Chapter 50 Yes Way!
KIA
"Finally here..."
I sighed when I saw the cafe shop in the distance. I tucked my phone back into my jacket pocket and sped up a bit toward it. I'm skipping my class today since I don’t have any energy to go there. I told Miaree and she said she will too and she is inviting me for a road trip but I declined. I said that I wanted a peaceful place, and she suggested this cafe. Since we still have a lot of things to discuss after what she said last night. I made my way to the cafe. When I arrived at the cafe, I held the door and waited a few seconds for an old lady to walk in before stepping inside. The heat from the store made me shiver.
"Thank you,” the old lady said.
I smiled and pulled my hood down. They sell the finest coffee from all over the world. Additionally, it features a book corner where we may purchase books on the left-hand side of the store. Additionally, they make excellent coffee. Students and workers can unwind here in the best possible environment. I entered the glass door and was immediately surrounded by warm air and the mouthwatering aroma of coffee. I was reminded of how busy this location is by the loud noise the patrons created.
I sit in the corner booth, alone, and stare at the intricate leaf design floating at the top of the latte. The smell of roasted coffee beans saturates the air. I trace the top of the cup with my finger, around in endless circles, a habit that I recently started. After about 10 minutes of getting a raspberry iced tea, a group of students entered the cafe. They were my old classmates in high school. I wasn’t expecting that they would remember and notice me, but I was surprised when they suddenly walked toward me.
“Kianna!” Natalia screamed.
“OMG! Sis! Long time no see!” Claire said.
I smiled at them, “Hey! Long time no see.”
“You're here by yourself?” Kyla asked.
“Yeah — But I’m waiting for someone,” I answered.
“Oh! Your husband? I heard you were married to Ares?” Claire curiously asked.
I was shocked to hear his name. I looked at her with confusion. “You know him?”
“Yeah, Claire, you know Kianna’s husband?” Natalia added.
“Not exactly, but when I saw a picture of you and your husband on social media, that is when I realized that it was Ares, the guy who used to be a victim of Troy and the boys. Don’t you guys remember that?”
“Oh… No, I don’t remember him.”
“He must be an outcast; that’s why we don’t remember him.”
“Yeah, he is. But he was kinda cute back then. That is why I was stunned to see him looking like that on Kianna’s Instagram. He looks so different! But, sis, I didn’t expect that you were going to marry him. I mean, he just disappeared when we were in high school. I thought he died.”
“What? When — When was that?”
“I don’t really remember much of it, but I am sure that it was when we were in high school,” Claire answered.
I was about to ask another question when suddenly there was a beeping sound outside.
“Oh, the boy’s here!” Natalia said, looking excited.
“Bye, Kianna! It’s so nice to see you again!”
“Bye, sis!”
They said before leaving. I want to stop them from going, but the driver of that car seems in a hurry. He was beeping the car several times, and it was distracting people from having their coffee here in the cafe.
There are a lot of questions roaming around in my mind right now. I didn’t know how to react to the information that I got. Why didn’t I remember him? I was so friendly with everyone in high school, but I can’t remember him. Does he also remember me too? If he remembered me, why didn’t he tell me about it? Why did he keep it a secret? My mind is going to explode now.
“Girl! Are you alright? I have been calling you since I arrived, but you look so occupied. Did something happen?” Miaree suddenly showed up in front of me.
“Yeah — Yeah I’m fine. It’s nothing. Have a seat.” I said, offering her the other chair.
Miaree ordered her favorite iced caramel macchiato. When her order arrived, that’s when she started asking about a lot of things. She looks so worried about me. I started to suspect her that she purposely skipped the morning class because of me.
"Gir! Hello? Are you there? I was asking you questions! Why aren't you answering?" She asked, narrowing her eyes.
"Sorry. I'm just thinking about a lot of things right now—"
"Like what? Oh, right, about the misunderstanding thing that happened to the both of you?" she interjected.
"Yeah. Ares and I had a fight last time when we got in trouble with those hooligans. He saw Nate taking me home, and he misunderstood a lot of things. That's when our fight started. I have been avoiding him for a while, but when I came home last night, he didn't go home. He said that he would be late, but he didn't tell me that he was going back to his parents' house. He hasn’t come back home since then."
"How did you know that he was going back to his parent's house?" Miaree asked.
"I called the company last night, and his colleague, Kyle, answered the telephone. He told me that."
"So you were saying that he left you behind?"
"I—I don't know. I'm not sure if he really left me. I mean, it's just a misunderstanding. He wouldn't do that to me."
Miaree rolled her eyes and took a sip of her coffee. "Are you sure about that? Didn't you see? He was avoiding you too; that is why he went back to his parent's house. That's the answer to your question about why he didn't tell you because he is avoiding you!"
…He is avoiding me?...
"Hey, don't think about it too much. You know what? You can stay at my house if you like."
I smiled and took a deep breath. I look at her and say, "Nah, I'm fine. I'll just wait for him at home. I'm sure he just needs time to think."
"Did you try calling him?"
"I did, but I couldn't reach him. He turned off his phone."
"Yeah, he is avoiding you, girl."
"Simple problem..." a voice said, coming from beside us.
The table beside us seats an older woman, blonde with heavy glasses that magnify her eyes like a dragonfly. She seems to like that her main personality trait is being skinny past forty. A child rocks in the chair across from her, scattering muffin crumbs in a happy shower all over the floor.
Miaree looks at the child, then immediately away. The kids scare her. It’s not that they’re not cute; they’re just unpredictable. There are a lot of things that scare her, quietly.
The blonde lady looks at us. She sees us watching her child make a mess and offers, "What can you do?" She leans in toward me as if we were classmates whispering dirty secrets.
“You should go to him if you truly love him. Find him if you must. You will never know if that day will be your last day of seeing him,” she says and winks before leaving with her child.
“That’s weird,” Miaree said while shivering.
I didn't mind it and just continued drinking my tea.
“Oh, yeah, before I totally forgot, let’s talk about Dave—”
I stopped her from talking and covered her mouth with my hand. “Wait! Are you one hundred percent sure that was him? I mean, don’t get me wrong, but you are aware that you have terrible eyesight, right? — Ouch!” I screamed in pain when she suddenly slapped my hand.
“Yes, I am one hundred percent sure that it was him! Remember, he even whispered something in my ear?” She said, defending herself.
“Oh, right… What did he say?” I asked curiously, but then she just suddenly turned red. She looks like a tomato right now.
“Well, he said that, if I am in danger again, all I need to do is to call his name!”
“Shut up! No way, that is too cheesy—blurgh!” I said while I was acting like I was about to throw up.
“Oh, yes way, bestie!”
And with that, she couldn’t stop telling me all the things that she was anticipating with that Dave guy. It was too cringey! I want to grab a headphone and wear it the whole time she was blubbering the name “Dave!”
After her storytelling about her plan for her future with Dave, we planned to have lunch in a restaurant nearby, but then Miaree got a call from his uncle saying that he was inviting Miaree for lunch. She wants me to have lunch with them, but I refuse.
"Are you sure you don't want to come?" Miaree asked, once again.
"Miaree, I'm fine. Go now." I said and pushed her to get into her car.
She drove away looking sad, and I waved my hand while looking at her. I decided to eat lunch at home. I'll just order some food online so that cooking won't be a hassle. While walking toward the bus stop. I can't stop thinking about what the lady said earlier. It's bothering me. That is why I took a taxi and went to the Vueravista Company.
…I made up my mind. I'm going to talk to him in person! There must be some misunderstanding between us!...
When I arrived in front of the Vueravista Company, I grabbed my phone and tried calling him again, but the number I had dialed could not be reached. His number is disconnected.
…I'll just go and find him at his office…
I walked toward the entrance, and I noticed that the guard was different from before. And the company looks different from before I visited here. There were a lot of people everywhere, and they looked so busy. It's different from the first time I came here, when there were no people roaming around. It's starting to get really weird.
I walked towards the counter, and the two ladies smiled at me, "Excuse me, I'm looking for someone."
