Chapter 60 Night At The Hotel
KIA
Our bodies had been worked to the bone as darkness fell. Our arms felt like they were paddling forever, and our legs felt like they were made of jelly. Our skin was completely burned, adding to the excruciating physical pain we were experiencing. Our bodies and faces both turned lobster-colored, and we also experienced excruciating anguish that words cannot convey. We came to the conclusion that it was time to stop and call it a day. However, after a little while, it began to heavily rain, making it difficult for Ares to drive.
As we go, it is chilly and gloomy outdoors. As we see the plains, thick, heavy drops of rain are falling from the full, dark clouds. With the flow of water on the side windows, the lights of the automobiles, streetlights, and other vehicles become blurry. However, our speed is insufficient to make the drops of water flow back along the windows. I don't discover the things of interest in front of me until we get on the highway and the water starts to move, bringing up memories of my early years together with the rain.
“Hon, is it okay if we just stayed at a hotel for this night?” Ares asked.
“Of course!” I said excitedly since I love staying at hotels. “How about you guys?” I asked the two behind us.
When I look at them, Miaree was already sleeping on Dave’s shoulder. I wonder if she was just acting or if she was really sleeping at the moment. Dave signed me to keep my voice down.
“Shhh… She was so tired and need to rest, staying at a hotel would be a great idea.” Dave answered.
We then reached the closest hotel in town. When we got to the hotel, a man who appeared to be a staff took care of the valet parking for us, and then we went to the desk to acquire a card key. The hotel's serene atmosphere was the first thing I noticed about it. The lobby appeared to be both busy and unhurried. The lobby had a recent cleaning-clean scent. The music played served as background noise for the most part, although I did hear one song that didn't quite fit the scene. I'm a Believer by Smash Mouth was the song. Even if it brought back childhood memories for me, the hotel's ambiance was not appropriate for it.
We certainly checked in and we followed the guide of one of the employees. “You can wait here…” the lady said as we waited for our room to get ready. They also gave us tea.
Our thoughts soon transitioned from frantic travel mode to spa mode as we sipped our rose tea. That is made easier by the scenery and the relaxing sounds coming from the water fountain in the foyer. One of the friendly staff members interrupted our thoughts. She dragged us back to reality while expressing her sincere regrets. She wanted to accustom us to the resort grounds after our room was ready. She led us to the room we had requested. A tiny waterfall and numerous flower pots welcomed us as we traveled there. I could see that the modern building we were in, where our room was located, was not far from us. She asked me to choose the scent I would like for the room's amenities as we sat on one of the couches, still keeping an eye out the window, giving the impression that this hotel is more like a spa than a place to stay.
Another staff knock on the door and said, “Sir, the other two rooms are ready.”
Dave stood up and helped Miaree to get up. I was about to help them when Ares suddenly pulled me closer to him. “Let him. Don’t worry, he will not do anything to Miaree,” he whispered.
“Bro, we will head to our room now. Good night, bro, and to you too, Kianna.” Dave remarked.
“Take her straight to her room, Dave,” Ares ordered.
“I will.”
When everything was prepared, we sluggishly explored our chamber, dragging our bodies as if we were disabled to get there. Our side table in the room was covered in bottles of green aloe vera gel. I gently and slowly unhooked every clasp on my swimming suit and undid every knot.
“Hon, I will take a shower first!” I shouted, then took a cold shower. The pain was unbearable as the water from the shower hit my skin as a million needles would. Though we were all dying in pain, we realized that it was all worth it.
After I was done taking a bath. Ares immediately entered the bathroom. I notice that there is some food on the table.
…Did he order it while I was taking a shower?...
I decided to watch TV while I was waiting for him to finish taking a bath. It's a good thing that their TV has a Netflix installed on it. I watched a movie and lay comfortably in bed. My movie marathon was interrupted by a buzzing sound. I grabbed my phone to check if it was ringing, but it wasn't.
I noticed Ares' phone on the table. It was ringing, "Assistant Sue?" I said as I read the name of the one who was calling Ares.
I suddenly remembered the reason that he said last time. The reason why he has stain of lipstick on his coat, it's because of his assistant.
…Is it Assistant Sue that he was referring to?...
The ringing stopped. I was about to go back to bed when it suddenly rang again. I have no choice but to answer it. I picked it up and said, "Hello? Who is this?"
No one answered. There was a total silence on the other line.
"Hello? Are you there?" I said it again, asking who it was.
"Hi! May I know who is answering the phone?" It's the voice of a girl. So Assistant Sue is a girl. Is she the one who put a stain of lipstick on Ares' coat?
"I'm his wife. Who is this?" I asked.
"Wife?!"
"Yes, is there a problem with that?"
"No — No! I'm sorry. I must have called the wrong number. I'm so sorry for wasting your time. Have a nice night!" she said as she suddenly dropped the call.
…What is wrong with her? How could that be a wrong number when she has a name on Ares' phone?...
I went back to bed and continued watching. Minutes had passed, and finally, Ares was done taking a shower. I looked at him with a suspicious look.
“Why?” he innocently asked.
“Someone called you and I answered it—”
“You answered it? What did it say?” he interjected.
“She said nothing. She just asked who I was, and I said I am your wife.”
“Really? Who was it?”
“Assistant Sue? — By the way, is she the one who put a stain on your coat last time?” I asked.
He looked at me like he was a kid and nodded. I narrowed my eyes as I looked at him seriously. “Then why didn’t they fire her? What are you waiting for — for her to kiss you?!”
