my small bag up. I missed him so much, I wished he was here for me, to see me out of this problem. I struggled to get to the door, my hip pain was more excruciating than it was a moment ago. I managed to hop out of my room. I walked gently trying not to make a sound even as much as my hip was hurting.
I could hear the snore of the monster, it came loud and irritating, like a bulldog. This was my chance, I clutched the handle of my bed and headed for the door. At last, I could have my freedom. I opened the door and the cool breeze caressed my skin, the smell of earth filled my nostrils, and horning vehicles. I didn't even realize it was dawn. Everything inside was dark but there was enough light to see, but I had thought it was afternoon.
I inhaled as I hopped. "And where do you think you're going?" I froze at the familiar voice and slowly hopped back. "Do you wish for your hip to get more damaged than it already is?" My eyes widened, but I didn't waste time, I hurried out of the house. "Get back here you slut!"
If not for the pain, I would have gone faster. But I hopped as far as I could, I could feel his footsteps behind me. My barefoot hopped on the slippery ground as I prayed for night to fall, he had night blindness. My prayer was answered when everything turned dark so quickly. I turned, and he was stumbling to catch me, but he couldn't. Even if he tried to yell, he wouldn't, because people would certainly get aware.
Suddenly rain began to fall, dropping on my skin. My light shirt hugged my skin, making it more transparent, but I didn't care. People ran to keep themselves from the rain, no one looked at me, but I was safe, I ran to save myself from the hideous monster who had stopped chasing me. The drop of rain made me feel alive, my hair clung to my cheeks, and then I came to a stop and sat down beside the tree. The leaves drained water on my skin, and the thunder clapped, but I didn't care.
I covered my face with my hands, knowing there I had nowhere to go. The thought came to my mind that I should go to my brother's house. I agreed at first, but I instantly knew it wasn't safe for me. He would find me there, and then do his worst.
I buried my face in my palm. I didn't know what to do. Maybe I should have waited till dusk before I left that cage, so it would have been so much easier. The rain was heavier now, and it rained on my clothes until I no longer felt the rain on my skin, but I heard it falling. Only the wind hit me harshly but I refused to shiver.
"What are you doing out here soaked in the rain? You might catch a cold." A lady's voice said.
I looked up, but couldn't see the lady's face because it was dark. But I could see blue eyes gleaming through the darkness.
"This place isn't safe for females like you at night." She said, "C'mon, let's get okay first." She holds her hand down to me, and I stare at it. I was hesitant for a while but when I looked up, her eyes were warm and convincing. I took it, and she helped me up. "Whoa, looks like you've been hurt." She said after hearing my groan. "Can you walk?" I nodded, and then she walked me to her car. "Don't bother about soaking my seats, just be comfortable." She states as I entered.
I didn't know where she was taking me until we stopped at a house, more mansion-like. This building was so beautiful and tall. She must be a wealthy person. I thought. She got out of the car, and I did the same, I shivered immediately after I got out.
"We have to get you warm." She walked and beckoned to me and then I followed her. She smiled as she handed me hot tea, and a towel to keep me warm. Now I saw her face clearly and couldn't stop staring. She was so beautiful, her blonde hair waved below her shoulders, her ocean blue eyes filled with warmth and gleamed, and her slightly pink puffy lips tugged into a smirk.
"So what's your name?" She asked me, but I was silent for a while. I place my tea cup on the table.
Even though I was reluctant, I spoke anyway. "I'm Elena."
"Elena." She repeated. "It's such a nice name."
"Thank you." I smiled.
"I'm Gretchen. It's nice to meet you." She said.
"It is nice to meet you too, Gretchen." I'd never met her before, but I was starting to like her. She seemed nice.
Her gaze trekked to my cheek, and she slightly frowned curiously. "Did you get hit on the cheek?"
I lowered my gaze but shook my head. She was about to say something but got interrupted.
"I need a drink." A male voice said, but he halted in his tracks when he saw Gretchen and me. "Who's the lady?"
"Elena, my brother, Jason, Elena, she's staying hers for a while." She introduced us. His name reminded me of my uncle's.
"Oh, pleasure to make your acquaintance Miss Elena." He bowed, but I suppressed my grin. Gretchen rolled her eyes and I only smiled, and it was slight. He was so gorgeous, wearing a black tank top and sweatpants. His jet-black hair gleamed in the light, and his blue oceanic eyes, just like Gretchen's. His muscles were fuller when he opened the refrigerator. He grabbed a bottle of water. "See you tomorrow, especially you P. '' He said, winking at me. I blushed a little. When he left, I turned back to Gretchen.
"You'll be hungry. Let me grab you something to eat."
She was so nice, I was beginning to hope I don’t leave this house. It felt nice to have someone who treated you nicely. But I feared my stepdad would find me here, he would do anything just to get me back to that terrible house. Even from the outer appearance, one would know the house was bad indeed. I watched as she warmed up the food, and after, placed the food on my table. It was rice, my favourite. It was like the hunger in my stomach suddenly got loose at the aroma of this food, causing Gretchen to chuckle.
"Eat." She said nicely.
My eyes fluttered open as I looked up at the ceiling. I remembered that night clearly. Running away from my past was something I'd always been doing. I was tired of everything. I hated the abuse and got so tired that I momentarily ran away from there. How I ended up in that mischievous house was a mystery to me. Because I had people who were already willing to take care of me. They were people I could ask for help....but I never didn't, because I thought it unnecessary. My mother kept telling me that he would change, that the reason she was still with him was because she didn't want me to be without a father. I wept so many times because of that but she was too blind to see.
