#310 - Chapter 310 The Escaped Mouse
“Azkaban has arrived. Adam, take Peter's mother inside, and remember to stay close to her to avoid any problems. I'll go to the execution grounds to find the captain and the others first.”
“Keep an eye on the time. The reporters will be here soon. Today is a live execution, so don't let anything go wrong.”
The Auror named Adam nodded and led Peter's mother towards the prison cell.
Peter's mother gripped her cane tightly, following behind him with a calm expression, showing no signs of distress.
She breathed a heavy sigh of relief in her heart.
Everything she needed to bring was brought in. The Felix Felicis's effect is indeed powerful. Every time they were about to check for prohibited items, her words would divert their attention.
Half of the escape plan has already succeeded; now it depends on the remaining performance.
Peter's mother looked at the figure leading the way, wondering if she should take advantage of the present moment and use the spare wand hidden in her cane to give him a nasty surprise.
However, the feeling from the Felix Felicis told her that the other party was still maintaining a certain level of vigilance, and now was not a good time to strike.
Even in June, Azkaban still exuded a chilling and gloomy atmosphere. Heavy clouds almost perpetually obscured the sky, making it rare to see even a sliver of sunlight.
The air was filled with a damp, cold moisture, as if invisible fingers were brushing against the skin, causing one to shiver involuntarily. This cold atmosphere seemed to constantly remind those who came here that this was never a comfortable place.
With many prisoners away from their cells for daily work, the entire prison seemed eerily quiet.
Moisture occasionally dripped from the damp stone walls, echoing in the silent corridor, creating a dull reverberation.
From the depths of the prison occasionally came the ear-piercing howls of some heavily sentenced prisoners, the sound seeming to come from the depths of hell, carrying despair and madness.
Peter's mother was no longer surprised by this scene, but she felt pangs of heartache thinking about her child being locked up here for nearly a month.
“Once it hits eight o'clock, I have to take Peter to another location.”
Adam opened the door to Peter Pettigrew's cell and then instructed Peter's mother.
“Say what you need to say properly, eat the food while it's hot, and cherish these thirty minutes.”
Having accepted her Galleons, Adam's attitude was relatively mild. He glanced with pity at the mother and son in the cell, then stood guarding the cell door, holding his wand.
This was a special cell designed to prevent prisoners from performing Animagus transformations, making it perfectly suited for detaining Peter Pettigrew.
Upon seeing Peter Pettigrew huddled in the corner of the cell, Peter's mother could no longer restrain herself and hugged him, sobbing softly.
Peter Pettigrew was also in tears, continuously patting his mother's back, trying to soothe her sorrowful emotions.
“Peter, listen to me,” Peter's mother whispered in Peter's ear in a voice that only the two of them could hear, “I plan to take you away from this place.”
Escape from this place?
How could that be done?
Peter Pettigrew was anxious, but he dared not reveal any weakness, lest the Auror at the cell door discover the problem.
“Peter, listen carefully. There is a top-grade protective badge at the bottom of the lunch box I brought you, capable of resisting most attacking spells for a certain period.”
“Later, when you're eating, secretly put the badge in your mouth, so your safety will be guaranteed.”
“Also, I have a false tooth in my mouth, which is a portkey for timed teleportation, with the activation time being eight o'clock. As long as we stall until that time, we can teleport away safely.”
As she spoke, Peter's mother took advantage of the opportunity while her back was turned to the Auror, pried the false tooth out of her mouth, and secretly slipped it into Peter's hand.
Seeing the false tooth tightly clutched by Peter Pettigrew, Peter's mother finally relaxed a lot.
She straightened up and, in front of the Auror, picked up the lunch box placed beside her and handed it to Peter.
“Eat, child. This is what Mom specially made for you; they're all your favorite things from when you were little.”
Having no utensils, Peter Pettigrew directly grabbed the food in the box with his hands and ate it in large mouthfuls.
Soon, he discovered the defensive badge at the bottom of the lunch box and, taking advantage of the lunch box's cover, stuffed the badge and the food into his mouth.
Peter's mother sat beside him, constantly pulling him to talk about things from his childhood.
Adam did not notice the small actions between the mother and son, but was instead filled with sighs at the affection between the two.
Thirty minutes passed in a flash. Adam hardened his heart and interrupted the conversation between the mother and son.
“Alright, Madam, it's almost time. We have to go.”
“Sir, it's still five minutes until eight o'clock. Please, be kind and let me spend more time with my child,” Peter's mother sobbed incessantly.
Adam shook his head: “Don't make it difficult for me, Madam. I must take you away from here now. Five minutes is only enough time for me to make a round trip.”
Peter's mother wailed loudly, stood up shakily, and came to the outside of the cell door with her cane.
Seeing Peter's mother so cooperative, Adam slightly relaxed his vigilance. He turned around, just preparing to lock Peter's cell door, when he heard a fierce voice from behind him.
“Stupefy!”
Crack—
A protective device on Adam's body shattered, blocking this powerful spell.
The sudden change stunned Adam.
What's going on? She still had a hidden wand?
Damn it, I was only focused on collecting the money just now and didn't check carefully.
Enraged, Adam suddenly turned around, raised his wand to retaliate, but before he could cast a spell, he was grabbed tightly from behind.
Peter Pettigrew used all his strength to prevent the other party from breaking free for a moment.
“Mom, now's the chance!”
Peter's mother dared not delay and kept casting spells at Adam. With her calculated attack against his unpreparedness, Adam's protective devices quickly ran out, and he was hit by the spells and fainted directly.
“Damn it, there's less than five minutes left. Why won't you even give us this little bit of time.”
Peter's mother spat fiercely and then pulled Peter Pettigrew back into the cell to hide.
First, she filled the corridor with smoke using the Smokescreen Charm, then gripped her wand tightly, staring intently in the direction they had come from.
When she heard the sound of messy footsteps, Peter's mother didn't hesitate and cast a blasting curse forward.
“Bombarda!”
Accompanied by miserable screams and ear-piercing roars, a section of the distant cell collapsed.
Success!
Just as Peter's mother breathed a sigh of relief, she saw a blinding spell fly out of the smoke, hitting her directly.
The attack, filled with anger, caused Peter's mother immense suffering.
Ah, ah, ah, ah—
The intense pain caused her to scream shrilly. Deep wounds were blasted open on her chest, and blood flowed continuously, instantly staining the clothes on her chest red.
Due to the severity of her injuries, she could no longer stand and could only lie weakly in Peter's arms.
Peter Pettigrew went mad, freeing one hand to pick up his mother's cane and continuously released blasting curses towards the door.
For a time, the roaring sound continued non-stop, and the violent explosions forcibly held back the Aurors' footsteps.
Time slowly came to eight o'clock, the portkey activated, and Peter and his mother instantly disappeared from the cell.
