Chapter 95 Hallucination
Kia
We spent about a couple of minutes hugging each other, and when I felt like I was satisfied already, I was the one who stopped. I looked at him and smiled.
"Hey, guess what day it is today?"
He narrowed his eyes and looked at me, wondering what I was saying. "Today? Today is Sunday, hon," he said.
"Seriously? You don't remember what it is today?" I said, pouting my lips.
He scratched his head. "Oh, right! Oh, I am so sorry, hon." he said and hugged me. Finally, he remembered. I know he will never forget our special day— "I am sorry I forgot your birthday…"
I pushed him and crossed my arms. What the f*ck?! Birthday?! He didn't even know the day of my birthday? I had enough!
"What did you just say?"
"I am saying sorry? I know, I know, it is my fault that I forgot about it. I am just busy with work and stuff, but I will make it up with you, okay?" he said and tried to hug me again but I pushed him away.
"It's not my birthday today!" I said, and walked out, heading to the bedroom to lock the door.
A second later, I heard several knocks on the door. "Hon? Hey, open the door. — Hon? Are you okay? I am just joking, okay? Of course, I remember. Why would I even forget that special day? Okay, wait for me." He said and left.
I don't know where he went, but I didn't open the door for him. I threw myself on the bed. I can't stop being furious about what he did. How could he forget two of the special days in my life?!
"Hon?" he called to me, knocking on the door. "Can you please open the door for me? I got something in my hand and I can't reach the door handle," he added.
"I don't care!"
"Are you sure? But I prepared it for this special day, our anniversary," he said, emphasizing the anniversary.
Does that mean that he didn't really forget? He was just teasing me earlier! Argh! What a jerk!
I stood up and slowly walked towards the door to open it. When I opened the door, a huge bouquet of tulips welcomed my face. I couldn’t even see Ares because of how huge it is.
“What— What is this?” I asked, stuttering. I can’t believe that he bought something like this for me.
“A bouquet of tulips for a very special woman in my life...” he answered.
How sweet... I tried to grab it, but it was too heavy for me to carry, so Ares placed it on the sofa.
“How did you know that tulips are my favorite flower?” I wondered without even looking away from the flowers. I am too mesmerized to get it out of my sight.
“I just... I just know!”
“I have never experienced something like this before…” I whispered, but I didn’t expect that he would be able to hear it.
“A very special girl deserves a very special treat…” he said and slowly approached me. “That is why I will cook for tonight. I want our food to be as special as yours. Do you know that I was watching cooking shows while I was at work just for this night?”
“But— But I was planning to cook…”
“You did? Hmm, how about we help each other in the kitchen? I will cook another dish, then you will cook yours.” Ares suggested.
“Hmm… I was planning to cook a carbonara…”
“Great! I will cook chicken cordon bleu!”
We then went to the kitchen and prepared everything that we needed, but while I was picking my ingredients. I just realized that I forgot something... I don’t have all purpose cream! I went to the market earlier, but I still wasn’t able to buy one. I am so dumb!
“Hon… I forgot to buy all purpose cream.” I said, looking at Ares, who was starting to cut the chicken.
“You forgot? — Wait, I will buy it for you—”
“No! Just continue with what you were doing. I will buy it myself. Besides, the convenience store isn’t that far from here.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah, I got this.”
I left the house, carrying my phone and my wallet, and went to the nearest convenience store. It was outside our village. Since I am walking alone and there are only a few people walking nearby, I decided to play some music on my phone, but I lowered the volume so that I would just be the one who was able to hear it.
When I arrived at the convenience store, I immediately went to the counter and asked for an all purpose cream.
“Just one, ma’am?” she asked.
“Hmm… Make it two.”
“Do you have a suki card, ma’am?”
“No, I don’t.”
She then punched it and placed it in a bag. After paying for it, I immediately left and headed home. While I was walking, I couldn’t stop looking behind my back. It feels like someone is following me, but every time I look back, there is nothing there. No one is even walking beside me. It was just a cold wind that passed by.
But why am I feeling this weird feeling?
I just grabbed my phone and turned on the music player and sang along while I was walking.
“Baby, take my hand. I want you to be my husband. 'Cause, you're my Iron Man. And I love you 3000~” I sang while I was walking to ease my thoughts from the weird feeling I felt right now.
But then when I entered the village, I noticed that the guard wasn’t there. Where is he? He should be guarding the village against outsiders, especially at night. Thinking that the guard isn’t present tonight. I feel a shiver down my spine. I should head home right away.
I then heard footsteps behind me as I was moving. I was very afraid, but just to be sure, I took a small glance behind me and noticed a man strolling behind me with his head bowed. He was wearing a black hoodie. To check if he was still following, I went to a different street, but there he was. He kept pace with me as I walked down each street, stopping when I did and turning at each corner. In the dimly lighted street, the dark figure of a thin man drew my attention. He stood in front of me beneath the streetlight without the slightest hint of fear.
As the fog rolled in and the cold wind whispered, I decided to hurry home. What was normally an eight-minute walk home seemed like an hour. A moment after, I heard it again… The voice that creeps out my whole system.
“Kianna…”
The deep voice was making my body feel so cold, so I told myself not to be terrified and to get out of here as soon as I could. I glance quickly and catch a glimpse of the shadow of a figure. It looks like a tall figure, and it seems like that figure is wearing a jacket with a hood. The road became silent as I quickly came to a halt so I could listen.
It was impossible for me to be certain of what I had seen after those brief glimpses since the person vanished. I waited for at least five to ten minutes before continuing so that I could be sure I could notice anything if anything happened to resurface. Nothing did, though. I thought of all the possibilities, even the person I could have sworn to be, and even they posed a mystery to me. I had to be absolutely positive, I had to rule out any other alternatives.
I came to the conclusion that it could have possibly been a fabrication of my imagination, a sort of hallucination caused by my mind playing games on me. Being alone out there was nearly too much for me to handle as I am still in therapy. I started to quicken my step as I got closer to my house, but the man behind me took bigger, faster steps. The night grew chilly, the wind began to gust, and my panic began to take hold. The intermittent flicker of the street lights and the sound of wind chimes in the adjacent houses gave it a ghostly appearance. It appeared that the entire neighborhood was aware of this supernatural-appearing night.
“Hon? Are you there? What took you so long?” Ares's voice echoed through the house.
I immediately headed to the kitchen, and the look on his face worried me. “Hey, are you alright?” he asked.
I nodded and reasoned something out just to hide what happened. I don’t want him to know that I am starting to get crazy over things…
