Chapter 106 Weird Men
KIA
After waiting for five minutes, the bus finally came to a stop directly in front of me, and as I had anticipated, Vera was one of the passengers who got off. Before she got off, I looked over and saw her give the driver a grateful thank you.
"Hi, Kia!" It was with a pleasant expression on her face that she welcomed me.
"Hi! I was wondering how your experience on the bus was. It never occurred to me that one could ride a bus "I said, jokingly.
"In point of fact, I didn't do that! But since I don't have a choice, I just asked the driver to let me off at the bus stop that's close to your house, and now I'm here. I have made it this far!"
Suddenly, we both broke out into fits of laughter. "Let's go?" I asked Vera. She acknowledged my statement by nodding her head, and we then began to walk in the direction of my home. I became aware of a peculiar sound coming from our rear just as we were about to pass through the entrance to the village. It sounds more like a whimper than anything else. When I turned around, we were confronted by two individuals who were wearing masks. They are just about to climb inside a white van.
"What in the world is wrong with them?" Vera spoke to us in a hushed tone, but it appeared as though she increased the volume of her hushed voice when both of the men suddenly turned their attention to us.
The terrifying expression that was on their faces caused my heart to race every time I caught a glimpse of it. I was so frightened that I suddenly reached out and grabbed Vera's hand, and then I started running as fast as I could go. Vera's blazing-fast running speed saved the day, though it's possible the adrenaline rush played a role as well. To our good fortune, the men with the strange appearances did not follow us.
Vera's question, which was tinged with apprehension, was, "Who was that?"
"I can't really comment on that. They have seen our faces; we ought to get back to the house as quickly as possible." After saying that, I continued running until we reached the front door of the house. "Currently, we are present. Let's go inside where it's nice and toasty."
I reached into my pocket and pulled out my key, but to my astonishment, I was unable to fit it into the keyhole of the door. My hand was trembling uncontrollably as a result of the amount of anxiety I was experiencing.
Vera said, "Allow me," as she reached for the key and opened the door before continuing. She then greeted me with a "Here" before handing me the key.
"T-thanks…"
I opened the door for her, and as soon as we were inside the house, I immediately locked the door behind us and shut all of the windows. I went into the kitchen and grabbed two bottles of water before heading back out. After that, I went back to the living room where I sat down with the bottle of water and continued to drink it.
"Water?" I asked Vera. After giving me an affirmative response in the form of a head nod, I handed it over to her and took a seat next to her.
"That was absolutely terrifying to say the least. I was afraid that they were going to keep up with us all the way until we arrived here..."
Vera mumbled, "I think they were kidnappers..." as she looked at the two individuals.
"How do you say so?"
"Kia, isn't that something that's been brought up before? They are concealing their identities by using a mask and driving a white van. Geez! That ought to be reported to the authorities!" She became hysterical and asked me where the telephone was when she was in the middle of it.
"Hey, take a deep breath and relax. First, you should probably drink that water, and then I'll call the security guard and report what just happened, okay?" I said to her as I helped her to sit down and pull herself up.
I moved closer to the table and picked up the telephone so that I could dial the number for the guard station. It was a considerable amount of time before they responded to it.
"Hello? Greetings, this is Mrs. Vuertalejo from the Vuertalejo residents, and I just wanted to report something that occurred earlier while we were standing close to the gate. During our stroll, we came across an unknown man wearing a mask and traveling in a white van. He was with a group of people. Simply put, we were concerned that those men would act maliciously toward us because they were aware of our identities and had previously kidnapped other individuals. Do we have surveillance cameras in the area just outside the village?"
Before continuing, he took a deep breath and cleared his throat "I'm sorry, Ma'am Kianna, but we do not have surveillance cameras in the surrounding area of the village. Even though we only have surveillance cameras at the entrance gate and throughout the village, what you have just said has raised some serious concerns. I will report it to the authorities as soon as possible so that they can begin their investigation."
"Thank you very much, and could you please watch over the village around the clock... I don't think I can trust myself anymore..."
"Madam Kianna, while we are reporting the incident to the police, we can call your husband and have him check on you," the officer replied.
"Don't! At the moment, he has a lot on his plate... Is there a guard who is permitted to roam the entire village while they are on duty? So that we can be absolutely certain that they haven't come into the village..."
"...Yes, your honor, Ma'am Kianna, that is something that we will most certainly carry out. Be at ease, because in addition to that, I will see to it that a security guard is appointed to watch over your house."
I finished my sentence with "thank you..." before hanging up the phone.
"What did they say?" - "What did they say?" Vera jumped in with an intervention.
I responded by saying, "They assured us that they would take all the necessary precautions to ensure our safety, so there is no reason for us to be concerned at this point."
Will they go to the authorities with this information?
"Absolutely, they will do that. In addition to that, they are going to put somebody in charge of watching the house."
"That's very useful information to have... Gosh! My mind kept going back to that look, and it sent shivers all the way down my spine!" Vera remarked as she gently scratched the back of her arm.
"Don't get stressed about it. Given that they have already begun to take measures in response to what has occurred, we can now have peace of mind that... Mhmm… What do you think about getting started on our project right away?" I asked.
"Right… As a result of what took place, I completely lost track of the project..." Vera muttered in a confused manner while rubbing the back of her head.
I got my laptop by going to the bedroom we share and getting it there. I entrusted Vera with it so that she could conduct some research on our topic while I worked on preparing some refreshments for us all. Running really saps my energy and I have to stop doing it!
I baked cookies and made an egg pie in addition to making fruit smoothies for everyone to drink. As soon as I had finished preparing, I went back to the living room, where I had been, and set the snacks out on the table. After some time had passed, we were finally able to recover our composure following the events that had transpired earlier. Two hours have passed, and we are getting very close to completing the task we set out to do. I was not anticipating how quickly it would be completed, but despite that, I will need to verify its accuracy at a later time.
A notification appeared on my phone while we were working on the research paper, and we had to stop what we were doing to attend to it. It originates from the god Ares. When I opened it, he told me that he was currently driving back to his house. He was given information by the security guard regarding the events that occurred earlier... I cautioned him not to speak with Ares, but he went ahead and did it anyway... I didn't have a choice but to text him back, but while I was doing so, I suddenly heard a car parked outside. I looked up from my phone. Is he here already or is he still on his way? That is moving at a pretty good clip.
The unexpected sound of someone knocking on the door startled both Vera and me. When I heard Ares' voice, I had already decided not to open it, but as soon as I heard it, I ran to the door and unlocked it.
"Hon!" I said as I threw myself at him and hugged him so tightly. I couldn't help myself.
You didn't tell me that you were seeing someone, did you? Ares mumbled something under his breath while looking at Vera.
