Their Banter
ELENA'S POV;
"Can I borrow Anne here for a moment?" I asked giving Purity a warm but fake smile.
"Ah..sure, she's your best friend anyway." She seemed a little down, but I cared less. My grip tightened on Anne's hands before I took her away for a private talk.
"I hate seeing that Purity girl with you. She's like trying to steal away your attention."
"Yeah," Anne stated dryly. "Like I stopped you from chatting with your crush during lectures."
"That's different Anne."
"How? You even seem to pay more attention to him than to me." She raised her brow. "And Purity here has nothing against you, in fact, she's trying to get close to you."
"Why? So she can get a lot of fame and I'm thrown into the dark?"
"Jessie, she isn't that kind of person."
"Then why do you think she wants to know me?"
"Just to be friends." She shrugged.
"Whatever." I rolled my eyes. " Guess what?" I grinned.
"What?"
"Aiden asked me out," I stated happily, but the light on Anne's face faded so quickly.
"I don't think I heard you well."
"What's that supposed to mean?" I frowned.
"Look Avary you're my best friend, and I don't want anything that would get you hurt, you know that.
"Yeah?"
"I have to ask, are you going to be his girlfriend?"
"Let's wait and see what happens first. But I do wish to become his girlfriend." I said dreamily.
"Jessie, no offence but, I don't think you deserve a person like Aiden."
"Why do you say so?"
"I just dunno what you ladies see in this guy, you claim he's handsome and charming, but I don't see any of those in him. He might be charming on the outside but he's not on the inside. I've seen him, he dates and dumps girls like pieces of trash, he uses them for benefits, claims he loves them and when they fall into his trap, he takes advantage of them." She emphasized.
I was stunned. "I don't believe it. Brianne, are you jealous of me?"
It was her turn to be stunned. "What, no Jessie, I'm just looking out for you."
"You should be supporting me, Anne, not hindering me from what I have always wanted," I said, a bit blue. "You remember I told you that I had a crush on him since 8th grade. This is my chance, do you not see it?"
"Jessie..."
"Don't try to stop me," I said, my tone rose a bit as I glared into the hazel green eyes of Anne. I couldn't believe her, she knew how much this date meant to me, and she was trying to stop me. I left before she uttered another word.
That evening, I was so excited to be on a date with Aiden. This was my first date, and I was happy he was my date. Inches away from the entrance, I adjusted my elastic blue gown, pulling down its length. It wasn't short, but I wasn't comfortable with dresses going above my knees, and just then, I regretted wearing it. My hair was tied in a ponytail, and little makeup was applied to my face. I Inhaled before walking into the restaurant.
I noticed him flirting with a blonde-haired girl. Her shape was well defined in her black gown, so attractive, her gown was quite short, but a little below her thighs. I frowned. Aiden looked attracted to her. What was wrong with him? Does he always have to flirt with the fair ladies he sees?
I made my way to the table, where they were seated. "Hi, I'm Avary, Aiden's date." She glanced at him, like she was saying 'Is that true?'
"Just for tonight, she's not my type." He explained.
I was stunned, but I hid it well. I took my seat, his eyes on me as though they were about to rip my heart out. His gaze shifted to whatever her name was while she gazed at me with an uneasy look. I could guess she tried to hide it, but her face betrayed her.
But, damn she was so beautiful, those oceanic blue eyes, a cute nose, and lips that were puffy. There was no hint of makeup on her face, and her lips were bright pink. I was getting more jealous.
"I'm Adriana." She held her arm out to me, and I gripped it. Her eyes went back to that of Aiden who didn't seem comfortable with us together. "Aiden here is my friend, we met a month ago." She said, giving me a fake smile.
"Well, it's nice to meet you," I said.
"And you too." She stated, gave Aiden another glance, and walked away. I turned to him.
"So, how is your night going?"
He checked his watch. "Well, it appears twelve minutes got wasted when you introduced yourselves."
"It was a kind gesture. It's my first time seeing a lady friend of yours who's not from school."
"If you haven't heard, they are not my friends. They are my girlfriends."
"Yeah, I heard so." My stomach swivelled. We both fell silent, and I tried to bring something up to break that silence because I wanted so badly to talk to him. But he seemed kinda occupied with his phone. "Are you not going to order anything?" I asked at last.
His gaze went from his phone to me. "I suggest you order first."
"Oh, okay." I turned to call the brown-haired lady. But before I could she turned from the guy she was flirting with to me. I beckoned, while she obeyed. I turned to Aiden, his eyes were on his phone and he seemed amused by whatever he saw.
"Okay." She noted my orders and then turned to Aiden. "What about your orders?"
"Just water." He said, but I didn't mind. I just hoped tonight on my first date, it would go as I wanted.”
I cocked a brow at the end of this one. Aiden was Jessie's first love and he didn't rate her in any way. I sighed. So this was what high school looked like. It was a phase I never got to experience. I never had the chance to fall in love like Jessie did or get my heart broken by a boy. And it appeared she might have done some stupid things back in high school. And it sort of made me wonder, what made her decide that she wanted to become a femme fatale? And her definition of love was really something that kind of struck me. I was certain I liked Antonio, but do I love him?
