Chapter 66 Baguio Night Market
KIA
The ideal way to spend quality time with your family is to take a trip together. This gives everyone a chance to relax and forget their cares for a while. It is general knowledge that Baguio City is one of the most well-known locations in the Philippines. This is due to the fact that Baguio City is home to a number of stunning tourist attractions in addition to a temperate environment.
And in case you were unaware, you are now informed!
I encourage you to begin making preparations to visit the Philippines' summer capital in order to escape the frantic city life. It seemed as if I had already left the country to be with Ares in Baguio, which was a lovely experience. It felt like I had already left the country. This region of the Philippines is known for having weather that is significantly cooler than the rest of the Philippines. The morning fog, the low temperatures, and the crisp air all made for an enjoyable experience for me. In contrast to other countries, the people of the Philippines take pleasure in the allure of fog despite the fact that it is a relatively rare occurrence in the country.
This is going to be our very final day in Baguio. It would be an understatement to say that today was a full day. Our final visit was the Harrison Road night market, which is open from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. We left our vehicle parked along Session Road, and then we set out on foot in the direction of Harrison Road. We were both energized simply by the aromas of food being cooked, as well as by the flurry of activity caused by the excitement of the shoppers along the road.
The unexpected ringing of my phone jolted me out of my complacency. After pulling it out of my backpack and checking it, I noticed that Miaree's name was on it. I did not hesitate to take up the phone and answer it.
“Girl!” Miaree let out a shrill cry due to her enthusiasm.
Despite the fact that I did not put her on speaker, I am certain that Ares was able to hear it. "Take it easy! "What exactly is it?"
She questioned whether or not it was true that the two of you were currently in Baguio together with your husband. Even though she slowed down and reduced the volume of her voice, I could still detect the excitement that was coursing through her veins.
“Yeah—”
"Oh my God! Why on earth didn't you even bother to notify us?
"I will! When I come back to the house, I will simply explain everything to you. But in all honesty, this is the last day of our trip, and as a result, I will be leaving for home later.
“Really? You absolutely must make an effort to visit the night market in Baguio. In addition to being the Summer Capital of the Philippines, Baguio City also has the title of "Capital of the Ukay-Ukay" in the Philippines. Since you are already in Baguio, your best bet is to visit a secondhand shop there. At Baguio's Night Market, you can find a wide variety of branded shoes, designer bags, and all different kinds of signature clothing, among other things. They can be found along Harrison Road, and they are open from Monday through Sunday from nine in the evening until two in the morning.
"We are in fact present at this location at the moment. Where do you stand? Have you visited your uncle?"
"Oh yeah, I did. I just got home earlier."
While I was having a conversation with Miaree on the other line, I could see Ares standing just beside me in the periphery of my vision. “Uhm... I gotta go now. We have only just arrived, so I don't want us to take too much time shopping before we get started. I promise that I will detail everything that took place over the course of the last few days that we spent together. We'll see you in class! Bye, girl, I love you!" That's what I said before hanging up the phone.
Then we kept on walking. Since neither of us has ever participated in this activity before, neither of us was prepared for the show that awaited us when we arrived at Harrison Road. Along the entire length of Harrison Road, which is approximately 300 meters, there were hundreds of vendors selling a wide variety of goods. These included food, clothing, shoes, bedding, souvenirs, mobile phones and their accessories, and a great deal of other items.
It's kind of strange to think that we were driving along this road just this morning, and that now there's hardly any sign of the road at all. The entire passageway went through some kind of makeover. Even Ares was taken aback because he was aware of where we had parked, and he continued to scan the area for vehicles that might be on the road. He was disoriented because where there had been a road before, there were now only shops and restaurants.
Although the market featured a wide variety of interesting goods, the section devoted to food was the one that particularly attracted my attention. It was not hard to figure out where the food department was located. In that location, not only can you see it, but you can also smell it. Along that single lengthy stretch, there are two places to get food; one of them can be found at the very end on Session Road, and the other can be found at the very end on the opposite side.
"Hi, handsome! Ares was asked by the woman if he was interested in trying out their bulalo noodle soup.
Ares didn't even bother to look, and it appears that he was unaware that the lay was talking to him the whole time. I gave him a friendly pat on the shoulder and then pointed to the food stall that was located behind us.
"Can you tell me what those toppings are, miss?" While I was looking at the bowl of bulalo noodle soup, I asked the question.
Wanton, siomai, meat, and noodles are included in our one cup serving of bulalo noodle soup, along with eggs. A hefty bowl of bulalo noodle soup can be purchased for anywhere between Php 25 and Php 60, with the starting price being Php 25 "she gave the response.
"Is that pork belly?" Ares spoke up to intervene.
"Yes, handsome! That can be yours for only Php 40. Additionally, for only Php 60, you can get mixed chicken and beef shawarma rice that is topped with cheese and an egg cooked with the sunny side up. In addition to that, we offer a chicken kebab that is stuffed with various spices. It is only Php 50 per stick!”
“Okay two for all the food you just said.” Ares said and grabbed his wallet on his pocket.
“Noted, handsome!” the lady said before starting to prepare all the food that they were selling. Did he ordered everything just because the lady called him handsome? I wonder…
There is a chair and a table beside their store, so we decided to sit there while waiting for our food to be served. It only took fifteen minutes to prepare everything. After she served all the food on the table, she then grabbed her calculator and started calculating everything.
“All of our orders cost Php 420. Here is Php 500, keep the change.” he said while handing over the cash.
The lady looks at him. Maybe she is wondering how Ares calculated everything. But she still continued using her calculator, and Ares was right; the total was 420. “Thank you so much, handsome! Enjoy your food!” the lady said when she received the Php 500.
Overall, eating in her store is worth the trip. Both tourists and residents enjoy the variety of meal options offered by the well-organized vendors. You will be astounded by how inexpensive everything is if you reside in Metro Manila. Nothing like this has ever happened to me in the Philippines! I'm delighted we finally went on this eating excursion at the night market in Baguio.
We also noticed a significant police presence when we entered the area from Session Road, and I told Ares that I found it to be comforting. I was a little frightened by what he said after that.
“In a location like this, it is to be expected that they would need to be on guard given the recent Davao bombs,” Ares said.
Consequently, the fear was brought to the forefront. I had to ignore it, though, in order to fully appreciate the experience. I was wary, just to be on the safe side. We could have gone walking and shopping all night until they closed, but Ares was becoming tired and sleepy. Everything makes sense. As a result, we left at around twelve in the morning and returned to the hotel, exhausted but ecstatic about our extremely exciting and active day and night.
