Jessie's Diary
ELENA'S POV;
If anyone had told me that I'd be reading a real-life action book, a few years ago on a soft and comfy bed, I'd have laughed my ass out. But that was exactly what I was doing right now and my curiosity perked each moment. People really went through a lot to get to where they are today.
*****I stopped in my tracks when I realized the black-clothed man was nowhere to be found. I could hear the thumping of my own heart as chills ran down my spine. I'd suddenly been snapped out of a hypnotic state of mind, I realized what I was doing was quite dangerous. I had to leave this place...fast because I had no idea what could transpire next. I heard voices and held my breath before I slowly proceeded forward.
"We need to keep to the plan Seth or things will get out of hand."
Seth? I paused my reading. Seth? That was my father's fucking name. Did Jessie know about him in any way? Had she encountered him before? Seth. Could this man that she saw really be my father?
"C'mon, man've got less than one fucking month. How do you even know they'll confess?" I continued reading. What was he searching for? That's what it seemed like here.
The faint masculine voices got clearer and louder as I shuffled closer. I looked about cautiously, to see if anyone was watching, and when I thought the coast was clear, I proceeded, getting a clear picture of two men, and other men that stood watch, like they were guarding the place. And before they could get a chance to see me, I hid behind a brick wall and eavesdropped.
"Then we would have to get it out of them."
"Wha 'about Marl, you think he wouldn't be after them already?" The other man stated and I recognized this was Purity's father. He was the one molesting her. And Seth? Well, I had no idea who he was. But I sure as well knew he didn't have a good agenda either.
"Not if we have them first." I could picture a straight face for the person talking to the other. But 'Marl?' Who is he? The people they were to capture, the month they were to spend searching for them. "That fucking mafia kid actually believes he's all isn't it?"
"Kid?" The other man questioned.
"He's just a fucking twenty-one-year-old." The man I now knew was Seth stated. I was stunned, cause... mafia? I knew mafias existed in novels, but never thought I'd be hearing about one in real life. What the actual fuck? And he was just twenty-one? Wasn't he too young for that shit? But I wouldn't call him a kid either.
My ears picked up the sound of a soft purr whilst my neck automatically twisted, my eyes catching a black cat moving sluggishly towards a trash can. I pinched my nose, trying to hold in the sneeze that fought to come up. Yeah, I was allergic to cats. This was very bad timing. I tried my best to hold it in, I really did. But the sneeze escaped from my nose and that caused the two men to pause.
"Who goes there?"
Shit.
I turned to my heel and ran as fast as my legs could carry me, my ears listening to the fast knocking sounds on the floor, that were caused by more than four legs. Spotting a path in between two buildings, relief overwhelmed me as I thought this was my chance to escape. And just then two men walked out from there, stopping deliberately in front of me.
From my front to each side and then behind me were men dressed in casual outfits, with intimidating faces. I was surrounded, nowhere to run as I glanced back and forth. Then one of them gripped my arms, locking them behind me. I tried to yank myself away but the amount of pain I caused my shoulders trying to do so stopped me.
The one at my front obscured my view with a piece of black cloth, forcefully.
"Let's take her to the boss."
"No, he's ordered the murder of intruders. And this kid here is one of them."
What, murder, they are going to murder me? I tried to yank myself away again at those petrifying words but failed.
Gosh, what have I gotten myself into? I was forced to my knees, a groan escaping my lips as they connected forcefully to the rough floor. I was going to die, didn't need anyone to tell me so. I held my breath, I was surrendering, when there was nothing else I could do, I was helpless, and no one was there to help me. As much as I feared death, I knew I wouldn't fear it once I was dead.
I gasped, immediately I felt the force at which strong hands released my arms, as the sound of groans filled my ears. Arh, urgh, uff. I panicked at the unseen violence that took place before me. Each moment I felt a rush of air brush my skin, the sound of punches and groans, bodies hitting the ground. And then, silence. Not what I expected but what I knew was that I was alive, I felt a tingle that notified me someone was still here, and my breathing was loud as I could barely catch my breath not to talk of taking the cloth off my eyes.
I didn't know who it was but he sure was standing right in front of me. Wasn't he gonna do anything? I had lost my voice, but my subconscious expected something terrible to happen at that moment, and not to remain in an uncomfortable silence like this one.
I hadn't noticed my trembling body till I felt warm hands on my shoulders before they helped me up. And the most surprising thing I hadn't anticipated was this person holding me close to himself, I didn't know why at first, and I didn't fight him till my breathing calmed; You're safe now, it's okay.' He sounded so familiar even though he whispered. And I was having a migraine with unanswerable questions popping into my head. Who is this person, did he know this was going to happen? Did he know me? Did he know I was in danger?
His hands were so warm, and I could feel his hand patting my back. This was weird because he was a total stranger, and I couldn't even see his face. But I remained calm, and I actually liked it. The breeze brushed my skin as I felt my saviour release himself from me after we both heard my name.
"Jessie!"
"Jessie!"
Leo?
"Jessie, are you okay?" I heard his concerned tone as he rushed over to me.
No response.
I flinched as everywhere became so bright. My eyes were still closed, but I slowly opened them to see the concerned look on Leo's face.
"Jessie?"
I inhaled. "I'm fine," I stated whilst he sighed. I glanced down at the unconscious figures before scanning the surroundings with my eyes, searching for the person that saved my life. My eyes furrowed. What the...what happened? I looked up at Leo with a perplexed look trying to figure out if he'd been the one to...
"What the fuck are you doing here? You could have gotten killed." He cussed?
Did he know this place? And he seemed damn worried.
I was dumbfounded. So when I didn't respond, he pulled me closer to his chest. His cologne wafted into my nostrils. "Let's get you somewhere safe." He lifted me, bridal style. But my suspicions were beginning to get the best of me. I never knew Leo was skilled in martial arts.*****
I really wanted to figure out how Leo and Jessie managed to get to where they were today because it seemed as though they had a complicated relationship. But I had another question. Had Leo been a mafia right from high school? And Seth…
