Chapter 41 Mr. Buenavista
The madam of the villa immediately avoided eye contact. “Humph! You still got the nerve to ask that. Your dad almost felt ill because of anger. It’s been a long time since I saw him so angry. Anyway, make sure to speak nicely when you see him later. And don’t even think about starting a quarrel with him.”
Mr. Buenavista changed everything in Ares’ life since his dad died of sickness. He is the best thing that ever happened to him. Without Mr. Buenavista, he would be going nowhere in his life. His life was starting to go down the drain before Mr. Buenavista came into their family. Mr. Buenavista has and always will be a role model in Ares’ life and a goal to strive for. Mr. Buenavista has done many things to help mold him into the man he is today.
“I got it, mom. I know what I am doing.” Ares said, trying to calm his mom.
They slowly opened the door and headed to the living room. A man holding a newspaper is comfortably seated on the sofa. Achilles-gold in color, his hair was perfectly coiffed. His face was in perfect proportion to his features, which had a striking clarity comparable to a mountain stream. He had an unusually androgynous appearance for most people, making him seem to have been cast from a strange mold. Sunshine covered him with lacquer and enamel. He exuded brilliance and vitality. His cheekbones resembled mountain peaks that had been carved into shape by an expert artisan. They had such distinct shapes that they appeared to have been meticulously molded and trimmed. All who came under his steady stare were bewitched by eyes as dazzling and alluring as lode stars. They sparkled like two eternity-blue pearls set in snow.
“Dad, I’m back,” Ares said, and stood in front of Mr. Buenavista.
Ares grabbed Mr. Buenavista’s attention. He stops reading the newspaper and looks at Ares furiously. “You little sh*t! It’s a surprise that you still know your home. I don’t think you take this family seriously!"
“Dad, I will explain—”
“Shut up!” Mr. Buenavista suddenly throws his newspaper at the table, making everyone surprised. “Do you still respect me?” Mr. Buenavista added.
Ares is out of words. He didn’t know how to talk to his stepfather while he was covered with anger.
“Honey…” Ares' mom immediately entered the scene and stopped them before they started a fight.
“You were acting on your own! You didn’t even get our permission. Why do you want to get married all of a sudden?! Do you see marriage as a game, son?!”
“Dad—”
“We know—we are informed that you want to act on your own now, but why don’t you bring her home?! When will I be able to meet and drink tea with my daughter-in-law?!” Mr. Buenavista asked with teary eyes.
“....Are you guys okay?” Ares was taken aback and confused by what had happened. As his parents began laughing at each other, he gave them a serious face.
“How is my acting just now, my love?” Mr. Buenavista asked his wife with pride on his face.
Madam Buenavista immediately approached him, acting like a fangirl, and said, “My love, you are such an actor. I wonder why didn’t you get a career in acting. I was a little scared when you tossed the newspaper down.”
“Humph, I know. I know. I prepared myself just to scare this brat! That is how I scared him back in the US.”
Ares facepalms and feels like he has been used. “Finally, I understand now where my acting skills come from. However, regardless of whether you guys get angry, I still cannot bring her here because she doesn’t know who I am yet.”
“What do you mean?”
“Son, what is going on?”
The young man took a deep breath and looked at his parents. “She is a person who hates having a relationship with rich and powerful families. She only wants to marry an ordinary person, so for me to be able to be with her, I have been hiding my identity. She knows nothing about my background. I admit that it is wrong for me to hide from you guys and get married secretly. But—I really like her and want to take care of her forever!”
“I can’t believe you are so serious about this, son. Then what are you going to do with Sofia? She’s been waiting for you for so long, and she accompanied you when you studied abroad.” Madam Buenavista asked worriedly.
“It’s all her wishful thinking! Although we were quite close when we were children, I only saw her as my younger sister, and I said no to her clearly, but my wife is different. She is my missing rib, no one can replace it.” Ares stated, and his voice was filled with love.
His parents started giggling and started teasing him. “Wow, did you hear that, my love? He can say such glib words now. It is getting more interesting!”
“Mom, Dad, I mean it!” Ares screamed, while his face was starting to turn red.
“Alright, alright, let's not argue with each other. It is not easy for our son to visit us here. I will cook, and let’s have a good meal later—”
“Mom, I can cook now! Let me help you!” Ares interjected, and immediately walked toward her mother.
“Wow, my son can cook now! How come a few months changed him so fast? Are you really our son? What nickname did we give you when you were still little?” His mom asked curiously while her eyes were narrowed.
“Seriously, mom?”
“What nickname did we give you when you were little? Answer me!”
“Okay—it’s puppy! You gave me that nickname because you said I looked like a cute puppy because of my haircut at that time,” Ares answered.
“This is a piece of huge news, my love! He has really changed,” Mr. Buenavista mumbled.
“Come on, let’s go make a meal, mom,” Ares said, pulling her mom towards the kitchen. “Mom, do you know that I can cook well now?” Ares added.
“Really? Then I am looking forward to tasting it!”
Madam Buenavista and Ares left Mr. Buenavista in the living room by himself. He smiled, seeing his son being the best version of himself. “Finally, my son changed a lot. It sounds like my new daughter-in-law is really something.” Mr. Buenavista whispered.
